It's trash in the original, but it's one of the best weapons in the remake. Practically stunlocks necromorphs, cover a wide area, and kills them really fast.
Because the game is easy as frick no matter what you use, so using a hilarious yet satisfying meme weapon to looney-tunes slaughter the big bad aliens in the most memeworthy ways possible is satisfying.
While the blade is spinning necros cannot get to you and it stunlocks them. You can keep 3 or even more necros constantly in a stunlock. Even on higher difficulties it kills entire groups with 1-2 "bullets".

Seeker Rifle was so fricking busted bro. Almost the damage of a contact beam at triple the fire rate and triple the ammo drops. If not for the swarmers you could finish the entire game with just it easily. It was the Plasma Cutter of DS2 on crack.
Ripper and Line Gun, I feel like Plasma Cutter was nerfed in the remake, the shoots were tiny as frick.
The ripper kinda sucks because you get flanked easily with it, but going all Evil Dead makes it worth it

Force gun, ripper, plasma cutter, and pulse rifle because there was an empty slot. I used to love using the pulse rifle. Big magazine, high rate of fire, accurate with controlled bursts with panic button CC. Now it’s just…kinda crap. It really relied on the hitstun that necros suffered when being pummeled by repeated shots.

I was using the pulse and contact beam the whole game.
Like DS2 you only get ammo for what you have minus some mandatory stand alone pick ups. So I had tons of ammo for both on hard, the weird thing is, contact beam ammo is easier to drop than pulse ammo.
I wanted to use the plasma cutter a bit, but if you have it in your inventory you only get plasma cutter ammo. It's not a good weapon on hard mode, you can stun and KO enemies with the melee upgrade, but you will never have any other ammo of any other type so you shouldn't carry it.
I pick up the force gun when I get it, but it's only useful for stun in early game. It ramps up insanely for endgame and basically throws the upgrades at you once you get the master unlock rig, but it can't be used on the last boss proper.
You're basically stuck with the contact beam for instant killing bosses, pulse grenades for trash, and the force gun when you finally get it, for everything else.
Honestly, might be better off only running two guns, like in DS2.
Plasma is still OP although noticeably less so. Ripper is goat, and flamethrower is fun. I want to like the Line Gun but my aim sucks and I usually hit myself with the alt fire.

Everything is fine and as good as DS2 or better, enemy sounds aren't so good.
I would say it's smarter to pirate it eventually, so you're not biased playing it but it's genuinely pretty good.

I did just playthrough DS1 and DS2. I couldn't get through the original DS1 because it just kept giving me problems but I got halfway in.
I think you'll like it, and I'd lend you my copy if I could, I wouldn't say to pay full price tbh, it was 15$ on origin for a bit, if it goes that low it's worth it, more so for a pirate. I got 30 hours and climbing in it, going for impossible soon, so it's enjoyable. I despise the woke bullshit in it, it's so clownish and out of place but mostly everything else is on point.
There are a lot of things you will hate though coming from DS2 in relation to limbs, kenesis, and enemy vocals. Also it currently runs like shit so a pirate circumvents that.

It's pretty clear that EA saw Capcom's recent success with Resident Evil and wants to replicate that with their own survival horror game, hence DS's revival.
You won't know this. But in games now, VA's and woke elements in game dev are demanding that the game characters physically reflect the voice actor who is playing them. I'm not joking. I had a huge argument with a producer because the character we had in mind was white but the VA is asian. She said we have to change the character to be asian otherwise it's a form of racism. This was someone who'd never said anything woke before now and I was absolutely gobsmacked. When I went to the publishers above her they confirmed that this was basically just how things were done now mainly from VA's demanding it. There was some bullshit about having the same face as the VA would make the facial motion capture better but I know that's bullshit after speaking to some of the animation guys. Just fricking weird.

Just finished a playthrough of 1 and 2 in the last 5 or 6 days. Haven't played them since 2016-2017. Great games, although I remember 2 being longer. I blew through it in just under 7 hours on the 2nd hardest difficult mode, Zealot. Dead Space was about as long as I remember it being, it seems to have stuck in my mind far more than DS2. I remembered mostly set pieces from 2, but a lot of 1 the little stuff in 1. Really, really good games. Glad I redownloaded them. They really held up well. I guess I'll snag the demake when a good repack comes out, I aint payin fo dat shiet. Time for 3.

Somehow the information about the marker being on Aegis VII leaked and the Unitologists in the CEC decided to throw a bunch of themselves as the top brass on the ship and stack the deck. They did not know the Marker was man made, they probably wouldn't believe it if they were told by EarthGov anyway. The Ishimura was an illegal mining vessel carrying out an illegal planet cracking on a government cordoned zone, that's why the USM Valor got sent to intercept them as soon as EarthGov found out, to either forcefully escort them out of the system (less likely) or blow them apart and say it was a catastrophic failure of some kind (most likely).

Yes. Necromorphs gather around the Marker, starting a Convergence Event. If they don't have enough mass, they turn into a Hivemind, which can then later turn into a Brother Moon. If they have enough mass, they just go straight to Moon status, that's what was happening at the end of DS2.

Gunner's Isaac is unironically the best part of the remake, I reminded me of how much I was pleasantly surprised by his DS2 performance. I was initially skeptical of Isaac being voiced back then as well.

He was, when Deadspace 2 came out, Gunnar and the guy who went on to make Callisto had an interview about DS2, and one of the things they did was talk about why they made Isaac talk. Basically they said him being a silent protagonist didn't work out like they wanted as an immersive thing, so they took that criticism and hired Gunnar to voice him.
Then, because Isaac's face was a place holder, they composited his face on to Isaac proper with I think the original actor for Isaac, and came up with his new design.
It was 100% intentional, and I do not know why they decided to make him look like a chubby Adam Sandler.

I've got a real problem with the game and wonder if anyone else has experienced and fixed it. When I first got the game it wouldn't start up, small black window in the upper left of the screen, and then it would close down again. Downloaded a new driver and then the game worked, but one of my peripherals got borked. Reinstalled the geforce drivers, peripheral started back up but now the game is borked again with the same startup problem as before.
Anyone have any clue what could be going wrong?
Things I've tried so far: Verifying files, clearing steam DL cache, running as admin, switching the game files to an SSD, reinstalling the same driver again, completely uninstalling and reinstalling the game. I'm pretty much out of ideas at this point. I have the feeling that the next driver update will probably fix it but I don't want to sit around waiting for an arbitrary date just to play the game again.

There's some really cool areas in mining and medical with orange lighting which makes me think they cut it from the opening and wienerpit so those would look distinct.....but it looks worse on my rig because of frost enginge and denuvo, I have to run it on fricking medium settings to get it to work.
Also get this, the adaptive resolution bullshit option? If you don't set it to automatic it will always look worse and make your machine chug! Even performance or ultra performance run worse than auto for some reason, they also look worse!

Not really, it's great but it's not quite 10/10. There's some neat atmospheric tricks they use that's better than the og trilogy, some better gameplay but also some worse, story is a lot better but suffers from wokeism in areas, I'd say it's an 8, maybe 8.5 but I'm also still riding the high of new game, so we'll see after another playthrough.

My biggest annoyance with the game was the fact they didn't add cut necromorph's or some of the areas from extraction.

It's fun to use. Well, it WAS fun to use, until the remake gutted it with piss poor animations and sound effects.
While the blade is spinning necros cannot get to you and it stunlocks them. You can keep 3 or even more necros constantly in a stunlock. Even on higher difficulties it kills entire groups with 1-2 "bullets".

Seeker Rifle was so fricking busted bro. Almost the damage of a contact beam at triple the fire rate and triple the ammo drops. If not for the swarmers you could finish the entire game with just it easily. It was the Plasma Cutter of DS2 on crack.

The ripper kinda sucks because you get flanked easily with it, but going all Evil Dead makes it worth it

Big magazine, high rate of fire, accurate with controlled bursts with panic button CC. Now it’s just…kinda crap. It really relied on the hitstun that necros suffered when being pummeled by repeated shots.

I was using the pulse and contact beam the whole game.
Like DS2 you only get ammo for what you have minus some mandatory stand alone pick ups. So I had tons of ammo for both on hard, the weird thing is, contact beam ammo is easier to drop than pulse ammo.
I wanted to use the plasma cutter a bit, but if you have it in your inventory you only get plasma cutter ammo. It's not a good weapon on hard mode, you can stun and KO enemies with the melee upgrade, but you will never have any other ammo of any other type so you shouldn't carry it.
I pick up the force gun when I get it, but it's only useful for stun in early game. It ramps up insanely for endgame and basically throws the upgrades at you once you get the master unlock rig, but it can't be used on the last boss proper.
You're basically stuck with the contact beam for instant killing bosses, pulse grenades for trash, and the force gun when you finally get it, for everything else.
Honestly, might be better off only running two guns, like in DS2.

ripper is a very solid crowd control tool, and satisfying to use, but I did kind of regret allocating points to it about midway through the game.
Plasma is still OP although noticeably less so. Ripper is goat, and flamethrower is fun. I want to like the Line Gun but my aim sucks and I usually hit myself with the alt fire.

Everything is fine and as good as DS2 or better, enemy sounds aren't so good.

I did just playthrough DS1 and DS2. I couldn't get through the original DS1 because it just kept giving me problems but I got halfway in.
I think you'll like it, and I'd lend you my copy if I could, I wouldn't say to pay full price tbh, it was 15$ on origin for a bit, if it goes that low it's worth it, more so for a pirate. I had a huge argument with a producer because the character we had in mind was white but the VA is asian. She said we have to change the character to be asian otherwise it's a form of racism. This was someone who'd never said anything woke before now and I was absolutely gobsmacked. When I went to the publishers above her they confirmed that this was basically just how things were done now mainly from VA's demanding it. Just finished a playthrough of 1 and 2 in the last 5 or 6 days. Haven't played them since 2016-2017. Great games, although I remember 2 being longer. I blew through it in just under 7 hours on the 2nd hardest difficult mode, Zealot. Dead Space was about as long as I remember it being, it seems to have stuck in my mind far more than DS2. I remembered mostly set pieces from 2, but a lot of 1 the little stuff in 1. Really, really good games. Glad I redownloaded them. They really held up well. I guess I'll snag the demake when a good repack comes out, I aint payin fo dat shiet. Time for 3.

He was, when Deadspace 2 came out, Gunnar and the guy who went on to make Callisto had an interview about DS2, and one of the things they did was talk about why they made Isaac talk. Basically they said him being a silent protagonist didn't work out like they wanted as an immersive thing, so they took that criticism and hired Gunnar to voice him.
Then, because Isaac's face was a place holder, they composited his face on to Isaac proper with I think the original actor for Isaac, and came up with his new design.
It was 100% intentional, and I do not know why they decided to make him look like a chubby Adam Sandler.

I've got a real problem with the game and wonder if anyone else has experienced and fixed it. When I first got the game it wouldn't start up, small black window in the upper left of the screen, and then it would close down again. Downloaded a new driver and then the game worked, but one of my peripherals got borked. Reinstalled the geforce drivers, peripheral started back up but now the game is borked again with the same startup problem as before.
Anyone have any clue what could be going wrong?
Things I've tried so far: Verifying files, clearing steam DL cache, running as admin, switching the game files to an SSD, reinstalling the same driver again, completely uninstalling and reinstalling the game. I'm pretty much out of ideas at this point. I have the feeling that the next driver update will probably fix it but I don't want to sit around waiting for an arbitrary date just to play the game again.

Replayed Dead Space recently and I feel like the kinesis was a lot weaker than I remember, it was hard to actually use any necro blades to do damage.
Because Classic Kinesis was meant primarily for physics puzzles. DS2 introduced the idea of using kinesis for combat.

There's some really cool areas in mining and medical with orange lighting which makes me think they cut it from the opening and wienerpit so those would look distinct.....but it looks worse on my rig because of frost enginge and denuvo, I have to run it on fricking medium settings to get it to work.
Also get this, the adaptive resolution bullshit option? If you don't set it to automatic it will always look worse and make your machine chug! Even performance or ultra performance run worse than auto for some reason, they also look worse!

Not really, it's great but it's not quite 10/10. There's some neat atmospheric tricks they use that's better than the og trilogy, some better gameplay but also some worse, story is a lot better but suffers from wokeism in areas, I'd say it's an 8, maybe 8.5 but I'm also still riding the high of new game, so we'll see after another playthrough.
