It's weird that a big titted woman is supposed to be a monster that a kid controls yeah. And why is she blind or something.

Why did Digimon never take off like pokemon did?

worse marketing and wasn't the first 'mon', digimon is as popular as it deserves to be

      The film is fricking brutal

abortion, 'our fans our moronic see' - the movie

    sage

names being too similar and getting popular second made it seem like the little brother.

Digivolving in the shows was weird since they just digivolved back, so you don't really get attached and it seems to inherently mean less than Pokemon evolution

    Its shit

There is no reason for that to be a problem. I'm 100% sure you don't like it just because it's not like Pokémon.

I like a lot of rpgs and party based games, digimon never made any of them worth playing. Simple as. Pokémon is trash now for the past 15 years anyway, surprised people even remember digimon exist.

This right here. World 1 is a b***h and a half to get into if you have no idea what you're doing and even when you do it's still pretty rough. If the games started out more like World 3 or the story games then I could see things being a bit better but I don't see a timeline where Digimon is as big as Pokemon for the same amount of time.

Digimon games generally require at least some effort on the part of the player as opposed to pokemon which is designed to be playable by the dumbest motherfrickers on the planet.

      >and lacked catchy songs
I'm so glad I'm not a burger and thus was not deprived of great songs, but even them in their infinite shit taste will tell you stuff like the digirap is catchy.

You're full of shit. Even the DigiRap is catchy. Meanwhile, the Pokémon anime only made 3 catchy songs in its entire history.

It's a coming of age story
If you grew up watching the first generation and the Fox Kids movie, the characters are all grown up and have to deal with the trials of adult life.
Also Tai & Matt lose Agumon
        & Gabumon.

The Digimons are Farily Odd Parents now so they vanish when you grow up. The movie ends with Agu and Gabu going away

except the 02 epilogue is still canon, so oops, it was FRICKING NOTHING and they'll be together again

It was the social aspect. Kids brought their gameboys to school to trade and battle each other, which made other kids eager to join in, by making their parents buy it for them. Anything kids play together socially becomes a huge fad where they want all the merchandise that exists for it, and they show it off to their friends, which serves to advertise the game and its tie-ins even more.
As for Digimon, it has its card game for social play, but so does Pokemon, and Pokemon is easier for kids to understand. And Digimon was never merchandised to the same degree as Pokemon.

The v-pets could fight eachother and would've been easier to bring to school than GameBoys but they never sold 'em in America, or at least nowhere near me.

did they even know their audience was kids?

Yeah it was moronic catering to the smartest kids in the class instead of catering to the whole class like pokemon does.

no one expected a ps1 game to be a clone of a gameboy game anon
keep in mind that these games came at a time where video games had originality and people didn't expect clones of whatever at the time outside of movie license tie in games and shit like that

Poor marketing, especially in the west, because they tried to take advantage of a fad rather than carve its own niche. If a good marketing campaign had been implemented it would have had success with the v-pet, if a masterful campaign had ben planned and executed we would all be carrying v-pets today. It's all about marketing, whoever thinks this is related to the quality of the product or the designs of the characters themselves knows jackshit about marketing.
