Why can't I play any video games for longer than an hour without getting bored?

Why can't I play any video games for longer than an hour without getting bored? This used to be a lot of fun for me and I could easily lose 3+ hours in my favorite game.

The stimuli is too familiar to the all of the games you've played before. you need a novel experience, and by the sound of it, you're not getting any from any of the new, but probably samey games that you've tried.
I recommend taking a break from Vidya and doing something else.

This is the only answer. Games can't be the only thing you do, unless you have the autism to support it. And even autism has its limits.

You're craving something and games aren't hitting that sweet spot.

Maybe take up another hobby and have a brief break from vidya.

    1. Take a break if you're feeling burnt out.
    2. Try new genres, series, installments, etc of games you haven't played. People need novelty.
    3. Try to cut off other distractions like browsing the internet, etc.

    >still like game
    >but too old to enjoy games anymore
    Just start modding then

That only happens to me when I try to get into a new kind of game sometimes. Once I give it 2 or 3 tries, it clicks and I start having fun.

play a game to completion instead of jumping from game to game you're over stimulated if you cant force yourself to

I shouldn't have to force myself to find enjoyment in something. I should just enjoy it.

Thats exactly the problem dude you're trying to chase a high over and over again so you bounce between games and entertainment if you have a mindset like that you'll never fix it

    Consider this
You like the idea of playing vidya
You don't like actually playing vidya

Rotate your hobbies, dummy. Your brain will get bored of doing the same shit over and over again. I often rotate between books, TV shows, singleplayer games and competitive multiplayer games.

Learn modding. Once you know what the guts of a game look like, you'll appreciate it more and have the power to add whatever you want to it, depending on your skills.

You're jaded. Take a break for 2 months. Stop immersing yourself in everything vidya which means getting off Ganker. It's that simple. Take a break. 2 months is no time at all.

I won't play games for weeks. When I eventually do play again I'll go on for days, only stopping to eat or take a piss. Might not even sleep. After some time has gone by I'll go back to baseline and do things unrelated to gaming.

For me, it honestly comes down to what and how I eat. Being well fed and feeling content makes me way more focused and be way more concentrated than a diet of marlboros amd coffee. I thought I was just bored of vidya and all kinds of media in general but after getting my eating habits in order I've been able to just sit down and enjoy myself for a couple of hours way more.
