when i relogged into wow for the first time in like a decade, in around 2020 i got perma banned after 4 hours of barrens chat. I have never even been warned in FF14 and I talk pretty candidly on whatever I want. FF14 has strict moderation but it lands on antifa and gays just as hard as chuds. WoW is strictly moderated against chuds, but gays can bait and troll as much as they feel like.

I've played both and wow may be popular but the world feels empty as frick even on popular serves.
Honestly even if it isn't true right now, WoW will eventually dip below XIV because the new player experience is abject dogshit. I got bored of XIV for a bit and tried WoW in Shadowlands as a player with 0 nostalgia for the game an honestly it's absurd how poorly put together the game is. Lots of unnecessary time wasting mechanics like the game being a vast field of fricking nothing content 20 levels below you that you don't have any reason to do but your mount moves at a snails pace and teleports are absurdly scarce. Also the fact that trying to hunt for mounts or transmogs requires you to have 30 alts grinding for a 1% droprate on a weekly lockout or 3 months of dailys for 6 year old content is crazy. Plus the campaign for Shadowlands put me to fricking sleep and I don't get how people can take a 15+ year old storyline and make it as boring as A Realm Reborn was.
Meanwhile, XIV has really put a lot of effort into improving new player experience by condensing ARR as much as they can, adding Trusts to make the game basically singleplayer up to Heavensward, adding flying to ARR zones just for completing 2.0, and so on. Plus the timegates are minimal and there is a wealth of casual side-content while everything but current-tier raiding in WoW is basically just vestigial legacy content.
