an obvious use case for skins
ensures that game developers can't keep releasing more skins
that they can't distribute to their friends
allows them to be traded freely
and to exist forever (may have some sentimental value like baseball cards)
the idea is not to put a whole game on the blockchain but just parts that benefit from verifiable and trusted validation
here's some good chainlink gaming hopium:

because the current crop of garbage isnt gonna pump on new usecases or at least minimally so
thats the whole problem with nfts
unironically the best investment if you believe gaming will take off is eth and link
any succesful game made by a real studio isnt gonna buy egold on the open market they will either make their own inhouse chain which you cant buy early and only serves to enrich the studio owners or they use public chains
in the latter event you could buy their skins early but again none of the current crapprojects will pump because of it

anyone remember those jpegs of words that were shilled last cycle and never even delivered a game lol

      Anonymous

Definitely not link or eth, normies are not gonna buy eth just to play a game, it has to be free with the choice to export your nft. Thats why immutablex’ implementation will win in the long run

all you really need is an ingame currency that is free float tradeable against btc and via proxy of cex thus against usd for a legit game
there will develop a natural market from that point, the only issue is if the devs start to milk it to death
just imagine eve online with its own preferably hard capped crypto ingame
it would be fun to watch

If crypto gaming really works and takes off, we could see the entire gaming industry undergo a giant revolution. All these giant companies pumping out moronic shit from diversity hires who killed all the neet based indie studios that actually made good games won't be required anymore. I’m a game dev. The reason no good crypto games will ever exist is that a good game makes a ton of money from normal credit card purchases so there is no reason to introduce the legal risks and technical headaches of crypto to that equation.

On top of that, and most people don’t really appreciate this, cryptocurrencies are worthless without aggressive, legally dubious promotion behind them. Real devs who have options won’t stoop to that because they are not worthless subhumans so the choice between normal monetization and crypto is even more obvious.

Onchain gaming is moronic and decentralization is a joke. The only merit to crypto in gaming is programmability, in the form of an optional way to export rare game items as nfts. Crypto basically allows game devs to copy and paste their own steam marketplace that can be up and running in hours instead of having to build out the backend and security aspects manually.

The problem with crypto games is that the devs are way too fricking greedy. These motherfrickers are out here trying to sell skins for hundreds of dollars. Would you pay hundreds of dollars for a skin in fortnite or overwatch or whatever game? No, you wouldn’t, and neither would the people who already spend money on such things. What the devs should be doing is making the base price for this stuff like 2 bucks a pop, then when supply runs out, the market for those items runs itself and the devs can take a cut of every transaction. They should be giving some of this stuff away for free too. For example, let’s say you earn loot boxes by playing the game for a certain amount of time, completing challenges, getting points, whatever, you all know how it works. Then, you’ve got your rarities that might be like grey=common blue=uncommon gold=rare legendary=purple. All they have to do is make the purple skins/sprays/tags/whatever NFTs that they literally give away in loot boxes. This is what’s going to make people want to play these games. This shit costs like nothing to mint, so they spend a little to make a lot. People who don’t care about skins are gonna be like “sweet! I pulled legendary, I’ll just offer it for like 10 cents below market price and it’s free money!” People who pay money for skins and loot boxes are gonna be like “sweet! This guy is offering this skin at 10 cents below market price! I’m gonna buy that shit!” And of course, all of this stuff should have a limited supply. Put half in the in-game store and half in loot boxes to prevent people from scalping and there ya go. You now have an economy where people actually trade your shit. On top of all this, of course, the game needs to actually be good. There are basically three types of games where these things are going to work: competitive online games (read: shooters), MMOs, and gacha. The easiest one of these games to make is gacha. You can have AI do like 99.9% of the work for you.

      Anonymous

But yeah, this shit is so braindead simple I have no idea how these crypto game devs haven’t figured it out yet. Probably, they know that they have no idea how to make a good game so they sell this overpriced garbage to speculators and then just give up on the whole project. If you’re a crypto game dev and you’re reading this, take notes. This is what the people want.
