Video games can't tell compelling, mature stories like literature or cinema can.

why not both, you see that you cant merge them correctly (see rdr2) so leave games for fun gameplay, also games are mostly used by children and teenagers unlike movies and books

    >Why are video games looked down on compared to books and moves when video games can do everything books and movies can plus way more?
Unironically because they've got a cognitive deficit. Video games used to be viewed as something only nerdy poindexters were into which meant you needed to be considerably more intelligent to experience and troubleshoot them as opposed to a book, which requires nothing of the reader but the ability to read. They don't even have to have a high level of reading comprehension. Movies require even less of someone, as it just requires a single click or button push.

Why are they looked down upon? Because video games are a toy, a Nintendo is a toy, a Playstation is a toy, an Xbox is a toy. Didn't used to be completely filled with toys, as PC's did not used to be user friendly. Used to require shitloads of money and intelligence to fully appreciate and enjoy games made for people with functional brains instead of midwits, but with the advent of social media and continual streamlining process, the barrier of entry for intelligence has become grossly oversimplified.

Video games are in the same place as modern comic books now.

they really can't though, unless you're actively just inserting a shitload of cutscenes and just have the players sit there watching.

Video games have different things they can do that movies and video games can't but instead most AAA games just end up being kinda shitty movies. Video games suck ass at telling a traditional linear narrative because it requires gameplay. The story can't just happen there has to be mechanics where the player does stuff which can get in the way of traditional linear storytelling.

Videos games though, are good at creating certain emotions through player involvement. Scary games are often more scary because whether the character dies or not is something you control. Certain games are good at creating a real sense of exploration, which is something difficult to accomplish in traditional linear narratives. Games can make the player feel smart by figuring out puzzles and looking for clues.

This. Video game soundtracks are the best way to demonstrate it. They can't be composed the same way as movies because certain sections and tracks have to be designed to repeat in order to account for gameplay time.

It's a younger form of media. Give it time, like say, until a couple of years after you die.
