It could be done right, but only if it doesn't devolve into weird shit like this.

It's a terrible medium for trying to share a story found footage style, you'd need to actually need to bullshit found footage.

Yeah, some of these torture star games are pretty solid.
I turn down the lights and use headset of course, and they're mostly enjoyable.

Only "disappointment" was Search Party, which was fun enough but simply not scary.

They're just the right length (2 hours tops), use both atmosphere and jump scares, and tend to finish with an intense confrontation.
          Formulaic and effective.

because people figured out that when you die in the game you don't die in real life

Old horror games weren't scary. Go back and play them. Clock Tower, SH, RE, they're not scary. SH2, Ganker's baby, is one of the least scary horror games ever made. It's practically a supernatural drama

Scariest game ever made is Darkwood.

I stopped being terrified of anything when I just imagined having a gun in everything. I can lucid dream so even my worst nightmares I can just imagine a gun and absolutely wreck anything in my way. If I can't do that I can immediately wake myself up. I like to imagine a part of my subconscious absolutely seething at not being allowed to scare me
