I'm suprised Golden Deer is so low. Compared to how the other two houses fare Golden Deer post time skip turn out way better than the other factions.

The war is literally Empire versus Church/Kingdom, with Empire forcing the Alliance nobility to side with them, and if they don't, they're flagged as enemies of the Empire. The Alliance is a third party in the war. You are playing the third wheel if you play Golden Deer. Why would you not only willingly want that, but then so bravely say its the best of the campaigns?

Despite its questionable male characters, GD is by far the most comfy house. Plus, all the girls are good overall, and you'll probably like at least one of them.
BE feels like an even bigger mixed bag than the deer, honestly. Some of the characters are fine and work well off each other, though some can be annoying.
BL is objectively not a terrible house. The quartet of dimitri/sylvain/ingrid/felix is obviously very appealing for most players, but that was not the case for me. It felt lazy and I didn't necessarily care for any of them. They took up too much of the spotlight in comparison to other house members which I heavily disliked, but its not like the rest of the characters in BL are anything noteworthy, except Dedue I guess, but he's just another part of Dimitri.

Because bad stories don't affect sales nearly enough for devs to learn. On top of that you get people who defend it cause some arbitrary game is supposedly even worse than it without giving any reason at all.
Look forward to the FE after the next where the same writer is hired again to write down some contrived bullshit in which characters have to stop doing anything to make things work out.
Engage story is good though. And all characters are multilayered and don't need muh politics to pretend to be complex when they're not.

At it's base it's just a generic defeat the evil dragon story with some very foreseeable twists. That alone is fine enough. The problem is, that it's executed really poorly.

There are more details, but the general gist of it is that each scene forces a number of events by making characters either act in a stupid way or not at all. It seems like a tokusatsu with bosses being reused, but doesn't really work in a game about war, cause you just completely surrounded them after annihilating their troops.
Most characters are nothing in the main story after their introduction.

Actually, give the ring projections more personal autonomy that allows them to work against each other. Sort of like Awakenings dlc but with a more involved story around that situation. Can see various opposing factions forming just by understanding the motivations of previous characters from their respective games. We don't need OC main villain insert to bring them all together that almost never looks good.

I know it's always been about gameplay but when you have something that goes beyond barebones people begin to have expectations for that quality to at least continue in future games. Ironically Mystery of the Emblem DS Remake is my favorite despite the story but it can be forgiven for being based on a game from SNES era.

Most of Three Houses was written by Koei. Which shows really. I wish they went back to it because its the only good story a Fire Emblem game had since literally Thracia 776.

Well, for starters, I like how I can beat maddening in Three Houses with initial house, meaning no recruits from other houses, and no fliers. I fricking hate fliers. (But, to be honest, I didn't start 3H on maddening immiediately because that difficulty wasn't available when the game came out, so maybe I was familiar when I tried maddening.)
In a way, I guess you can say that this makes the game easy. Enage has way too many bullshit moments, and I have a feeling that maddening in Engage is only ''balanced'' if you use DLC emblems.
