Why all the praise?

I see a lot of praise for this game i thought it was so overrated.

It's a movie-game with a Tarantino aesthetic. Western fans sucked it's wiener because western games are few and far between, while movie buffs sucked it's wiener because muh cutscenes.

Mostly movienigs with bad taste. Like most moviegames, as a movie, RDR2 would not stand out as cinema or even among westerns.

It's the best "movie game" ever made. The writing and performances still not everything else to date. I get that people may not like the slow pace and clunky controls, but it is the absolute pinnacle of what it's trying to accomplish.

      >It's the best "movie game" ever made
How so? the directing, cutscenes and performances are nothing special.

You probably think that because the high budget/graphics tricked you

I guess I just have different taste. I can't think of any other game where I was so invested in the cinematics and story. Death Stranding comes close but it's a very different experience

You're fricking braindead if you don't get the hype for RDR2.

No other game will give you the feelings this game gives you, no other game has a fricking 10/10 track play on each and every shootout perfectly timed and paced and thematically perfected.
It gets hard to shoot people the music is making my eyes water so fricking hard.

    - You're my Brother
    10/10

    - American Venom
    10/10

    - The Disaster
    10/10

    - Valentine Robbery
10/10 they made a flute sound badass how is that even possible

frick cowboys, if you like music AT ALL then you need to play this game to experience the absolute masterpiece OST Rockstar has crafted.
They really nailed that momentum you get when music lands right on a shootout or dramatic moment and even though there are parts that really fricking suck in this game I can't stop replaying Story missions and feeling that rush in every gunfight. All of this plus super well written characters gives you the most immersive and exhilarating game ever made.

I've played enough games with annoyingly slow controls, dogshit cover shooting, and endless checklists of trash. It isn't that special, anon.

For a movie game with millions of budget Rockstar didn't show any directing excellence in their game, i dont remember a single S tier cutscene from the game, its all just average standard cinematic games stuff, nothing above the levels of Uncharted, TLOU, Witcher, God of War or Death Stranding.

I enjoy shitting on Kojima, but he at least has an idea for cinematography and shot composition during cutscenes to make an interesting or uniquely stylistic image. Similarly, I'd say DMC3 is one of the very few games I've ever seen where the cutscenes alone are a pretty entertaining movie, again down to inspired cinematography and shot composition. I can't remember one moment from GTA IV to RDR2 that stands out in my mind for its cinematic qualities.

Explain how did you come to that conclusion.

Whats so good about RDR2 exploration anyway?

1- There is nothing valueable to find, you get too much money early and everything you can buy in every town is the same and they all cost so little, by the mid game i ended up with tons of money and nothing to spend it on.
2- The random encounters which are made to be believable are scripted and repeated throughout all the map, i cured the man of the snake poison hundred times, i freed a prisoner hunder times.
3-There are no caves, dungeons and camps to actually complete, instead its just few handcrafted side quests with some spots for fishing and hunting

As for the story, its not that good actually, the characters are stupid and behave unrealistically, and the epilogue is shit, the pacing drags so much especially from chapter 5 and 6, the only good characters are arthur and dutch.

            Anonymous

the simple act of discovery is enjoyable simply because it isn't checklisted. You can find a cool thing that was put there just to be a cool thing, not one of a million on a progress tracker or to give you a bit of randomized loot.

RDR2's story overall isn't great, but even with its flaws it's still a fair sight better than Horizon and Sushi

Many games did that approach though, from Morrowind and Gothic to new games like Breath of the Wild and Elden Ring.
Yet they never reach the same levels of circlejerk this game does, i actually believe it is the most circlejerked game on the internet right now.
Third worlders and casual gamers probably with low experience in gaming think its the greatest thing since sliced bread and will swarm you with insults if you criticize it.

BOTW praise is journalists exclusive, yes the gamers praised it but not comparable to the levels of praise RDR2 receives.

RDR2 is literally Redit's favorite game, it was voted 1st by them just few months ago.

That's probably because it's weird to still be talking about a 7 year old game when a sequel just came out last year. The same thing would happen if you made a thread about RDR1. You're only going to get weird people.

Tears of the Kingdom threads still regularly hit bump limit and there's discussion of the first one inside them.

I lost interest when the game forces you into woke territory. Like “omg le south wuz bad” “let’s help the suffragettes!” And shit like that there is good stuff about the game but there are much better out there. Also the multiplayer sucks actual ass.

It has a lot of flaws, strangely at the time of its release all those flaws were discussed, i remember that, but somewhere throughout the recent years it gained massive popularity and everyone started to suck its dick.
What happened? did some e-celeb praise it or something? did i miss something?

    >overly drawn-out melodrama means it's good!
Rockstar has been falling into the exact same writing tropes for every single game and they suck.
    >characters speak too transparently about the themes in the writer's mind, often making Kevin Smith's Clerks look subtle
    >characters are 'over the top' and 'larger than life' when they're just obnoxious and annoying, add nothing to the story or the main character who's just silently listening to their idiotic droning drivel
    >characters talk nonfrickingstop during the 'drive to the mission area' sequence and it's basically never anything important
If any of this was in an actual movie, it would be called out for the slop it is.

One of my biggest gripes with Rockstar stories is that they always pull the ideas out of Hollywood films, from GTA Vice City all the way to RDR2, if you watch a lot of movies like me you will notice how so many ideas and plot points are taken straight from movies.

And to make matters worse the gameplay barely evolves still the same since 2003.

I know what you mean because Max Payne 3 rips off Man on Fire so hard it's insane, right down to the recurring visual motifs of image distortion with specific lines of dialogue on screen in various formats because the main character is an addict.
That being said, their output doesn't demonstrate that they have a solid grasp on film like actual filmmakers do or on games like various game creators do, or frankly on films like some game creators do.
