GT was ugly, because of the shitty color palette, overall poor character designs, and cringe music.
Also, nobody wanted Kid Goku to return. That's what Goten was there for. But putting Goten aside, Pan fulfilled the cute kid role. It was simply *too* weird to have kid goku and Pan working side by side. In order to differentiate Pan from Goku, they had to make her more practical and savvy to contrast Goku's childishness. So Pan suffered from a little it of Lisa Simpson Syndrome. Where she ends up being kind of a nagging little know it all.
So you have a bad aesthetic, on top of bad character dynamics, where you're not sure who the main character is supposed to be. And it makes for a bad show. Meanwhile, in Super, Beerus and Wise are INSTANTLY iconic. Super Saiyan Blue is far more aesthetic. Goten and Trunks fulfill their roles as rambunctious kids. The nag character is relegated by Bulma, as it should be. And Goku is clearly still the lead, carrying the plot forward. It just works.

Not that it's very important how much they're used. The point is that the roles of the characters make sense to the audience. *IF* in the case that they wanted feature rambunctious children, then they should use actual children characters, rather than forcing Goku to revert back to a child. Which nobody really wanted. We were all fine with Goku's growth as a character. In fact, that's one of the legitimate criticisms about Super. Is that Goku's growth is sort of undone in Super. Which sucks. But at least it's not as bad as it was in GT.

But not equally. In Super Goku's growth-reversal is not as bad. He makes a few questionable decisions, but he's still a likeable guy. And it's not merely that the enemies are larger, it's that the themes of the story are a little different. Where in the past, Goku is mostly dealing with good guys and bad guys. But in Super, the morality is a little more gray. How can you say the gods are good or bad? They're the custodians of a universe. And it's their job to create and destroy. With a character like Beerus who erase portions of a whole universe without sweat, and it's his JOB to do so, what exactly do you say to someone like that? "Grr, don't destroy earth, because that's evil!" Like, really? Goku has to navigate a tricky social and power dynamic that can't be easily fixed by just getting angry and powering up. But nobody gives Goku credit for making friends with the ruler of all universes. Or getting on the good side with the destroyer of worlds. No. They just blame him for putting the earth into danger, as if Goku had ANY control over that matter. The best move Goku could make, was to give earth a fighting chance to avoid destruction.

SSJ4 is the only good design in GT. But 1 good design doesn't excuse all the other bad ones. But even so, SSJ4's design is held back by a poor color choice, like the majority of GT was. Goku's mustard yellow pants does not go with his magenta colored fur, blue waistband, and green-blue wristbands. And let's not even talk about Vageta's cringy leather pants version.
And who does SSJ4 go up against? Super Baby. Just everything about Super Baby's design is butt-fricking-ugly. Nobody wants to see that guy on screen for long term.
You might not like that SSJB is a mere recolor, but at least the colors look good together. That blue and orange match, and it makes Goku look cool when he zips around. Vageta also got a redesign, that is super underrated. They perfectly updated him from that 90's football pad armor, into something that looks sleek and form fitting, while still retaining some of that space armor flare. But obviously, the blue hair matches his attire too.
Color palette is incredibly important to character design. And I'm tired of you "braindead shit eater" pretending that it's not. Pointing out that transformations are basically just hair color changes, doesn't make you smarter than anyone. It's just the Dunning–Kruger effect at work.

It's literally the only post-DBZ content besides Broly movie that almost feels like something Toriyama would draw (Toei couldn't pull it off ever again on TV), cutting corners for animation is a entirely different matter and even then GT never got called out for offensively bad frames and sequences like Super did.
The "argument" that the music was bad is also poor when it has one of the most remembered openings in anime history, not bad for a "shitty spin-off" like Supertards love to consider GT as.

I thought GT was bad when it originally aired in the US. Because I'm a 30-something millennial, and watched it on TV back in the day. It was not an enjoyable watch, and I ended up losing interest and missed a lot. But whenever I checked in again, it was ugly to gaze upon and ugly to listen to. It was an ugly show.
And sure, the artists working on it were skilled. They drew the characters well. But all that is wasted talent, when you're drawing bad character designs, and coloring them like shit, and laying over bad music. Sorry, but GT is bad in the absence of Super. So to then try to use a bad show to shit on Super makes no fricking sense to me.

Dragon Ball is about on equal footing with Z. There's some truly bizarre shit like Goku apparently being most comfortable with his head on his grandpa's bare crotch, but the world feels truly fantastical, the characters are fun and have soul, and the quality is the most consistent out of all the anime. Unfortunately a lot of the runtime is stuff like Muscle Tower where it's good, but it's nobody's favorite bit. Z by contrast has all the best moments in the franchise. Goku versus Frieza is the true peak, that shit is pure art. It's just too bad that is comes at the end of the Namek saga, which feels forever long and introduced the most moronic and ridiculous power level arms race. For every Galick Gun clashing with X4 Kaioken, for every Father-Son Kamehameha, for every Final Explosion, there's just a ton of shit you have to wade through that you really don't want to. GT is not in the same tier as them but has enough merit and charm to warrant the whole 20 hours you'd spend with it and has good ideas even if they were executed awkwardly. Super is just trash. There is so incredibly, pathetically little that Super does right that it actively detracts from the overall franchise just by existing. I have as more respect for Dragon Ball Heroes than I do for Super and that shit is dumbass fanfic even to Mexicans
