JRPGs are basically the original 'movie games.' The Nibelheim flashback sequence in FFVII for example is essentially 40 minutes of just walking and talking to NPCs.
>we need the model of a little girl for this segment >sure >but we need you to hit all the EGS mandated marks >Um...sure.
1 hour later >Wtf? That is just a midge with a wig >But it hits all the EGS checkboxes >...
Metal Gear was one of the first things for a Movie like experience, even though you had to play the game and have fun. Then Last of Us added more to this, but actively making it easier for the player to play and people thought it was revolutionary. So this has caused a massive wave of everybody wanting to make a really hands free experience that is more "cinematic" due to how well The Last of Us did with bringing in newbies to console gaming outside of multiplayer games.
>Why are video games movies now?
Older players struggle with learning new things and adapting, and their motor skills deteriorate, so interactive entertainment becomes difficult. In order to appeal to as many players as possible, AAAA games must cut back on the interactive elements in games.
why not just play old ones then
Because you morons bought the Metal Gear games
because a disturbingly large percentage of the population don't like having agency of any kind
everyone liked baldur's kino 3 though
PC players loved it and it made a lot of money.
Nobody bought the game on consoles.
>PC """""players"""""
>implying baldurs gay 3 is a game
>implying PC players are people
PC """""players"""" put the PC in NPC
literally me. Thinking make me head hurt X3
idk
That entire webm is gameplay tho
Sure, not GOOD gameplay, but it ain't a cutscene either
so trve!
jesus christ
Can be skipped?
no 😉
Embarrassing
The exposition of the US president in MGS2 absolutely mogs this in length.
it's padding designed to waste your time in absence of actual gameplay
Every JRPG has sequences like that but 10x longer and 100x the frequency though

it's part of a puzzle moron
Just a way to hide loading times, isn't it?
You are missing brain cells
>walking sim is gameplay
Having control of your character while in the process of completing a puzzle is gameplay, yes.
Fricking Zero Dawn had me play as a dicky for 15 minutes for absolutely no reason
>Zero Dawn had me play as a dicky
I think you meant to say an ugly bobble-headed freak of nature.
Yeah that's how real little girls look like
>we need the model of a little girl for this segment

>but we need you to hit all the EGS mandated marks
>Um...sure.

failed movie directors view video games as the last resort option
there are quite a few failed movie directors
they realized it's the only way for their work to be appreciated as art
they bent the knee to ebert
was this meme originally made for MGS4? I can't remember it's been so long
Western games are not RPGs and should excel beyond that.
Unironically started the trend with MGS.
This is why gamers will never be taken seriously. You all just want MUH GAMEPLAY instead of experiencing an actual good story
The best written games also have gameplay behind them, i.e. deus ex, soul reaver, VTMB. Only hacks hide behind your excuse.
DMC3 is a better story than Last of Us
Forgive me for wanting my car to drive rather than toast bagels.

everything sucks, people are stupid
Westedn devs are desperate to be taken seriously by Hollywood and co., soillennials eat it up because their idea of profundity is endless cinematics.

>blaming older players
hilarious, zoomers are the ones eating movie games up, not old gamers.
