Is that the one where you do a jump from one building to another and then there's a mech you have to fight stuck in a pit? Because there's other stuff on the upper level you jump from. Like the green keycard.
Yeah. I killed basically everything down there. Even took some pathway up to the top of the roofs and ran around up there. I have both gold and green keycards, and need red to continue. I see a gold door on the map, but seemingly no way to get to it. I'm either blind or a moron, cause I've circled this map many times now.
I'm going to grab some food in a few, but if the threads still up when I get back I'll take a few screens to show the area I was at.
Off the top of my head I remember you go into one of the side paths above where the red door and mech spawned and you follow that path until you get to this narrow ass room where there's spikes on either side, cultists besides them, and two riflewomen at the top lookin down. You platform up and the red keycard should be above the entryway you came in.
I think it's the path opposite of the gold door path? Or maybe it's the one where it's wherever going through the gold door teleports you to? Don't remember.
Red circled area was where I was trying to get. Can't seem to find a way up. Even been on the roofs. I'll look around again as I just restarted playing.
I figured it out, and I am just literally blind. Chalking it up to being hungry.

Replaying the game right now, and it's pretty cool. I just realized shoot enemies with the assault rifle's laser makes their skeleton flash and then leaves them as a charred corpse standing up. I did buy this game, and I loved it. Can't wait for the sequel. The drones that look like Demonica helmets always make me laugh when I see them. Coded Arms on the PSP is another cool Japanese FPS.
I'm playing Gal Gun Returns right now which is pretty fun. I can't think of many other worthwhile FPS put out by the Japanese. To be fair the nips are better at a bunch of genres that the west doesn't care about like fighting games and VNs, but first person shooters have the opposite situation going on.

Yeah there's a little bit of irreverent humor running through HROT but for the most part it captures the same vibe of "the world is depressing and fricked up and not even trying to make sense" as those other games.
I personally like it. A bit short atm but the dev is adding a ton of new content and I think he's actually going to pull through long-term. Fast-paced crazy game with good lore.

the shooting is the worst part of breakdown, all of the weapons besides the rocket launcher are complete shit
the first person fighting is pretty decent (there's no official combo list or anything so you make your own), but at the inputs often times just drop (at least on original hardware) which is really frustrating

Its really jank and the early game is boring as frick but once it clicks its a lot of fun. Unfortunately the horrible shooting is what drags it down but if you can stick with it its a really unique experience. I actually enjoyed the plot of all things.
It is a first person fighting game and not an FPS. The shooting portion is the weakest aspect plus the hand-to-hand is meant for one-on-one. Towards the end, you fight several big guys in a tiny room.

I'm not into guro as a fetish, but I vastly prefer the visual style of The Citadel vs something like Fallout New Vegas or other gorey western games like Mortal Kombat, etc. And that appeal is a large part of what prompted me to even try the game. Coupled with the cool gun animations, music, and setting it meshed together perfectly for me.
I'm not saying it makes the game unplayable; I played and enjoyed the game. But it's still a markedly different experience than something where the gore is just played for spectacle, and I don't hold it against someone for not wanting to play the game because of that.

When I pick up an FPS game, I expect to pick up a gun in the game and SHOOT people in the FACE until the DIE along with getting SHOT in the FACE until I DIE. Okay, Now we have Japanese FPS games; Same concept except there's usually some fat breasts or a sizeable ass flopping around, getting in the way. THIS is where the problems begin, You have two INCREDIBLE things; fat breasts & sizeable asses and you're expecting me to take my GUN that KILLS people, and shoot them, Possibly DAMAGING them. This is UNACCEPTABLE alone due to the fact I would be RUINING God's greatest gifts to mankind. You see, I would NEVER forgive myself if I did that so they must ALWAYS stay separate. You take the time out of your day to properly appreciate breasts and ass, you take time out of your day to properly shoot people in the face with a gun in a videogame.
It has a lot of fun mechanical quirks and it's got a really distinct fricked up tone, but the levels suffer from an extreme lack of asset variance and the enemies are too simple to be go far beyond beyond shooting galleries that shoot back.

Make sure you pirate the right version. Older versions can be jank and rough to play. I was uncomfortable shooting enemies at first and hearing their screams, but after a while it all just felt the same as any other FPS. Make sure to get in the giant robots when you can.

the only parts of the game that were difficult were the later bosses, and thats really only becasue they were just touhou projectile spam. the biggest issue is that leaning basically made you invisible to the enemies and their bullets were WAY too slow.

Bought it during sale. Was first put off by the somewhat slow start and guro art style, but it is over the top and arcady enough to not distract from the gameplay which does get pretty fun after unlocking more weapons, which were the highlight for me. The only thing that screwed me over were instant death/lava pits, since you almost get too much momentum and have to commit to your jumps. Also shooting while leaning seemed a bit broken.

Picked this game up on a whim.
I am really loving it so far. I'm not even a guro fan but everything else about this aesthetic is fantastic and really nostalgic to me for some reason. Never even played old doom or boomer shooters much.
I'm stuck on act three though. Can't figure out where to go. I see a hallway on the map with the door and some enemies I need get to. I have the gold keycard, but Seems theres no way to get to it. Everything else is dead on the map in the areas I can access. I wish I'd taken a screencap of the map before I took a break from playing.

I see a gold door on the map, but seemingly no way to get to it. I'm either blind or a moron, cause I've circled this map many times now.

Off the top of my head I remember you go into one of the side paths above where the red door and mech spawned and you follow that path until you get to this narrow ass room where there's spikes on either side, cultists besides them, and two riflewomen at the top lookin down. You platform up and the red keycard should be above the entryway you came in.
I think it's the path opposite of the gold door path? Or maybe it's the one where it's wherever going through the gold door teleports you to? Don't remember.

Replaying the game right now, and it's pretty cool. I just realized shoot enemies with the assault rifle's laser makes their skeleton flash and then leaves them as a charred corpse standing up. Also I never noticed how good some of the music is. Playing this makes me want to try Marathon.

It is a first person fighting game and not an FPS. The shooting portion is the weakest aspect plus the hand-to-hand is meant for one-on-one. Towards the end, you fight several big guys in a tiny room.

I'm not into guro as a fetish, but I vastly prefer the visual style of The Citadel vs something like Fallout New Vegas or other gorey western games like Mortal Kombat, etc. And that appeal is a large part of what prompted me to even try the game. Coupled with the cool gun animations, music, and setting it meshed together perfectly for me.
I'm not saying it makes the game unplayable; I played and enjoyed the game. But it's still a markedly different experience than something where the gore is just played for spectacle, and I don't hold it against someone for not wanting to play the game because of that.

Make sure you pirate the right version. Older versions can be jank and rough to play. I was uncomfortable shooting enemies at first and hearing their screams, but after a while it all just felt the same as any other FPS. Make sure to get in the giant robots when you can.

Were you playing on low difficulty settings? I put enemies aggressive on high with better awareness which made them hyper alert and constantly shooting my ass whenever I dared to peek around a corner.
i played it on medium and hard. both times it seemed like leaning gave you a pretty distinct advantage.

what difficulty settings you playing on? here's a tip stick to the right side of the map and stay close to the wall, you'll find the exit much easier

Bought it during sale. Was first put off by the somewhat slow start and guro art style, but it is over the top and arcady enough to not distract from the gameplay which does get pretty fun after unlocking more weapons, which were the highlight for me. The only thing that screwed me over were instant death/lava pits, since you almost get too much momentum and have to commit to your jumps. Also shooting while leaning seemed a bit broken.
