Kanto & Johto fans don’t like Hoenn for being too different.
Sinnoh fans are salty that their region got a dogshit remake.
Kalos fans are salty this game is the best Gen 6 game, the best 3D era game period really.
Thats most of the board so that’s why.
in order to understand you'd have to play hg/ss after playing pokemon g/s/c
hg/ss were remakes of pokemon g/s that not only added in crystal content, but a whole plethora of other things. in dev interviews, it's stated that they were "flat-out greedy" when developing this game, and developed some very nice concepts.
then take or/as. the whole original story and lore tidbits were shafted for "dude the power of mega evolution, isn't mega evolution so good lmao" the story. they did not spend even half the effort they did on hg/ss, and that's because their director was a moron who thought games should be developed lazily because them dang kids on their phones with not enough attention span. i can at least be pleased with them letting you get a mythical pokemon naturally (deoxys) and at least it had a full dex past gen 3, and soaring was comfy but useless.
then enter bd/sp, its only benefits were being made in unity so you can mod the shit out of it, and a reverse-engineered pc release would make the entire modding community kneel
>dude the power of mega evolution, isn't mega evolution so good lmao
I agree with everything you said aside from this. The addition of mega evolution isn’t lazy and doesn’t detract from the lore. If anything, it’s a shake-up to the region that makes it somewhat fun to revisit. Stuff like the Battle Frontier and lack of new / expanded areas are shining examples of cut corners.
But if nothing else, the full national dex was available, and there were new features that (at the time) were great improvements (dexnav was a livesaver for HAs).
they are fun and have some serious improvements and nostalgia pandering, which shows the devs cared.
than there are obvious flaws like missing BF and 3 mon limit on secret bases that beg the question: why? ORAS would probably be the fav game of many more people if they just did these two things right.
Because those games are actually good, not perfect but reasonably acceptable, but 90% of /vp/ likes only KUSOGÉ tier ones due to them being a mass of blind hiveminded bootlicking homosexuals.
they thrashed the frick out of hoenn's story and lore and permanently tied kyogre, groudon, rayquaza to ThE mYsTeRy oF mEgA eVoLuTiOn so that they'll never get to stand on their own without it being brought up again, for starters. they basically retconned RSE out of existence to shill XY's gimmick at every possible opportunity, literally un-fricking-bearable to sit through. even now that i'm in my late 20s and have a much more level head about mega evolution and battle gimmicks, to this day i have no idea what people see in these games. i wanted a remake of RSE, not just XY pretending to be RSE.
>they'll never get to stand on their own without it being brought up again
but they do? no one brings up megas when talking about groudon and kyogre really.
i meant in future games. you and i both know they'll never go back to hoenn without making it about mega lore rather than the things that were already cool about hoenn. maybe you're hopeful but i'm not holding my breath.
I don't really see how it's common sense. I always associated the mega evolution in ORAS to it being a Gen 6 game, not tied into Hoenn itself. Hoenn as a region is easily separable from that, it was just the gimmick of the Gen. Had it been Sinnoh that was Rafe in Gen 6 it would have had megas instead, and had ORAS come out in Gen 7 it would've had Z-moves.
Idk, they might have the primal reversions if they ever feature Kyogre/Groudon again, but truth is at this point it's just the norm for legends to have powerful alt forms. That doesn't mean they would focus on mega evolution and not other lore.

you know what, maybe i'd benefit from having a mindset more like this. i don't think i'll ever be able to stomach ORAS themselves, but maybe they didn't scar RSE's legacy as bad as i had thought. thanks anon.
primal reversion is the same exact thing dude, and they go to extremely great lengths to associate the two in basically every story scene where either of them is mentioned - which is most of them.
For me, I just think the art direction is disgusting.
The grass looks like fuzzy clumps of mould. The colours look like they took the GBA games, cranked up the saturation but made it way too dark. Kind of the opposite problem of X/Y which was bright but washed out. For a region that was supposed to have a tropical resort feel, it doesn't feel that way at all.
They replaced most of the trees with "dark grass that you can't walk on because we say so". It completely ruins places like Petalburg Woods when there's just a couple of sparse trees every now and then. So what the frick is blocking out the sun? If the issue was polygon count there are ways around that. After all, there's only one camera angle. Every tree doesn't need to be fully modeled, just look at gen 4. Then again, they can't even put two Pokemon on-screen at once without tanking the framerate, so why would I expect anything different.
The cave wall texture they used is abhorrent and trypophobia inducing. Many of the HUD elements have very obvious JPEG artifacting for some reason. The textures are all pixellated and low res, but that was a problem in all the 3DS Pokemon games.
Honestly, if they didn't frick up the graphics so bad I wouldn't be so put off by them. The gameplay is... Pokemon. It's acceptable. Even if it didn't quite live up to Emerald a decade earlier.

You forgot the Hoenn fans who hated the choices of the remakes (No battle frontier)
Because it didn't carry over the changes introduced by emerald.

ORAS is all very blocky. It feelt like minecraft.
I hate how ugly they are
