I've dropped a lot of games but the one that always comes to mind first is Xenoblade Chronicles 1.
Too long and the combat sucks.
I'm sure the story gets """good""" eventually but I was 40 hours in and STILL getting fricking tutorials. Frick that shit.
Shit that people complain about was in games 20 years ago, but today there's such a big huge emphasis on them. Major reason for the resentment is the surrounding media making a big, artificial deal out of it. >Finally some representation for women and PoC!
Back then the only people who worked in games were people who LIKED video games. Unfortunately Uncharted 2 but especially The Last of Us turned it into a hobby for normies.

I hate listening to Nathan Drake chatting to his friends because developers were scared an area would seem too boring if it was pure gameplay letting me explore and climb around, solve puzzles, etc
Too many characters chat to themselves now
It's particularly egregious because I want to talk to myself while I game and the characters will interrupt me
I absolutely despise the trend of characters never shutting the frick up in modern games. They all assume the common audience are ADHD-riddled children who will drop the game instantly if someone isn't dangling keys in front of them, like those videos that will have mobile game footage on the side to keep their attention since their dopamine receptors are completely burned out at age 12. And even if they might be right, it needs to fricking stop. I can't stand that shit. Just let me be immersed in the game for ONE MINUTE without whedonism writing just shitting up the atmosphere.
people who play video games for the stories should pick a different hobby but won't because other hobbies aren't nerd chic enough and don't have the same sized communities

nudoom could used some story nu doom is boring as frick.
Get fricked
Nudoom is packed full of story and it's the dumbest gayest shit ever
pic related, it's an alien disguised as an angel disguised as a robot disguised as elon musk
Isn't a bit weird how she was completely absent from promotional material for the Uncharted movie and how the studio credited Neil Druckmann as the series creator?
Even worse >beat game >ERM THAT WAS THE NORMAL ENDING GO DO A BUNCH OF BULLSHIT TO GET THE TRUE FINAL BOSS!!!
Valkyrie Elysium did this to me and I unistalled it instantly
>make every fricking game open world >stuff it with asscreed collectibles and litter the map with bullshit >bloat the game to 100+ hours >"uhh wtf why is everyone ignoring the story missions"
The last Yakuza game I played came to a complete halt as soon as I unlocked the casino and arcade. I would load the game, play some poker and Virtua Fighter, and then quit having made zero progress. I don't like jumping back into the middle of a story after abandoning a game for a long time, and they managed to create that feeling in the game itself.
If people will spend dozens of hours to watch flavour of the month like Stranger Things or crap like The Walking Dead then they will spend dozens of hours to play a game if they are engaged by it, don't make excuses lady
It's simple honestly. The beginning of games are the most fun part. Then they get boring. Developers are relying on cinematics and stories to carry people through games when traditionally more game mechanics get people through games.
Most games have terrible stories compared to books or film or even television. There's basically no reason to play a game for it's story.
Before you post, Disco Elysium does not have a good story.
Western Story >"OH AMAZE BALLS" >"FRICKITY FRICK FRICK" >the dialouge is off the tops reddit with a passive agressive undertone >full of swear words and make the characters say "frick" in every sentence >because they are still mentally stuck as children and think swearing = adult >story is some soap box standing were they interject their political beliefs like its some esoteric knowledge >masonic symbolism everywhere >main character always uses sympathy to win battles >villain is usually a chad and their motives are "correct" to a rational mind >because they impose their child bully into the villian >but they are EVIL because the writer chose to make them evil >supporting characters are flat jokes >main character is always a self insert of the writer >women writers always make the main characters themselves >they are scared of being wrong so they make every bit of dialogue into a ironic statement because they fear criticism >the whole story is a sit com paradoy with shoehorned drama
Nip story >MC is average working joe >or the MC is a real character >supporting cast have big breasts >gnostic esoteric symbolism scattered throughout the lore of the game >MC current life is set off balance by a god >MC seethes so hard that he goes out to kill god >MC goes on a journey get harem to defeat god >MC defeats gods and retires to frick his harem
Cool. Now pull of the stats of how many people watch all episodes of a TV show.
Better yet: how many people finish books they start? How many people even start books they buy?
The unengaged aren't worth engaging with. Let them consume passively, that's what they want. You'll spoil everyone's good time trying to pull them into a place they don't want to be.
I don't care about stories anymore
I feel like that might be a "me" problem but I can't deny that at the emotive level I am just getting fed up with "writers care about writing and think writing is cool"
I recognize that the me from a decade ago would have thought this monstrous, that "stories are why humanity matters" or whatever, yet I have organically become the curmudgeonly old villain from any story who grabs the book off the kid and tells him that nonsense doesn't matter
It feels like it happened entirely against my will
cause they're not engaging enough stories to distract me from noticing the terrible gameplay
I have only dropped 3 games my entire life
I know for the most part what I'm getting into before I play it and 2 of the 3 games I dropped I borrowed
>I know for the most part what I'm getting into before I play it
homie psychic over here
The more I play games the more I drop them honestly.

>Amy Hennig
Back when it wasn't a problem seeing a female direct a video game. Proof that it's not women who are the issue but ESG

Gee, I wonder why.

maybe because it sucks
I just 56%ed DKC3 and beat the game 🙂
>56%
>beat the game
Yup 🙂
This was solved in the 90's and yet companies seem to not understand that games should be gameplay first.

Normalgays play to kill some time. They don't care about vydia.
What makes you think they did before?
Maybe your movie game isn't as good of a movie or game as you believe.
This homie shitting on Fellowship of the Ring, beat he ass!
If I don't want to finish a game I'm not going to.
Even worse

they arent finishing stories because these frickers keep writing shit like forspoken
Western Story
>"OH AMAZE BALLS"
>"FRICKITY FRICK FRICK"
>the dialouge is off the tops reddit with a passive agressive undertone
>full of swear words and make the characters say "frick" in every sentence
>because they are still mentally stuck as children and think swearing = adult
>story is some soap box standing were they interject their political beliefs like its some esoteric knowledge
>masonic symbolism everywhere
>main character always uses sympathy to win battles
>villain is usually a chad and their motives are "correct" to a rational mind
>because they impose their child bully into the villian
>but they are EVIL because the writer chose to make them evil
>supporting characters are flat jokes

why aren't developers finishing their games anymore?
baldurs gate 3 was a slog and I got bored, wrap it up c**ts
Amy was channeling some divine source for the LoK series
Nothing she's done has even been in sight of that zenith
I don't care about stories anymore

If I'm not liking a game while playing it I'll quit, I have plenty of other stuff to play that I know I'll enjoy.
I didnt even finish Elden Ring lady, you dont stand a chance
