They're not, they just bite you, maybe outrun you.
Spiders are worse, they web / slow you and can poison you, too. Way worse, that.
Spiders move very deliberately. Dogs in games are just spastic morons with unpredictable movement patterns.
You clearly never played 7 days to die before. They run silently, don't bark and constantly inflict stun, bleed and infection with a single attack through heavy armor. Whoever at funpimps designed that infernal creature can burn in hell.

The DS3 big dogs just run so fast that the render culling doesn't have time to keep up
interesting. I had a DS3 dog end up on top of an object once because of the teleporting.
The reason they teleport is because they resized the dog model to make them smaller, but when you aren't loading them (such as if your camera faces away) the dogs deload a lot of information, and their scale reverts to default. Their run speed is linked to the run animation, so when they're larger they run faster. So in short, whenever you don't look at a dog in Dark Souls 3 its run speed increases a large amount, which is what causes the apparent teleports
After I jacked of to that animation of this dog getting fricked by a photographer I just accepted there was no going back and now I'm open to most kinds of degeneracy.
