Nope. MGS4 on PC is fully playable and has been for a good while. Completed it myself that way without any issues. It's a far better experience than the PS3 version thanks to 60fps.
I already have the HD collection on Xbox and can emulate the games on PC with upscaled textures if I want to, so I don't see the point. It's not like the money will be going to Kojima to fund whatever thing he's doing next anyway.
If there's a "Volume 2" with MGS4 and Peace Walker I'd be interested, though.

The difference is that these newly released ports, while Legacy was a bundle of already released 2008 and 2011 titles on PS3.

That's not what I meant. I mean that MGS2HD and 3HD for PC, PS5 and Switch are newly released games, as they were never on these platforms and Konami specifically had to port them now.
As for Legacy, MGS4 and MGS HD Collection were old games at that point. They were respectively released in 2008 and 2011, while Legacy was released in 2013. Legacy was a bundle of already released games, which could be purchased for even cheaper second handed.
You can already play all of these on PC with more content, there's nothing to be excited about really. The only benefit is MGS3 will run at a constant frame rate I guess, and maybe that there will be ultrawide or 144hz support but I kinda doubt that it will come natively.
I am as excited as anyone else whose played and beaten all those games 15 years ago. I'll pick it up to 100% again, at least im happy for all the zoomers getting into this series properly now instead of MGS5

Guy Savage (MGS 3 Nightmare level) is on a different engine than the rest of MGS 3 so that's why it wasn't included in the HD remasters for PS3 and Xbox 360 and Vita, so I highly doubt it will be included with these "new" versions if the theory that theyre the exact same rings true.

Only the gist of them is important, not the actual games. Playing them just fills you with more questions, like "whatever happened to Holly White? Whatever happened to the Oilix? Whatever happened to (...)"
These two games could simply not exist and it wouldn't affect the story of the rest of the games at all, as they already tell you everything you need to know about what happened in them. And the reason Kojimbo never made proper remakes/retellings of those events is that he never made a game that directly dealt with events we already knew about.
It was pretty clear that Peace Walker, Ground Zeroes, and the Phantom Pain were building towards MG1 and 2 remakes to come full circle. It's a damn shame he didn't get that far. That being said, it was absolutely his fault for being fired.

the levels were not designed with first person aiming in mind
they added it because it was a feature in MGS2 without any regard to whether or not it would break the game (protip: it does, it makes it trivially easy to clear out entire areas with the tranquilizer gun, which wasn't in the original game either)

MGS1 runs awfully on original hardware and on console emulation, it quite often dips below 30 fps, especially in FPV
I'd recommend emulating MGS1 on Duckstation and overclocking the ps1 cpu to 200%, this is as easy as dragging a slider, it ensures you get a constant 30 fps.

the OG pc port is janky and basically hacked together. The team behind it literally pirated the soundtrack for the original to insert it into the port, the music doesn't even loop correctly. There's so many more things wrong with it that the ps1 version definitely feels like the correct way to play it

Remakes and remasters are fine and all but they are supposed to supplement actual new games. Its very hard to say "MGS is back!" when its games we've already played.

Portable Ops deserves a full Remake more than Snake Eater tbh. SE still plays perfectly fine, PO on the other hand has a great atmosphere and story but the gameplay is dogshit despite a lot of great ideas.

It's real ironic how they always beg for them to remake 9-10/10 games which can still be played if they want to. What would make sense is remaking games which had a great concept but fell short, or remaking something from 2D to 3D. I predict that the steam versions will definitely have mods that improve upon the collections shortcomings. The biggest question from me is what will MGS1 look like? Will it be just like the PS1 version with all the jitter? Or will the rendering be revamped with the correct geometry coupled with texture smoothing?

People always say that first person aiming in TTS breaks the game.
How so though?
The layout of Shadow Moses was kept mostly in tact. It was designed around being a top down shooter with limited aiming and movement and where your field of view is only as big as the screen. A lot of the areas are wide open as a result.
First person lets you see most of the guards and tranq them from a huge distance, so you're rarely at risk of being discovered. MGS2 got around this by having much more segmented and/or vertically designed rooms, with platforms, blocked railings, etc, but it was also designed with that POV in mind.
The areas are so open you can just pop in first person mode and put everyone to sleep without ever even going near them.
It also allows you to defeat bosses like Ocelot and Raven by just standing still and spamming headshots while they do nothing.

Adding new event triggers to old games is a pain that devs will not have time or effort for. They will be desperately rushing to just get game mostly functional in time for release. It’s why 99% of re-releases put trophies on things that already have a definitive action or reward when you do them, it’s easy to plug in “activate trophy now” on a flag that’s already set to activate once a bunch of conditions are met.
I imagine MGS1 will be bunch of story trophies, including both endings, maybe getting some of the funny hidden codec calls, or using box to fast travel. Maybe difficulty trophies. But I don’t think game has ability to track any interesting stuff.
