There’s probably a million reasons and I’m sure the biggest reason is because of liberalism. America is literally the most progressive nation in the world and there’s been a consorted effort to try and get more women to play vidya. So moving away from models or whatever is largely for that reason. It’s also just a cultural thing. Places like South Korea, China and Japan have an entire culture around being UwU. This is a distinctly Asian thing as we have absolutely nothing close to that in the west. So the desire to create an idealized perfect character void of scars and blemishes seems to be a selling point for eastern games. Some could argue that Final Fantasy same face and asiatic MMO face are a different side of the same coin. Personally for me I don’t need every character in every game I play to look like a sexy 10/10 person but at least for me I’m less inclined to play a game if the MC is fricking ugly. And I don’t mean ugly like the character just looks older and more worn. I’m talking about the god awful mocap western devs do that feels like the most lazy for of characters rendering instead of designing cool or interesting characters. It’s fricking boring to me.
