Yeah that's what I do. Fighting games are not designed to be fun unless you're already good. Starting from 0 in a fighting game feels like learning a trade. There's so much shit to learn it's overwhelming and even after you're done learning you have to start practicing in real matches, which means losing countless times against people that already learned to play years ago and will ocassionally mock you through DM's and such just to spite you even more. It's simply not a good time.
Literally the only way to enjoy fighting games is:

Fighting games are dying because they completely abandoned their audience to appeal to a new generation with autocombos, modern/simple inputs, and other accessibility features. But, surprise, it turns out even with no execution or skill barrier to them, most people just don't like losing.
So now nobody fricking likes them except for waifugays or dev loyalists. It doesn't help that most fighting game devs completely ignore widely requested quality of life features. GBVSR doesn't even have connection indicators pre-match, let alone a wifi indicator. No game lets me filter out wifi users from my matchmaking. Most games still have dogshit training mode features. Almost everything about fighting games fricking suck. They're the least cared about genre in all of gaming.
Casuals can only bear competitive games if they have some kind of safety net.
Teammates to blame for losses, uncompetitive mechanics that reward mistakes, removal of penalties for losing.
Any kind of system that can pat their ass when they lose.

It's incredibly autistic to actually learn to play, on top of requiring a lot of skill. The only reason autists play new games is because the new games get in tournaments. The second tournaments die, fightan dies, because no one (besides Nintendo) is going to create casual fighters for normal people - even simpler games like GBF Rising still cater mostly to the tourney autists.
