I do not care for the oversized head/hands. Looks wonky as frick in sex videos.
Platformers are for children and so they are children-sized.
Being small also means the character can be more "boxy" or have roughly the same dimensions sideways as vertically. This means you just need to get their hitblob around the place where the platform is. When you have a "normal" sized person, then you can easily hit the side of a platform which you'd expect them to grab but fall down due to it not being under their legs.
