Just because people lazily rip off Tolkien doesn’t mean you have to.

Why would you allow others to control YOUR world

      Anonymous

Even Tolkien can't control his world anymore and Aragorn, Gandalf, and other characters who were once Aryan chads are now the blackest nigs drunk on purple drank and glutted with fried fowl demanding gibs and to know whereupon all the white elves.

Aside from the dwarves being a metaphor for israelites with Smaug and their mountain kingdom, the way they act, look, and what their expertise is are all taken verbatim from Germanic folklore.

        >The Dwarfs are also normal human height if not taller
Then why call them dwarfs in the first place? At least TES gives an explanation.

They are all magical abhumans, differences between them are thin and arbitrary. Basic High Elves and basic Dwarves are usually similar to popculture vision of Tolkien species, Dark Elves and donut steel races are usually as different from basic Elves as Helves are from Dwarves. Naming convention is fricking with your perception.

Halflings are magical abhumans that are always pointless from narrative and gameplay point of view.

      Abhuman? Do you mean subspecies?
      Abhumans are a 40k thing.

        Anonymous

Abhumans, semihumans, humanoids, doesn't really matter. Difference between Dwarf and High Elf aren't big. Dwarf is already a humanoid magical being, of an ancient race, master craftsman, but living in mountains. Dwarfs are made out of this same cloth as elves. Adjective elves are another iteration of magical semihumans. Complaining that "Dwarfs" don't get iterated upon like "Elves" is dumb, because they do. "Dwarfs" are Elves, they are underground elves, it's this same shit.

Because they almost always pale in comparison and come off as shoddy. Essentially if you deviate from an idea, the new idea's quality will be compared with the original's, and all too often the new ideas come off as inferior. You're essentailly asking someone to make something comparable to Tolkien or the myths and legends that he drew inspiration from. That's a high bar to reach.

They haven't stayed Tolkein-esque at all.
Tolkein's dwarves were Semitic influenced, modern dwarves are more Scottish than anything.
Halflings as con-artists and rogues is very distant from them as hobbits.

  19. 7 months ago

They are allowed, but most people forget about these races because they're not as marketable/sexy as elves. You never see much about Dwarf or Halfling women so no writers make up whole subcultures to justify their kinks.
