People like the sprites not only because their colors are usually a lot more vibrant but also because they usually look more lively and energetic than the 3d models who just kind of stand there.
Some of the animation looks better than others. Mew doesn't work as well since she had a very thin tail. Not to mention it honestly doesn't look that bad on a DS screen since its so small and the pixels are more dense.
Eelektross actually has really good animation for his sprite in the Gen 5 games. He bounces around end starts flashing the yellow on his body, its awesome.
I like the dancing eel, but the floating eel makes more sense. I just wish it had actual punching animations, but I'd be asking too much from this series.
I genuinely can't fathom anyone liking the gen 5 eelektross animation outside of "lol it's so wacky and silly!!!" irony poisoning (same reason dumb people like dudunsparce)
one looks like an eel monster that unconventionally jumps around on the ground as if it had legs and uses its fists.
the other one looks like a leech that is waving in the wind.
not the same as dudunsparce. gen 5 eelektross also is less silly and more cool than the 3d one.
You're crazy man. The Gen 5 Eelektross looks pumped and ready for battle, the 3D models is just... Swimming. It's not bad, but one is just cooler than the other.
the gen 6+ animation is just... boring. being le wacky and silly gives it some personality, while just lazily swimming in place is about as bland as you can get.
I've never actually understood why this one is the one people use as an example of sprites being better. While it's cool that the sprite sort of uses its fins as legs, I always felt it was odd that it was "standing" despite the fact it having Levitate was a notable aspect of its design. Beyond that, I felt the 3Ds unjulating animation makes a lot more sense for an eel.

sprite tweening aged like milk. i cant play the gen 5 games anymore the schizophrenic battle camera and hideous animations ruin it
