No fighting game player wants to play the aberration seriously and no fighting game player does play it seriously. Think about combat sports: some guy who's really good at some gay shit like capoeira might be able to make it in mixed, but the mixed guys aren't going to bother getting good at capoeira.

Leftnut is mediocre at them and can only win against other poor to mediocre players at certain crap games like strive. Any game with real competition and hell be struggling to make it out of pools.

Strive being a party game is not really a controversial take, Leffen running away from +R and even Xrd because he got routinely smoked by mid level players is also not a mystery, neither is the fact that he has more adderall than blood in his body.

Typical Fighting games of the genre are more restricted in terms of what you can accomplish. You are confined to space with walls some distance apart from each other, you only have 3 variations of a jump (up, jumping up backward and forward) and the rest is neutral and pushing your advantage state with a combo.

Smash Bros, has more to consider with the stage choices, types of jumps (short hops, full jumps, mid air jumps + the 3 versions), and the pacing of the game changes beyond the mental component at higher percents because you have to do specific actions to score kills. You can jab a guy to death in Street Fighter. In Smash Bros, you can jab a guy to 999% and it still won't secure the requirement to win; take knock them off the stage to take their stocks.

In addition, you can steal stocks from edgeguarding and ledge trapping is more nuanced than keeping someone at a wall.

TL:Dr Smash gives you a shit ton of more scenarios to consider compared to typical fighting game due to the nature of platform fighting games and its goal to knock opponents off the stage as opposed to other traditional fighting games whose goal is to empty the opponent's health bar.

melee gives you more control of the game and promotes honest skill growth. the faster your opponent is, the better you need to be in order to keep up with them. street fighter, tekken etc were more designed for arcade machine profits and lean towards rock paper scissor outcomes.

Ultimate was dying content wise and strive was getting big + is one of the easier ones

The question wasn’t why aren’t there any smash players in a real fighting game, it was why aren’t there any smash players in evo. Strive is an evo game.

Because they don’t want to play melee. Which is a shame because I wonder how they would do if they really grinded it. There’s a ton of legacy players in melee, so how long would it take for them to start taking wins?

From what I've heard, it takes about two years to burn the fundimentals into your brain and muscles while learning the match ups. It took Zain himself about five to go from a beginner to being top ten material, but that was also pre slippi era, so maybe it can be done much faster with it now.

He is a discount sonicfox, only good at games that have little to no real competition. Anything with a hint of real competition will cause him to seethe, unleash his horde of wienersuckers to attack the community, and run back to melee to lick his wounds.

fgs are eternal (gameplay wise) while the smash community embraced all the secondaries and will die as nintendo wills it.

PM can't grow if nintendo cries to every streaming platform to get it banned, which they did. And don't act like any fighting game can survive outside of being a niche side event without big events being streamed

        Anonymous

melee had almost no streaming and survived only through smashfests which are weekly or monthly meet ups, it all changed with streamers siphoning money out of it.

name a single popular fighting game right now which doesn't have a large streaming scene propping it up

            Anonymous

the streaming scene comes after a popular game, melee is probably the only game that a publisher tried to stop getting into evo lol

meanwhile fighting games haven't really changed since their inception. Just the occasional bolted on gimmick

yeah and 99% of the time it's fricking dogshit. there's a reason why their best games are all barely changed from their N64 counterparts
