This, after my friend has dragged me for 60 hours through Heavensward from Realm Reborn, I just genuinely don't care about the world, any of the characters, or any of the plot lines. Worse is I don't prefer multiplayer games generally, and MMOs all the more so.

I was getting back into Bozja again recently since that's the only relic I haven't completed.
I got to a step where I have to either do FATEs in dead zones or queue for alliance raids that take forever to pop even though they're part of the current Moogle Treasure Trove event.
I'm told it's a step you only have to do once and I'm sure I could grind FATEs out quickly but it still killed my enthusiasm for it.
The only other things I have left to do are orders of magnitude more autistic, like completing the fishing log, and I'm not interested in doing things like that at the moment.

HW AST, the best and most fun one had a skill that could increase buff times up to 2 mins

goad was a cross class skill that gave people a bit of tp, they also had manashift which would donate mana instead

AST and SMN still played like that in SB, THOUGH. Also the class ability shit wasn't as homogenized in SB. Tanks didn't get arms length, having goad was sometimes worth it, don't remember if repose was given to all healers, tanks had more options, etc.

going from HW to SB really made the simplification of jobs noticeable, but most people that started in sb wouldn't notice, and shb babies and foward will never understand how satisfying it was to just stunlock something for 2 mins, or mess up TP usage of melees

I've been playing the game almost every day for the past year and a half, it's good to have a break or you're just gonna get burned out (which I've experience already prior to Shadowbringers), so you can come back invigorated with new goals instead becoming a bitter doomposter because all you play and think about is a single video game.
It's not like all I do is raid either, but I've been playing so long that I'm largely caught up on other things the game has to offer too. I've got all the big fish, I have a maxed out racing chocobo, I've got every obtainable minion, I've got my DoH/DoL relics, I've done Eureka and DRS, and I've solo'd DDs. I've probably experienced and completed more facets of the game than the people who b***h about there being "nothing to do" have.

Prior to two months ago or so (when the static collectively decided to wind down), I had a bigger impetus to take care of my dailies, was actually raiding and was doing whatever else took my fancy.
The plan's to frick about in Ultimates some time after the next patch drops. At the very least, I know I'll be doing the next Criterion Savage with the boys who are interested, but besides that I guess I'll chip away at old relics when I feel like it or farm mounts when I feel like it. Feeling like a one man army in my full elemental gear when Eureka becomes accessible to the trial players will probably be fun too.

anon the boss fights are basically over extended dances where the real challenge is keep sane while you see the same mechanic over and over, just so you can see another 30 secs of the fight with each pull
criterion would've a good alternative IF it had rewards, and the most odd part is how people complain about the "grind" mindset being le bad, but the savage version requires you to grind 100 tokens to get the mount, which is sellable.

Yes this is a lot. Every patch you get gameplay that lasts the average player (read: not a world first racer NEET) a month for prog, possibly longer before you even get into reclears.
Players who aren't interested in hardcore content have nothing to hold them to new patches after a week at the most.

Aldenard will get unclouded for one zone in 8.0 despite being a great three continent. At this point XIV needs to simply work with what it has instead of rushing to other parts of the map. I also blame flying, we just have big empty zones instead of smaller ones that naturally fit together.

The game is designed as a theme park for FF fans to wax nostalgic about older titles and over time become fully playable as a single player JRPG when it reaches end of life. If you gated combat with HW autism, most people would drop the game.

I have literally seen FC members refuse to touch ShB SMN because of its reputation for being "complex" when you could just mash the buttons that light up and do decent damage. It's not about objective difficulty it's about how it's perceived in casual eyes.

The current design direction around combat is to make each job rotationally simple to master so that they can focus on difficult mechanics.
The devs have said before that their aim has been make rotations more simple so there's less of a gap between the low and high end. The ironic thing is, the strictness of 2 min burst has made the gap about as wide as it was before, sometimes even wider. They were in a good spot in Stormblood besides a few genuine stinkers (WHM, MCH), but now they've dug themselves into a hole.

Idk about AST specifically but a lot of the jobs I played were pretty much the same from ShB to EW tbh. Except Paladin when that got reworked mid-expansion. I think this is why newbies don't realize how different job design was pre-ShB.
Most jobs haven't changed a whole lot since Stormblood, people fixate on the outliers of SCH/DRK/AST.
and MNK, MCH, SMN, PLD, and NIN.
People only bring up SMN to complain about it being neutered job attachment in the playerbase for it is through the roof compared to before and PLD to complain about its janky phys/mag phase transitions being scrapped for an all-encompassing FoF in line with the other tanks. MNK, MCH and NIN have nothing but positives going for them since Stormblood, Monk's gone the longest it ever has in its entire life without a full rework and people are actually playing Machinist at all these days. For a lot of fights in Stormblood there were literally no parses with a Machinist on-board, that's how dogshit it was.

Eh PvP MCH in its current incarnation is a slice of the old gunmage concept. I don't know that I would have kept it either personally.
The way MCH/BRD casts in PvP is fundamentally different than how it was in HW, which was more like how healers are now with 1.5s cast times, but I think if it were how the PvP casting works, the reception wouldn't have been as polarizing.
Thing is though, because MCH was designed around it with its combo, ammo system and gauss barrel toggling, there was a lot more room for skill expression and a very high ceiling associated with playing it well, and learning the nail that opener genuinely felt good.
Machinist felt fricking perfect in HW and they took a massive shit all over it because BRDs hated bowmage instead of keeping it as a MCH specific gimmick (which was designed around it in the first place). The way it currently plays still isn't as fun or as satisfying as it was back then.
But I don't have to look at that dogshit Gauss Barrel now, so its an objective improvement even if its otherwise worse.
As a SMN main I simply must point out that it is infinitely better now than it ever has been. Both mechanically and in visuals. The class was pure suffering before EW.

People can handle pet management just fine, the problem was they couldn't get pets working worth a pinch in this game or its engine so they more or less got scrapped. Bahamut and Eos outright had dementia in Stormblood, Shadowbringers is the only time pets mostly worked.
