Maybe because it's better design, but most likely because people had smaller scopes and simpler ideas.
No
Get pwned
path of exil where you spam 1 ability for all eternity and you have to follow a guide to know what to do and when to do it for the entire playthrough?
yeah diablo 2 had a smaller skill tree, but each thing was viable and diverse
enjoy your 9000th hour of spamming the same skill kid
diablo classes were actual classes with unique playstyles, even just basic diablo 3 has more fun and diversity in fun gameplay than the entire 10+ years of rehashing the same shit for POE
COPE
>each thing was viable and diverse
viable doesn't necessarily mean optimal, so yes.
>but each thing was viable and diverse
you have never played d2, havent you? d2's build ''''diversity''''' is fricking dog shit.
How to out yourself as a zoomer who never played D2.
>but each thing was viable and diverse
if you wasted 200 hours farming bis items
>t. never played d2
newer arpgs are made by people who played d2 or for people who have. they've already used every skill and build and so they make games that build new systems around old familiar skills. of course they make their own new abilities and mechanics too
I just started playing PoE for the first time and it feels so soulless compared to Diablo II (which it’s obviously ripping off). Like a fan project mixed with a Korean MMO. It’s hard to put my finger on exactly what it’s missing, but the lack of soul is palpable.
the soul comes from glowing mtx, I'm not kidding either. if you have good mtx that game is amazing, otherwise it's dumb
path of exile had to build off something
Seriously, poe massive skill three where 80% of skills are garbage +2% adds serve only to intimidate new players and make it less clear where the actual useful skills are and how to get there
>the endgame of both Diablo and PoE is just constant autistic grindfarming in hopes of getting more high level loot/runes/whatever for your moronic OP build where you can just wipe out every enemy onscreen with 1 click
Seriously, how does anyone find this fun? There’s no skill involved other than the “skill” of googling some moronic OP minmax build and grinding for months of your life to farm runes so you can build it. I can’t imagine anything more boring tbh.
you wouldn't get it
>can play cookie clicker with nice graphics for god knows how many hours
>can't activate windows
Path of Exile is a bad example since that's all passives and only some of the keystone nodes noticeably changes gameplay.
Better example would be Last Epoch where you have an individual skill-tree for each skill and it meaningfully changes how the skill functions.
Different priorities
Diablo 1-2:
> Dark and dangerous adventure against the Devil himself.
PoE:
> Calculator where you need to reach higher numbers in Path of Building.
> Dark and dangerous adventure against the Devil himself
Funny how people somehow forgot that this is what those games were all about.
I like PoE lore more than Diablo, the idea of being stranded in hostile and alien land is great, but I just can't be assed getting into the grind.
I prefer their endgame lore over the regular campaign lore. Killing unimaginable eldritch space horrors is kinda neat.
I like how it's a journey, and it's actually pretty well explained how you go from an outcast to a god basically. It's neat.
>tfw first time fighting Vaal Oversoul and the music kicks in
wonder how they will tie up their story for poe2. its 20 years after current events and they somehow need to reset the whole power ceiling. you were literally god at the end.
>Diablo 2 skill trees are so simple compared to Path of Exile.
They're functionally the same considering most of the nodes in PoE's skill tree are simple stat boosts.
Diablo II skill trees started simplistic, no one liked that so they added synergies which makes them complex enough.
synergies made them unironically less complex and killed a lot of build diversity. you are literally shoehorned into skills with as many synergies as possible.
>PoE
>literally just copy pasted HP nodes in between the 10 actual skills
Boomers' minds were too simplistic.
youngsters today are much smarter and can handle a lot more
All zoomers do is copy a guide they watched on youtube or reddit. Zoomers are rarely innovating anything themselves. POEs variety is artificial
