because it's not a gimmick
it was a gen 3 gimmick, gimmick pushed with the tate and liza gym leader battle. some pokemon like plusle and minun to promote the gimmick. gamecube games like colosseum to push the gimmick even more. then the gimmick stuck around because it came early enough. if double battles were introduced in gen 7, it would've been cut from swsh like rotation battles being forgotten a gen later.
>at the time
Then it literally doesn't follow definition of a battle gimmick which don't become part of every subsequent mainline game. How dumb can you be?
That is the entire question of the thread anon, why is it that double battles went from gen gimmick to just standard feature? What do other gimmicks lack?
>he still doesnt understand it was a gimmick that was integrated into main gameplay feature
yes anon if dynamax was introduced in gen 3 since its so early on they wouldve kept that battle mechanic and you wouldnt see dynamax as a gimmick anymore
>entire hoenn dex is literally duo's to the point it had two pseudo's
It was 100% a gimmick at the time.
>GF pushes Double battles as the "official format"
>Double Battles have nearly zero presence in the actual games
There's a massive disconnect here that bothers the shit out of me.
>I NEEEED MY TODDLER CAMPAIGN TO HAVE IT!
just play PvP dumbass
>just play an unbalanced farcical shitshow that only exists to shill CHARIZARD's broken ass special snowflake shill forms
dumbass
See
It's only "the main and official format" solely because it's the one where battles go the fastest rather than any genuine belief that doubles should be the standard. That's why GameFreak doesn't give a frick to make it more present in the campaign unless it can be turned into a selling point for DLC like Indigo Disk.
3v3 singles isn’t significantly slower than 4v4 doubles. They use doubles because it has a higher skill ceiling.
>They use doubles because it has a higher skill ceiling.
>Landorus uses rock slide, both foes flinch
""""""skill"""""""
You could say this about the entirety of pokemon battling, what matters is doubles facilitate stuff like combos, team synergy, and other such things much more than singles does, and annoying tactics like stall are rendered pretty much entirely void because the opponent can always just double team the pokemon doing the stalling
Because people hated Unova so they don't care about making good games anymore
>1 minute bot post
You know I'm right.
>You know I'm [mariachi music]
Huh?
they didn't care about making good games when they were making black and white either
Gem
This will be turned into another mega evolution defense thread per OPs real goals
emerald gimmick was not having day/night cycle
the only reason why double battles still exist to this day is because it's one of the only modes that doesn't lag the shit out of gamefreak's code miraculously. if it did VGC would've turned into BSS format overnight lmao
It's easy to understand, doesn't have any weird rules like triple/rotation, and doesn't have compatibility issues with mega/dynamax/teras
>doesn't have any weird rules like triple/rotation
i don't have too much experience with triples but rotations could not be simpler
>1-on-1 fight
>except both sides have two mons they can switch to each turn
the complexity of rotations comes from the mindgames you play against your opponent, but the format is really simple
The jump from singles to doubles is weirder than doubles to triples. You're just used to doubles being in every game.
triple battles is just double battles +1 more. and rotation is just a normal singles battle except you can attack the turn you switch in
Triple battles limit which Pokemon you could target based on your positioning. The Pokemon you had on the far left couldn't hit the opponent on the far right. It was a lot jankier in practice than it needed to be. I guess they considered it necessary since no Pokemon is designed to take three hits in a single turn, and GF wasn't about to change how stats work just to balance Triple Battles at the expense of everything else.
Doubles are kept alive SOLELY because they allow TPC to host quick and efficient official tournaments. 2v2 with teams of 4 goes by ridiculously fast, and the less time TPC spends renting a place out for VGC, the more money they get to save.
It doesn't meatride the kanto pokemon so um akshually it's not a gimmick
Triple and rotation battles were lagging too much on the 3DS.
I'm kinda sad about inverse battles tho, it could have been interesting to see pokémon that are otherwise not viable such as hisuian avalugg and aggron
Double Battles aren't a gimmick, Game Freak.
triple battles were moronic and too dependent on which order you placed your pokemon. You just auto lose based on a 50/50 if you put your pokemon in the wrong position.
That's like saying items or abilities are a gimmick
Both are.
If it appears in the next gen, it's not a gimmick.
If it doesn't, it is.
>day/night cycle is a gimmick
Yes
Because they use it in competitive. If they didn't, it would be removed as yet another player people "don't engage with"
Because doubles have been what's used in official tournaments since gen 4. Gimmicks like triples and rotations never really had the same level of support and even they stuck around for an extra gen before getting cut presumably because they ran like shit on the 3DS and not many people cared about them in the first place.
How many people seriously used Wonder Launcher?
Cause its used for official tournaments.
Have they really survived? The only double battles in SV's base game is one gym.
Because Double Battles actually showed up in the anime first.
Double battles existed in the anime since the first episodes.
