I think it's more just the typical cycle of sensationalism and lowest common denominator thinking especially with what's tantamount to a crowdsourced story. Like Friday the 13th movies start outrelatively lowkey. Nothing Supernatural and a simple story. Then every movie escalates, they bring back Jason, they make him immortal, dumb lore and settings, etc. All because execs wanted to push the envelope to get more attention and one up the last movie. This is the same thing. The first shitpost is mostly built on atmosphere, it still had a monster though. Then they had to escalate and emulate success of things that are already popular.
There was an entry that was a teenage girl who couldn't wear clothes or it would burn her skin and when men were around her too long they'd become psychotic and try to rape her but would die upon touching her. She would cope by becoming a stringent Catholic to what her abilities allowed. She was also the kid of an anomolous doctor who you couldn't photograph or his head would look like some kind of animal, he was uneffected by her always hanging around the foundation in case anything happened to her. The wiki changed the article to her being some deergirl and her main effect on people got replaced. Its just a weaker story now.
