That quote was the first thing I thought of when I saw BDSP.
It is a horrible attitude to have, and it's a horrible quote to hear as a fan who was looking forward to the games. It goes to show how at that point, it was no longer about making something they were passionate about for people to enjoy, it was about making a product to sell, and they cut effort in proportion to expected fiscal performance.
You could say they should have stepped away from development at the point the attitude began to shift, but I bet there's some contractual frickery keeping each and every party involved anchored to a money cow that they all hate now.
Masuda should have let Ohmori talk about it instead of taking the blame for him

in fairness, working with sprites was always going to be easier than working with models.
He's so based. This is why HGSS are my favorite Pokemon games of all time. They really packed so much into these games.
They knew that of they did more than the bare minimum, that would be the expectation here on out.

The fact that Gen Alphas and trannies (usually Unova fans) are hating on HGSS nowadays shows Masuda was right about Pokémon fans.
See the thing is with Pokemon fans is they try to make their favorite game look better by knocking down the other games, especially other popular ones.

If I already have that shiny starter, just reset, but if I don't have it, just go with it despite not being the one I wanted.
Just trade it to another game if you really want the specific shiny starter.
