There's games with better combat, but they all have terrible monetization (not that WoW's is good with the token), stuff like PSO2 for example, completely lacking in world, content and story but the combat by itself is fricking stellar, it wipes the floor with anything from Tera to BDO.
You have ESO for lore and questing, but the combat in that game is abysmal, absolute trash. You can make funny specs like Formula1 Vampire Thief sneaking at double the speed of a mount, but that's the best it has to offer, and that build is like 100h of work.
Then if you want no content, shitty story and no combat, you have a choice of GW2 or FFXIV.
And that's basically everything that's halfway relevant.
The genre is kinda dead, and shitty ass gachas have taken up the slack for it and are dominating right now.

i checked out retail for a short time recently after resubbing for hardcore classic, you'd think after so many people have left retail behind that the players remaining are all at least somewhat decently skilled or experienced, but there is something very strange about the people still playing retail WoW, they are quite literally some of the worst players i have ever had the displeasure of playing with after having played the game on and off since the end of BC
tanks will zone into a levelling dungeon and just run forward, spamming abilities that they clearly don't understand, ignoring the party when people start stripping aggro, and then spew their misguided raging in party chat saying people are "attacking before them" nobody in the party will respond or even offer advice on what they're doing wrong, nobody cares or thinks about whats going on, you will wipe several times when any boss has a mechanic you have to actually think about, like having to stun a boss or interrupt, it just won't happen, and the party will wipe, people will quietly leave and dungeon finder will fill your ranks back up with a fresh batch of morons who will all do the same thing, the zombie like way these people play the game is extremely bizarre, they are less than human
