Why are there no popular online card games where you can just buy all cards for like 20 bucks and have fun?

Because there's no popular card games like that IRL.
>Android Netrunner
>LOTR TCG
>L9R
>Arkham Horror
Netrunner was doing so well in fact that wotc had purposefully meddle in and kill it by some bullshit legal excuse.
I wish keyforged got popular, it was really fun to play with my friends in college 🙁
Pokemon decks are mostly between 20-50 bucks which is extremely reasonable.
Because that wouldn't make as much money.
That's simply not true... There are plenty of popular indie games that made tons of money and cost 20 bucks
Black person, I didn't say you couldn't make money. I said you don't make as much money.
>I said you don't make as much money.
Money is still money
Ahmid my son you have 2 choices
>Selling a fair product for marginal profits
Or
>Selling faux gambling that will bring in more money than you can ever imagine
faux gambling? it's pretty much real gambling, no different than any other gacha game
Gambling has the chance of making money. Digital JPGs you can't sell isn't really gambling, it's just purely burning money.
Yuigoh was in the top 50 steam games by revenue in 2023
Can you say the same for any other card games?
https://store.steampowered.com/sale/BestOf2023
Anon it would obviously make less money but there's a chance it would make a small dev team very very rich. You don't have to aim for the stars here
Something like slay the spire doesn't make even half what magic arena makes.
You can even buy the IRL paper cards for $20 what makes you think a game would let you do that
*can't
Because it wouldn't be israelites of the coast IP...
IRL you can' just print the cards you want.
Nobody is going to inspect them unless you go to a tourney or something
Legends of Runeterra was the most comically generous card game ever made
Nobody played it anyways and then it died because it wasn't making money. have a nice day, you deserve to be scammed for cards.
Eternal has a great f2p system but it's not one of the big three so nobody plays it.
Gwent is the best in that regards and yep, it's dead
>comically generous
>same shitty dripfeed system with duplicate israelitery
>still had to pay hundreds for a full collection
>but then they also put a daily purchase limit on wildcards so even whales were forced to play with shitty budget decks for weeks
more like the most comically moronic card game ever made
Right from the start they said that they wanted to throttle collection collection so people had to play what they could instead of netdecking and I checked out immediately. Netdecking is not a real problem and if you want that experience you can do actual sealed.
yeah but it plays like fricking dogshit and always had an awful meta game with a bunch of broken shit
eternal is absolutely exhausting to play or get into
its basically magic but worse with a shitload of tutorials, legitimately its like an entire hour for the initial tutorial and then nearly 8 hours of tutorials after that to unlock the stuff so you can start playing with any semblance of unlocks, its actually so fricking awful to get into it
I used to play it and was going to get back into it and h-o-l-y shit it was fricking miserable and I just gave up
then they wouldn't be popular
People have expectations of certain genres. If you sell someone a card game where you don't crack packs they will not buy it even if your system is more generous. As much as I hate it collectors are a big part of the card game audience and if you just give everyone all the cards there is nothing for them and now half your playerbase is gone.
Forge, Xmage
>WotC gets woke
>Their games go broke
>Hasbro and WotC on the verge of bankruptcy
To think this is what they have to do to sell products now.
Hasbro isn’t woke, it’s responsible for the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
How did Jesus Christ Chan Sonichu @CPU_CWCSonichu get this information....
No, gambling and collecting is a huge part of the appeal, as a strategy games they're pretty meh.
Man, why is every Massacre Girl always OP.
she's literally unplayable outside of casual edh
Yea not sure what they were thinking with this one, original massacre girl was so iconic this one is a wet noodle.
Unplayable? Dunno about that. Turning all your toughness-based removal into draw is decent for a 4/4 for 4. In formats that are actually decent and not just the moronic 'over by turn 3' bullshit anyway.
she's worse than sheoldred or archfiend of the dross in standard
she's too slow for any other 60-card constructed format
thus she's only playable in casual edh, where people play whatever
>she's worse than sheoldred
Just gonna disregard the rest of what you typed after this. No shit. There are more broken cards. Amazing.
nta but the only format where you would even consider playing her is standard and if she's trash there she's just trash
card evaluation doesn't happen in a vacuum, the fact that she's worse than sheoldred means people play sheoldred and don't play her, it's not something hard to understand
>one of biggest factors to draw people in was fricking collecting cards(other was trading them with others)
>WHY DEVS WONT MAKE GAMES WITHOUT THINGS THAR ATTRACT PEOPLE HURR DURR
I hate post gamergate Ganker so much...
Also, a lot of companies tried, both tabletop and video games ones, they all failed and went broke
Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokémon technically Digimon
There are many that are unpopular because with that sort of budget you cant run massive ad campaigns or the expensive particle effects and art. So you and others could buy one of these games and do it but it would be just you guys.
You want the art, particles, and won't know it exists without marketing pushes. Same with the other 99%
addendum
There are free with very low cost premium versions of mtg on things like untap (illegal obviously). This stuff exists but again you either dont know cuz they have no money for ads or prefer the grafix of mtg arena.
Why is Master Duel the only online card game where the cards look like cards.
Because Hearthstone. Also there are other games that have cards that look like cards, but they zero exposure.
Digital card games make no fricking sense. You have complete freedom to code anything and choose to simulate the restraints of playing with pieces of cardboard. Dumbest shit ever imagined.
From soft made lost kingdoms ages ago which had you play as a sorceress walking around a fantasy kingdom summoning spells and monsters from a deck of cards with drawing mechanics and everything.
People must want the board game sim more because grats what they run to
The random factor is addictive. So is the deck building.
But you can call them "spells" like in mtg if you want.
they r fun and it works digitally because its a simple to understand idea so people aren't confused, most DCG don't actually work like physical card games do and usually do shit that they can't
but also its WAY more fun to play a TCG with a person right fricking there in front of you and u talk shit throughout ur match and have a good time than just playing faceless opponents in ranked online
Because everyone who is building a game in that milieu is making roguelike deckbuilders instead of Netrunner clones
I just want one good Arkham Horror clone that supports online coop and have consistent updates.
Consumers like being treated like shit and play gacha or gambling for cards.
Because people in this hobby are moronic adults with no other personality trait, so they funnel their entire savings on whatever collector's bait they prefer
So it doesn't matter if to play at a 8 people tournament on a Saturday afternoon has a barrier of entry that costs $300+, those people aren't going to do anything else with that money anyway
The adults with high $ are usually the opposite of moronic. They have a high iq job like engineer that let's them afford it.
Same reason why a expensive game if golf has above average iq=above average $
Marvel snap is the best rn
How do you fix net decking?
By having a good game
You have a rich enough card pool that it solves itself.
By having a system where people can't just craft whatever they need. You only play with what you get randomly.
You can't. The alternatives are worse. They tried to fix it with a card game called keyforge, and it fricking sucked.
get friends to play with
Drafting, a diverse enough meta that no option is viable against the entire field, or through a variety of extremely stupid decisions like fixed decklists, every card being unique, restricting player information, etc. "Netdecking" is just the natural end state of a meta maturing and having more and less powerful options. People who play to win are going to want to talk to people who also play to win, and they'll talk about what they won with.
It's also a phrase used exclusively by scrubs who feel like they lost to the opponent's cards rather than their opponent, and are looking for an excuse.
>lost to the opponent's cards
That's how most card games operate. Most half competent decks literally play themselves and you have to be actively throwing to misplay something.
Anon decks play themselves, only skill is making the deck
