Boost gates pretty cancer and I know exactly what you're talking about.
I like the idea of boost gates, but they definitely feel a little overtuned. I bet they're easier to get through without items on Gear 3 and that's why they feel so fricked on Normal.
I hate that boost gates of all things have hitstop.
Everytime I go through a shortcut I briefly question whether or not I mistimed it and the game thinks I'm not boosting.
If only there had been a wonderful sonic racing game constructed by reskinning a car racing game and adding some glue and sovl, with an excellent PC port made 20 years ago which still can function with modern Windows in compatibility mode which uses ring management to open gates to optional shortcuts with collectibles which unlock things across multiple tracks and multiple races, and made the boost its own important, but separate and optional element tied to the same ring currency so you could spend less time getting stuck on hills or unable to proceed and more time trying to go fast and collect as many rings as possible and make strategic choices on how to spend those rings to make laps more fast and collect things and still win so you can actually keep the collectibles for the metagame, and the music were also good

The majority of the small squares are literally just colors and music. For some reason every single spray can you collect and music CD from the Prison minigame has its own square. If you want to clear out a bunch of shit quickly just go grab spraycans with a 1v1 race against an easy bot so it lets you change what items are in the item pools.
I actually like this game but it's too much of a pain to unlock characters.

I think the "ringdata" file is basically the save file, because I replaced it with another one I found and had almost everything unlocked

If there was just a few secret characters with hard requirements and the rest just randomly trickled in every 2 or 3 races that'd be fine. But this is way too much effort.

Pretty much every single character unlock has a one-and-done condition. Once people get those listed out there won't be any grind at all.
I said "Pretty Much" for a reason. There are some stupid ones in there, but the Chao Keys exist for a reason.
That being said, I wonder if you could cheese that one out by sitting in that part of the tutorial with the spot that gives you infinite rings and just taping down the ring boost button so you keep spending them.

THESE are fricking moronic, though, but I think the cope is that the character it asks for is usually the rival of whatever character it wants you to play for the achievement.
I wouldn't mind the time trial/mystic melody unlocks if they didn't first require unlocking something else.
The mystic melody one is pretty easy to get because it's literally just hidden in The Ark course.

Pretty sure that's a bug, I was able to unlock a big panel by keying adjacent panels.

for example, if an achievement is

Ring Boosting and the post-grand-prix Emerald chases are fantastic.
I also like the unlock system, though I wish the challenge board wasn't clogged up with paint since there's some ocol stuff in there.
mine probably would be the trick and quick fall very fun to use and the start of the race sonic riders mechanic its fun af pushing people into a fault

I can handle Normal difficulty fine, but even still I often see the AI just crash into obstacles, fumble a stage gimmick, or just burn rubber on a steep hill, only to force a respawn after I pass that just jets them right behind me.
The game really is so bad it can't even play itself without cheating.

I think it's disingenuous to claim that there are devs or shills in these threads. The game is trending on Twitter and normalgays are learning about something and just dogpiling on the same three complaints:

I hate to say it because I literally was responsible for a lot of the initial backlash but a lot of these people are just not engaging with mechanics. The first two hours of Ring Riders fricking sucks, but then it clicks sometime around Spring Cup. At least for me it did
In the brief moments that aren't filled with gimmicky shit, it's almost as fun as a properly-modded SRB2K server. The problem is that's maybe 30% of a race on average.
