Might have just been spiteful kiwis. There's no denying that cops overreacted to protesters though. That's was mainly in Melbourne which is a good point you brought up, you're right about that. Victoria doesn't really reflect the rest of Australia, despite the fact that i live here i have mates who were saying their states did not really care about all the strict measures. While here Dandrews was the one overreacting.

Pandemic Studios was a co American-Australian studio. Everything the American office was working on was also coordinated with their Australian studio. Similar story with Bioshock being co-developed with 2K Australia. Similar story with Visceral games, but i can't say how influential that satellite studio was on that whole game because there was about 21 jobs at that one. Only game that was only truly independent was LA Noire. Medieval II: Total War was developed by the Australian branch of Creative Assembly, etc.

I'd play that. Only dev i know of making survival horror is from melbo, the game is called Conscript. The demo for the game is great, but when devs from here don't think to make games set in Australia i think they're missing out on doing something unique and not done often in video games. Actually going out to places and takes photos and whatnot, there's plenty of games that could visually distinct if they actually did that. Including in the rural parts of Aus.

Out of all of these I'd say Broken Roads and Conscript might be the only promising looking indie games coming out of Victoria. I'm still holding my judgement for Broken Roads because it's pretty easy to make a bad RPG. Try out the Conscript demo at least, because that one left a good impression on me. If you liked games like Devil Daggers then killbug may be worth giving a shot.

Here's an upcoming game i found from Melbourne that could either be good or bad, there's not much to go on right now because no demo available. If you're into the whole retro FPS revival then it might be worth keeping an eye on. For what it's worth when comparing it to the others, at least the developer programmed his own engine, which includes full modding tools and level editing. So it's not just another unity retro FPS #10000 guess if you care about when developers actually know how to create games from scratch with relying on a crutch. Can't say whether it will be good and it looks pretty janky, but there's that.

        >Australia rarely makes AAA games because there's a strong union here that takes workplace exploitation seriously
All AAA the studios just got shitcanned because they were expendable, 2K Australia got pretty badly exploited supposedly which led to the end of them. Only one major studio that just ran into truly bad luck was Pandemic Studios, that story is history now. That being said there's still Riot Games Sydney (formerly Wargaming Sydney Studio) and Sledegehammer Games Melbourne. Those are the only remnants of AAA left in this country, unsure of their importance as satellite studios, don't give a frick about both of those companies.

How is AI at making pixel art and will people hate me if I use it to make an rpgmaker game?

AI is incredibly bad at making pixel art.
The smaller the pixel art is, the worse it gets.

Yes, but you won't like the answer.
During world war, house prices are going to be dirt cheap because whatever you buy could be destroyed tomorrow. The closer are you to a warzone, the cheaper the housing price will be.
