It has too many fundamental design flaws to be a truly great game. Not even getting into the globohomosexual stuff, but problems that all of Larian's games have, like the level design, or the camera controls. Even since Divine Divinity, their camera has always been jank as frick, with the environment constantly getting in the way of what you want to be looking at. It has only gotten worse with time, BG3 having such a jank camera that most of your APM is spent trying to position the constantly bouncing-around camera around the incredibly obnoxiously designed environments, making even clicking a stationary enemy during turn-based combat, or looting a fricking chest, a challenge at times.
I could spontaneously break into a long series of rambling screeds going into detail about all the deliberately moronic designs they've made that piss me off, but it's been so long since I played it now that I don't have it in me to get properly mad about it anymore, so putting in the effort to do so doesn't feel good.
why did they remove companions jumping over acid? they do it sometimes during certain circumstances but i can never get it to repeat and most of the time my moron NPC's walk through acid, fire, etc
i know they can do it, including letting the player character autopath jump to places as well instead of forcing you to constantly do it yourself, because i've seen it happen and i'm fairly certain it was like that in the old games too

I have 0 motivation to even pirate this game. 2 main reasons:
1, All I know of this game is that you can be all kinds of gay and have sex with whatnot. And I'm not really looking for a porn game. I know nothing about the story, theres nothing about the gameplay that stands out, and lets be real, the characters can only be ruined in current woke age.
2, There's plenty of other (better) games in the same category - I still have WotR on my to-play list, and I still didnt finish Kingmaker, not not mention I still have BG1&2 + Torment installers on my drive for when I finish WotR. All of these have simply way better hooks than gay bear sex and all of them use a better ruleset than 5e.

In case you really care and actually fell for the Ganker brainrot:
1. I saw 1 (one) straight sex scene in two entire playthroughs, likely ~250 hours. The game is as gay as you make it, if you really pursue the homosexual options, you're going to get them. I had a relationship with a Drow lady in an evil campaign and then avoided romance entirely in my good campaign. The story is very good through act 2 when you're solving a mystery, I felt it fell off in act 3. I do really like the main party characters, though. They all got development that I liked, but you have a pretty large hand in steering their actions. There are two gay things that were eye rolling: a certain Aasimar and every single gnome in the game. Didn't like those but I chose to speak with them as little as possible.
2. Kingmaker and WotR are great games, I won't deny that, I have many more hours in both than BG3. I also want to play BG1+2 and Planescape Torment. I do think the cinematic nature of BG3 is a good thing for the genre, they certainly didn't skimp on content and dialogue despite everything being voiced. I had a couple of moments where I did have a tear in my eye, and I can't really say that for the Pathfinder games. It's worth a playthrough anon.

The other party members don't tell that dwarf they're infected and I doubt any of them would be so forward. Especially at the beginning of the story. And why would you assume the methods you find to get your own tadpole out wouldn't work for the whole party? Like, if the hag could remove the tadpole, why wouldn't she just do it for everyone and get something precious from them, like your eye? This seems like an issue with you being unable to grasp things left unsaid, anon.

The worms mulch your brain on the way out, perhaps beyond the scope of what revivify could heal (missing body parts are not returned). Those scrolls are included for gameplay reasons as I doubt every character is just carrying around 5 scrolls of revivify to revive themselves when they die (not possible). Lastly, I'm pretty sure every example we see of a tadpole leaving a body it was forced out by someone else. I think, of your party members, the only one to even suggest this plan of action would be Gale. But this is a magical setting where there's always a magical backdoor to every solution that you can autistically nitpick. Now a better, less autistic answer you could have given me was Withers. With him around you should feasibly be able to do as you said. But he specifically wants you to seek the source of them and many people simply would up and leave if not for the impending threat of death.

To add onto this, my one major gripe beyond the 3rd act not being as interesting is that the party characters are very forward with their propositions for romance. I feel it was only really appropriate for Lae'zel and Astarion. Everyone else really should have had either you or them hint at it first and allow you to turn them down permanently. It felt wrong for my elderly Dwarf ranger to be romancing anyone, he already had a family and many kids in the backstory I had in my head, so it would have been nice if I didn't have to turn down each main party member 1-3 times.

Sounds cool to me, but I never heard any such thing about BG3. As for characters I dont know details, I heard they did some dumb shit with Viconia, but I just assumed.
2, I'm not really a cinematic guy, and I really dont care about voice acting either. In most games I just read the sentence and skip to next line before VA is finished. The only game I can think of that made me kind of emotional was Torment so this isnt a realistic for me to expect from a game, unless the emotion is competitvness or frustration. >It's worth a playthrough anon.

Fair point on the second one though, Kingmaker and WotR have way more content. I beat BG3 in about 80 hours, whereas 80 hours in WotR barely gets you to the second or maybe third act. But everything in BG3 is fully animated and voiced which is cool.

I enjoyed myself with it until Act 3, when performance started to tank and the presence of the two remaining antagonists felt kind of weak. It was this forced melodrama where you have to talk to these really bad dudes who both just want to frick over each other and you as hard as possible and you know the moment you start talking to either of them that it's gonna break down and become a fight. There are also a lot of encounters that are just a slog to play through, plus this faux time pressure of Orin kidnapping one of your party members and making it seem like they're going to die if you don't scurry along to collect whoever gets got.
I think there are still things to like about it. Some encounters are still fun, some dialog is nice, but mostly it's very worn out by the time you reach the tail-end of act 2. I also think the stuff with the Emperor sucks a lot, and that there are no consequences or alternative outcomes for having gone full tadpole is really odd.

Except Gortash is 100% honest (And everyone in your party, even the emperor, tell you so), and you can actually ally with him and he won't betray you for no reason. I really liked what they did with him.

his ending was pretty underwhelming (so was the case for all the origins) but he's still funnier than the rest
It would have been better as DO3. The D&D battle mechanics (long resting to get skills back combined long resting actually progressing/skipping some events combined with important events happening during long rests is complete shit, antithetical design). Dialog choices involving dice rolls instead of a straight stat check is also bad design, as no choice ever matters since picking the one with the highest chance to succeed is almost aways the best choice if you don't feel like save scumming (which shouldn't even be possible if the devs were competent. It's not very hard to pre-determine rolls so it's the same roll even if you reload save).
I don't like D&D rules and the setting, when I saw the first cutscene with some moronic flying ship and the tentacle dude I already zero interest.
I liked how the combat worked on a base level, but I don't care about the classes, spells, abilities and the mechanics of the dice rolling.
Also the focus on romance/sex rubs me the wrong way, it seems that it's the main focus of the game is 'who's fricking who' like it's a sitcom or soap opera.
I played for 15 hours and a member I never even used in my party tried to frick me. I had never even talked to him besides when him had the notification over head; the scene leading up to it was also insanely cringe. I stopped after that happened. It's so bad.
as jrpg gay, I tried and beat this game. I admit it was good but my brain cant stand the dice roll system in every single aspect of the game. i had to save scum the game billion times because I wanted to achieve the best possible outcome but I later realized this game wasnt supposed to be played that way but it is just not my style and I dont think I want to play game like this anymore in the future.

presentation was great but the focus wasnt really there if you are not hooked by the time you go to the goblin village it is highly unlikely you will like the rest of the game. That being said i found i'm not a fan of the battle system and forced myself to see the game through the end because i bought it full price and haven't touched it since.
i found armor is practically worthless so i just took all the females, made them nude and ran through the game like that to get me through.
The game shines in Act 1 but that is a given they spent 4 years polishing it.
Act 2 shows the cracks and where bugs happen, the only memorable thing in Act 2 is outdrinking the fatshit.
Act 3 is an absolutely shit show with bugs riddled all over the place, NPCs are near oblivious to what is happening, not to mention party interaction dies down a lot even more than Act 2.
It is a game that managed to rise to popularity because it is a movie video game mixed with a visual novel. Plus the main thing normalgays were talking about was the mtx in this game, literally every game is already decided if it is good or not if it has mtx. I never talked with a normalgay about what they enjoyed about the game, but rather it didn't have mtx, and larian sold you a "complete" game. It is all so tiresome.

It's really good. Not perfect or amazing but really good. Despite the poor combat it still winds up being the best crpg in decades (maybe of all time) because of the attention to detail and care/effort put into the game.
It was obviously goty with no competition whatsoever.
the most important parts of a crpg are the story, the characters, and the quests/world which larian put extreme amounts of care/effort into.
DOS2 which has infinitely better combat winds up being a piece of shit because the game is lifeless outside of combat.
DAO has amazing characters and world, but there's no interactivity and the game is effectively ~just~ the main quest. The combat is also RtwP which is not a good choice.

The only issue with DOS 2 is that the difficulty completely broke down by the last Act, even without lone wolf shenanigans or minmaxing. meaning all the big antagonists set up for god knows how many hours get wiped in a single turn (*cough* the doctor *cough*)
I had to pause the game just to enjoy the final boss music because I wiped him and his henchmen with my team.

It has too many fundamental design flaws to be a truly great game. Not even getting into the globohomosexual stuff, but problems that all of Larian's games have, like the level design, or the camera controls. Even since Divine Divinity, their camera has always been jank as frick, with the environment constantly getting in the way of what you want to be looking at. It has only gotten worse with time, BG3 having such a jank camera that most of your APM is spent trying to position the constantly bouncing-around camera around the incredibly obnoxiously designed environments, making even clicking a stationary enemy during turn-based combat, or looting a fricking chest, a challenge at times.
I could spontaneously break into a long series of rambling screeds going into detail about all the deliberately moronic designs they've made that piss me off, but it's been so long since I played it now that I don't have it in me to get properly mad about it anymore, so putting in the effort to do so doesn't feel good.

1, All I know of this game is that you can be all kinds of gay and have sex with whatnot. And I'm not really looking for a porn game. I know nothing about the story, theres nothing about the gameplay that stands out, and lets be real, the characters can only be ruined in current woke age.
2, There's plenty of other (better) games in the same category - I still have WotR on my to-play list, and I still didnt finish Kingmaker, not not mention I still have BG1&2 + Torment installers on my drive for when I finish WotR. All of these have simply way better hooks than gay bear sex and all of them use a better ruleset than 5e.

In case you really care and actually fell for the Ganker brainrot:
1. I saw 1 (one) straight sex scene in two entire playthroughs, likely ~250 hours. The game is as gay as you make it, if you really pursue the homosexual options, you're going to get them. I had a relationship with a Drow lady in an evil campaign and then avoided romance entirely in my good campaign. The story is very good through act 2 when you're solving a mystery, I felt it fell off in act 3. I do really like the main party characters, though. They all got development that I liked, but you have a pretty large hand in steering their actions. There are two gay things that were eye rolling: a certain Aasimar and every single gnome in the game. Didn't like those but I chose to speak with them as little as possible.
2. Kingmaker and WotR are great games, I won't deny that, I have many more hours in both than BG3. I also want to play BG1+2 and Planescape Torment. I do think the cinematic nature of BG3 is a good thing for the genre, they certainly didn't skimp on content and dialogue despite everything being voiced. I had a couple of moments where I did have a tear in my eye, and I can't really say that for the Pathfinder games. It's worth a playthrough anon.

Like, if the hag could remove the tadpole, why wouldn't she just do it for everyone and get something precious from them, like your eye? Those scrolls are included for gameplay reasons as I doubt every character is just carrying around 5 scrolls of revivify to revive themselves when they die (not possible). Lastly, I'm pretty sure every example we see of a tadpole leaving a body it was forced out by someone else. I think, of your party members, the only one to even suggest this plan of action would be Gale. But this is a magical setting where there's always a magical backdoor to every solution that you can autistically nitpick. Now a better, less autistic answer you could have given me was Withers. With him around you should feasibly be able to do as you said. But he specifically wants you to seek the source of them and many people simply would up and leave if not for the impending threat of death.

To add onto this, my one major gripe beyond the 3rd act not being as interesting is that the party characters are very forward with their propositions for romance. I feel it was only really appropriate for Lae'zel and Astarion. Everyone else really should have had either you or them hint at it first and allow you to turn them down permanently. It felt wrong for my elderly Dwarf ranger to be romancing anyone, he already had a family and many kids in the backstory I had in my head, so it would have been nice if I didn't have to turn down each main party member 1-3 times.
First off, I dont know why do you guys assume my only source of information is Ganker, every single source I saw that mentioned the game just mentioned gays or bear sex, or just mundane facts like its D&D and such. I'm not joking when I say there's no hook for me.
1, Maybe I worded it badly but the point of the first point was the lack of hook. I dont mind some sex scenes, I guess its ok if there's more if you seek them out, but I'm not interested. You say the story is good, can you sell me on it in one sentence or so? Like in BG1 theres a mysterious person trying to kill you and its all somehow related to god of murder. Sounds cool to me, but I never heard any such thing about BG3. As for characters I dont know details, I heard they did some dumb shit with Viconia, but I just assumed.
2, I'm not really a cinematic guy, and I really dont care about voice acting either. In most games I just read the sentence and skip to next line before VA is finished. The only game I can think of that made me kind of emotional was Torment so this isnt a realistic for me to expect from a game, unless the emotion is competitvness or frustration.

Fair point on the second one though, Kingmaker and WotR have way more content. I beat BG3 in about 80 hours, whereas 80 hours in WotR barely gets you to the second or maybe third act. But everything in BG3 is fully animated and voiced which is cool.

I enjoyed myself with it until Act 3, when performance started to tank and the presence of the two remaining antagonists felt kind of weak. It was this forced melodrama where you have to talk to these really bad dudes who both just want to frick over each other and you as hard as possible and you know the moment you start talking to either of them that it's gonna break down and become a fight. There are also a lot of encounters that are just a slog to play through, plus this faux time pressure of Orin kidnapping one of your party members and making it seem like they're going to die if you don't scurry along to collect whoever gets got.
I think there are still things to like about it. Some encounters are still fun, some dialog is nice, but mostly it's very worn out by the time you reach the tail-end of act 2. I also think the stuff with the Emperor sucks a lot, and that there are no consequences or alternative outcomes for having gone full tadpole is really odd.
I'm not reading all that.

It would have been better as DO3. The D&D battle mechanics (long resting to get skills back combined long resting actually progressing/skipping some events combined with important events happening during long rests is complete shit, antithetical design). Dialog choices involving dice rolls instead of a straight stat check is also bad design, as no choice ever matters since picking the one with the highest chance to succeed is almost aways the best choice if you don't feel like save scumming (which shouldn't even be possible if the devs were competent. It's not very hard to pre-determine rolls so it's the same roll even if you reload save).
I don't like D&D rules and the setting, when I saw the first cutscene with some moronic flying ship and the tentacle dude I already zero interest.
I liked how the combat worked on a base level, but I don't care about the classes, spells, abilities and the mechanics of the dice rolling.
Also the focus on romance/sex rubs me the wrong way, it seems that it's the main focus of the game is 'who's fricking who' like it's a sitcom or soap opera.
I played for 15 hours and a member I never even used in my party tried to frick me. I had never even talked to him besides when him had the notification over head; the scene leading up to it was also insanely cringe. I stopped after that happened. It's so bad.

I admit it was good but my brain cant stand the dice roll system in every single aspect of the game. i had to save scum the game billion times because I wanted to achieve the best possible outcome but I later realized this game wasnt supposed to be played that way but it is just not my style and I dont think I want to play game like this anymore in the future.

presentation was great but the focus wasnt really there if you are not hooked by the time you go to the goblin village it is highly unlikely you will like the rest of the game. That being said i found i'm not a fan of the battle system and forced myself to see the game through the end because i bought it full price and haven't touched it since.
i found armor is practically worthless so i just took all the females, made them nude and ran through the game like that to get me through.
The game shines in Act 1 but that is a given they spent 4 years polishing it.
Act 2 shows the cracks and where bugs happen, the only memorable thing in Act 2 is outdrinking the fatshit.
Act 3 is an absolutely shit show with bugs riddled all over the place, NPCs are near oblivious to what is happening, not to mention party interaction dies down a lot even more than Act 2.
It is a game that managed to rise to popularity because it is a movie video game mixed with a visual novel. Plus the main thing normalgays were talking about was the mtx in this game, literally every game is already decided if it is good or not if it has mtx. I never talked with a normalgay about what they enjoyed about the game, but rather it didn't have mtx, and larian sold you a "complete" game. It is all so tiresome.

The bug that made everyone way too horny for you just ruined my immersion and interest in this game at release. Playing video games with romance is already cringe but having everyone line up for your tent even the people who had no reason to like you and never was in the party felt extremely icky. I'll try it again one day and hopefully I'll like it.
Also the combat was boring and the inventory management sucked but I've played many decent games with awful combat and gameplay so it's not a dealbreaker.

It's really good. Not perfect or amazing but really good. Despite the poor combat it still winds up being the best crpg in decades (maybe of all time) because of the attention to detail and care/effort put into the game.

DAO has amazing characters and world, but there's no interactivity and the game is effectively ~just~ the main quest. The combat is also RtwP which is not a good choice.

the combat is miles better, absolutely. Everything else ranges from "a little worse" to "this is dogshit in comparison"
combat unfortunately doesn't really matter in crpgs.
The only issue with DOS 2 is that the difficulty completely broke down by the last Act, even without lone wolf shenanigans or minmaxing. meaning all the big antagonists set up for god knows how many hours get wiped in a single turn (*cough* the doctor *cough*)
I had to pause the game just to enjoy the final boss music because I wiped him and his henchmen with my team.
