It was a perfect media device that was forgotten about faster than the media it displayed.

No, waiting for a rewind fucking sucked among other things. It was okay and quickly vastly outclassed.

Many zoomers grew up in the 2000's when VHS tapes were sold alongside DVDs so they're technically the last generation that grew up with them

They're jealous that they didn't live in the greatest generation ever: the 1990s.

They don't remember how shit it actually was. It's just "aesthetic" to them.
    >have a movie you like, and now the tape is destroyed because the player just decided to eat it
Yeah, great. "peak soul" right there.
We all just threw those things away when DVD came out for no reason at all.

my family kept a VCR until ~2010 and I don't recall it ever eating tapes
      was it really that common?

        Anonymous

I remember a few of my families recorded tapes getting eaten but we never had a movie tape getting eaten for some reason. Probably because recording tapes saw more use.

No, that is very rare, I had tons of VHS with recorded cartoons as kid, playing them many times and I think only once the VRC destroyed one of them and maybe because the tape was bad

Not really. The only time it would was if the VCR or the tape was on its last legs.

They only eat tapes if your kids have already given them some knives and forks to eat them with.

Never happened to me and i used tons of vhs recorders and players. I lost a lot of audio tapes to all sorts of players though.

Never happened. Our player was cheap shit and most of our tapes were second hand. Maybe specific models had a problem but it wasn't common.

I've only had it happen once and it was because the tv itself was faulty.

Uncommon for a tape to get eaten from the VCR malfunctioning. It's not super rare in very late cheap models like those 10" VCR/TV combos but most cases I would bet were done from someone, probably a kid, trying to pull the tape out without ejecting it.

A lot of them remember what video tape looks like but never using it themselves. So it's a curious thing to them.

Because they aren't zoomer game devs. The oldest zoomers are only 25-26 right now. What makes you think they run the whole industry already?

I watched a movie on VHS two nights ago for the first time in 10 years, it sucked ass and the signal degradation does not add "sovl" to the experience.

Reminder: SOVL=thing I grew up with. Gankerirgins will even try to convince you that shit like memory cards and cartridges were "sovl"
