the only game that gave me that old soulful feel recently was Northern Journey, just because it was so obvious that a single guy poured everything into it
Pure soul, loved the environments and he did a really good job with the different zones all feeling unique.
Not too sure about his next game it feels like he went in the wrong direction making an even more combat focused game, it still looks neat though.

I think the reality is most indie devs are hacks and can't code for shit because all of that for 3D still requires physics system. The ones that can code don't really have much of an imagination, and the ones that do are stuck with making 2D. Mostly they only care about sandbox and Metroidvania shit because it's easier to do also I assume the less violent games better satisfy their woke ideals.
Because there is no longer and arms race about trying to make the best games anymore. Devs have settled on a few gameplay styles and trying to figure out how much they can squeeze people with it.
The sun setting and the lights coming on in each house was fricking awesome. Even better when you fly down there with Kaepora. You could get there in a minute or so from the gate but the distance implies it would take hours just to get to that point.
