At this point, if you have not found one you think is good, you never will.
Everything going forward will use Amazon's Rings of Power as a base, not Tolkien. Even that new LotR Dwarf game is doing it with all the black dwarves and shit.
As much as I genuinely love Lord of the Rings, I doubt I'll ever play another LotR game again as long as that is what they use as a base.
Unfortunately whenever I watch a movie of of a book it's visuals overtake and supplant my original imagination of the places and characters. I'll forever see the LOTR characters as their movie versions whether I like it or not. I should probably avoid vidya adaptations of media I like.
Well the movies visuals are fricking kino, so I don't blame you for wanting to keep that image.

Yeah, you two are probably right. It would take a special kind of circumstance, talent and dedication to Tolkien's works to make it something worthwhile, similar to the movie trilogy and its ethos. Not that it was perfect, but you understand the sentiment. These things just aren't going to line up any time soon.
Truly sad honestly.
I don't know why but for the longest time I never really imagined Tolkien's works would get watered down the same way other media franchises were. The Tolkien Estate would always guard them I thought. It was only within the past few years or so, that the notion I was wrong started to creep in. Its pretty sad honestly. It is nice to see that Tolkien fans tend to push back on that kind of thing more than other fanbases though, at least it seems that way. >similar to the movie trilogy and its ethos
I will always have respect for the films for that reason alone. It may not be a perfect 1:1 adaptation, but they went in with genuine respect for the source material, and tried to make something Tolkien himself would be proud of, and it really shows. There is a reason they are still my favorite films ever made.

Honestly it's not particularly bad for LOTR specifically. But it was an uncomfortable realization how easily my memories are overwritten

I think its something a lot of people can have issues with. Its always the "most recent" thing in mind and the most recent things are easier to recall, especially if somethings not a formative memory. I worry about my own memory in ways like that sometimes. Sometimes I feel like I need to eat better or get more sleep or something.
I read the book of Dune, specifically because I liked the way the movie trailer looked visually. I'm sure this partially impacted my imagination of it at the time of reading it, but even upon viewing the movie, many things looked different than I had imagined. Some things better. Some things worse, but I don't know if any film could really capture the way I imagine the desert the way it was written. Its weird, because I am a pretty visual person, so if I "see" something, it almost always sticks in my mind more than just "reading about" something. But with Dune and specifically the deserts of Arrakis, that did not happen for me.
Frick off Black person. Why don't your kind make something as high quality and influential as LOTR? Right, you can't. You're fricking bottom feeder parasites that know nothing but corrupting and subverting others' works.
because it would require a good writer/director and vidya is notorious for having failed wannabes (ie. kojimbo, myiazaki, david cage etc)

People who like Amazog's Rangz of the Kangz are idiots. Idiots tend to be bad at things. New LOTR games will therefore be all garbage and you will miss out on nothing by ignoring them.
True. Battle for middle earth 1 and 2 was great, conquest was quite fun and rotk/ttt were a blast.
I can’t actually think of a lotr game at that time that was bad
the battle for middle earth 2 RTS was very very good, i still remember exploring the map for gollum and the ring so that i could summon sauron
Preach it, brothers. Battle for Middle Earth 1 and 2 were the best ones we got, but on my opinion the first is better by a mile because of including both a good and an evil campaigns. The second was... alright, but I didn't liked them putting Rohan and Gondor as one faction, still it's nice they included the Men of Dale (even if it's just a couple of units as part of the Dwarf faction).
There are many great LOTR games, you must be moronic if you don't count the Two Towers on PS2, its sequel on more platforms, the real time strategy games from mid 2000s, the Assassins Creed clones LOTR games, and probably most importantly, the classic roguelikes such as Angband, Moria, Sil
This, op is a moronic zoomer. Do yourself a favor and play the Two Towers and Rotk on ps2
This was peak childhood gaming for me. Best friend would always pick legolas and I'd be gimli. I remember we'd get our shit kicked in on the lowest difficulty and always had trouble escaping the falling caverns at the start.
Oh wow, I completely forgot about the ring mechanic. Gosh that was a fun game, each faction felt so unique too. I was always an Isengard man myself but there wasn’t a single faction I didn’t like
Goblins were exceptionally kino, if I recall they were a cool zerglike faction right? I remember a bunch of weak cheap units you would use to help you defend the big expensive monster units who did the real damage

>Is Lord of the rings online any good?
it is a nice tab target game with some nostalgia feeling but at the end of the day it is still an mmorpg branded LOTR
Is Lord of the rings online any good? The amount of content they've added is unreal.
Its also got some issues with lag if I recall.
I don't remember if theres a fix / work around though.
Its definitely dated as hell, but if you don't mind dated MMO systems, you would probably like it for the world/setting alone.
There are a lot of good and mediocre LotR games. But my personal favourite is the Third Age: Divide And Conquer mod for Medieval 2 Total War.
You can play whatever faction you want, and when I say whatever faction you want I mean it. Plus a couple of made up lore-friendly factions just for fun.
I thought the LOTR movies were great but didn't like the books at all. I just don't care about troop movements, genealogies of random characters, and poems that sound good but make no sense in the context of the story. I quit FOTR after 100 pages. The Hobbit was a bit better, but not much.
There is still a community that plays Lotr BFME 2 online.
Also the AOTR mod is just amazing:

Your loss kiddo.
Nah, I will forever have fond memories and existing Tolkien works.
You who indulge in these will be partaking in nothing but a poor mockery.

I pity you, anon. I pray that someday you'll choose to grow out of being a smallminded and hate-filled racist, but I won't hold my breath.
if you really like tolkien's opera you'd stay away from that woke filled bullshit as far as possible
Nothing racist about not wanting the works of a great author bastardized.
I would say the same about great works from any race or nation.
homosexual.
Tolkien would pity you, and your current day propaganda rotten brain.
I pray that you soon die

Why?

Dwarf game looks fun, didn't ask plus you're an Elf.
Was a cool idea. A shame they dropped the ball.
>consuming any lotr media but the books

It's going public domain soon. Hence why they are selling the IP to anyone now. You just seem dumb or ignorant about business, both?
>a fantasy race has a skin color slightly darker than mine

Quit samegayging. The thread was dying.

LoTR PS2 games were good what do you mean? Two Towers and Return of the King. I liked The Third Age as well/
But there is!
I also liked the one strategy game where you can create your own hero, but I don't know how the community rated it.
Anything around this Era was probably a decent to good LotR game, anything modern isnt worth your time though.

play sil-q
I was meaning to have the physical copy of the book is this the best edition?
Because LOTR wasn't good to begin with.

i was never into it because of the monetization of the expansions and zones to explore

That's gay.
med 2 with third age mod.
Gollum just came out

Better not go near the Silmarillion.
it's not for everyone
Tolkien/Middle-earth being made into a big franchise with merch and all the drawbacks of commercialization is depressing.
>Black person elves
>GOOD MORNING SAR isildur
>Black person hobbits
>troony orcs
I'm so tired
/ourgame/ just released, anon
How often are adaptations good?
why didnt they just take the eagles to mount doom?
because the greatest adventure is what lies ahead
