Japs are obsessed with cuckoldry. Hell, the game you posted even baits it in a skit about the main heroine and main villain.

JRPGs are Japan's love-letter to the West, which is doomed, and they subconsciously intuit this, resulting in tragic endings.

And then his planet got destroyed and he got separated from all of them before having to sacrifice his life so that just one of his daughters could live a relatively normal life.

And then it was all undone by some tard horny for catgirl pussy, giving everyone from the first two games their happy endings back.

Yeah but was it really? Pyra and Mythra's fates are still unclear. Rex still gave up his lifeforce for Glimmer, but she's been dead for hundreds of years. And we're still not even sure what happened to his third kid.

Everything that happened in Aionios was completely undone once it was destroyed with only some vague memories or feelings of what happened there remaining in the people who actually incarnated into it. All of them are right back to where they were before the worlds collided.

                >game opens with little Noah going to play with his friends before time starts distorting and the worlds collide
                >game ends with time resuming for little Noah as if nothing had happened except he now has a weird fascination for catgirls for some reason
XC3 was one of those dumb "it was all a dream, except not really" endings.

Did I miss a scene or something? The game ends with Noah and co running and trying to reach each other, then the worlds separating. Then FR ends with the implication that the worlds reunited, but nothing concrete was shown about the state of the new world.

God damn it! I watched the credits for like 5 minutes before finally giving up and assuming that skipping them would bring me straight to any post-credit scene!
                Thanks for the heads up.

After watching it, it's almost worse than the original ending.

And then Noah and Mio retconned everything that happened inside Aionios so for Rex and Shulk it was just a brief bad dream while the planets got fused and Rex is about to deal with Mio's teenage pregnancy soon.

None of that happened though. Aionis was undone like waking from a dream- the worlds merged, and Rex was with his family.

Not when they're so overused at this point. Tales of Arise ending stuck out because it was a happily ever after ending. The ending for FF16 will be forgotten in a month because it's your generic "muh bittersweet" ending.

japs are enamored with the classic plot structure of a drama. the final act of a play is supposed to be the "catastrophe" when story ends by the hero meeting some dark fall.

Tales of Arise was a very average game, but at least they had a fricking ending that was mostly conclusive and didn't do some fricking annoying ambiguous bullshit. They save the world, they get married, and then they throw a fricking party. Based ending.

Meanwhile every other JRPG is doing everything they can to end not only bittersweet, but also ending in a way where you don't really know what happened and it's left to interpretation because the writer was too lazy to write a fricking ending. Frick you.

      Reminder :

      - Tales of Symphonia = Kratos or Zelos Sacrified Himself
      - Tales of Abyss = Like Sacrified Himself
      - Tales Of Xillia = Milla Sacrified Herself
      - Tales Of Xillia 2 = Ludger Sacrified Himself for the canon ending
      - Tales Of Graces = Sophie Sacrified Herself (?)
      - Tales Of Zestiria = Sorey Sacrified Himself
      - Tales Of Berseria = Velvet Sacrified Herself

Jesus christ this series had a boner of killing characters for """"""""Shock Value"""""""""
They even did the same with the Gacha too like Crestoria..... Except Rays, all of the characters has good ending. and Rays is the most successfull gacha in Tales series
      No wonder Tales is DEAD.

        To add to that:
        - Tales of Destiny = Stahn sacrificed himself spilled his guts on the ground a few years later after the game while his family just watched helpessly

If your only requirement for liking an ending is whether it's 100% happy or not you're literally braindead. Arise's ending was fricking dreadful. Asspull a villain back to life, make Alphen a complete moron and let him have the macguffin he literally needs to save both the world and his wife, and for what? So they can asspull a spirit bomb from Dahna to just end it all hunky dory anyways.

While the West has "The Heroes Journey", Japan has their own structure of story telling tropes that largely goes back to Kabuki theater centuries ago.

A big Japanese cliche there is a sudden plot twist that usually happens after the plot should have been resolved? Beat the antagonist? The mysterious moody party member suddenly stabs the protagonist's love interest through the heart.
Beat the antagonist and set-up the perfect happy ending? The antagonist's last remaining henchman reveals he's going to blow up the world so the protagonist sacrifices his life to save everything.

    That kind of shit.

Man Arise sucked. What’s up with jrpgs completely botching the final act this generation? Xenoblade and FF also did it

Slipping up on the final act is unfortunate, but it doesn't ruin the whole game(s) for me. It's not like it overwrites the rest of those game which were good.

It's hard to write a good conclusion when you're limited by being a video game where the player characters inevitably have to "boss fight" and defeat the villains. Video games are just a shit medium for storytelling. Even something like the tournament arc in Hero Academia has a more complex story than what JRPGs can do, which is why I've always been confused by storygays existing on Ganker

Anime endings have gone down the drain too.

In Xenoblade 3's case, it's literally because COVID fricked over the last stretch of the game's development/story.

The final act fricking sucked save for for the 10 minutes after the final boss.
