ESG score, bigger game development does take it seriously because there are investors behind it, and when there are investors they are not actually looking at the game itself, they dont give a frick, they look at the data on a piece of paper that lets them see "this is good because the score is high". This isnt just for videogames its across all media right now and despite repeated failures it keeps happening because in the end this stuff is still bringing in investors who are just seeing that it has "high investment value" via the ESG score, they arent seeing the blowback and failings of the product because they arent looking at that, they are simply seeing "this thing has a high ESG score and so has high value", adversely, theyll also see low ESG scores and demand they raise it so as to improve their market value, or avoid those that are low entirely.
This whole system is flawed and it will never get fixed, its a very flawed investment algorithm that has only proved successful in that most media has so much money involved in it now that they are to big to fall and never get up after a failure, rather they stumble over the finish line, but not at a loss, and that is technically a win.
