Also, how did they frick over PUBG?

By taking what people like about it and adding it to fortnite I guess. Same thing they did to Apex, not sure why that is a negative tho. Its also funny that they refuse to do the same with the EGS.

By putting it on console, at 60FPS, and free when PUBG was PC exclusive at 30 dollars and ran like fricking trash for its first year or so. Outside of the formula that Arma BR mods did, that really was refined in A3 BR with the circle, plane and parachuting part all being added there was nothing PUBG had unique to it.

I remember when fortnite first blew up thinking how it was a shameless cuckolding of PUBG (who was nice enough paid the Arma 3 modder the game was based on) which was especially brutal considering PUBG was built on Unreal Engine.

Playerunknown was there from the start of PUBG, and its largely because H1Z1 had its moment in 2015/2016 that people saw it as a viable genre. Playerunknown was also apart of H1Z1s team for a bit there at the start once they wanted to add a fun mode to compliment their survival mode. Sound familiar, Tim?

It didn't really frick over PUBG, it just released on consoles at a time when PUBG was still PC exclusive (and when it did finally come to consoles as a timed Xbox exclusive, it ran like fricking dogshit) and it was also F2P while PUBG was like $30.

They held back a bunch of engine stuff from them and didn't provide any of the usual support they provide even random indie devs that run into technical issues.
This is why PUBG couldn't polish up and remained as buggy and janky as it was, which, surprise surprise, was one of the major issues the public had with the game.

per his email in the layoffs, "the metaverse" reversed Fortnite's revenue stream from shrinking to growing. his metaverse is Fortnite Creative/UEFN
the money struggles are all of the non-metaverse stuff like all the companies they bought, the store, etc.

fortnite was supposed to be an open world zombie survival game with tower defense elements.
think orcs must die but with base building and trap crafting.
then pubg took over and they implemented a hasty br mode which then started to print them money. the survival mode got put on the backburnder and only relatively recently got added into the game as save the world mode it was also a paid game mode until they made it free.
sweeny knows damn well he lucked out. its just that fortnite has printed money and still despite declining numbers does print money they just had to scale down their money spending to be less excessive.

fortnite was an insanely horrendous flop that risked bankrupting epic as a platform because they literally sabotaged their other game (Featuring REAL GRAPHICS, Paragon) to try and drag people to it. Except fortnite was moronicly p2w, had insane lootbox bullshit and timegating added on top of a paid cost to play. It was only after it was doomed and they were taking ANY ideas staff had, that someone said "let's knock off PUBG in our engine with building" that they took the idea and ran with it.
They had crossplay in the game from day 1, and all the shit about companies allowing or disallowing it only showed up after the battle royale came out. I was playing STW with my friends on xbox from my ps4 day 1, for like 6 months before they disabled it for 0 good reason.

They have the MS store already. 99% of the issues people have with it tend to stem from "DEBLOAT" bats that uninstall and frick up people's registries with changes they're not verifying before they run it. People can't seem to wrap their head around the fact the xbox app just uses the ms store and I heard so many people b***hing about starfield, here and elsewhere because they did some fake debloat bullshit or "Telemetry blockers" and disabled half their fricking windows processes and wondered why they wouldn't work, kek.

They can't afford it. And not only that, Gaben will NEVER allow it. He is a Linux guy through and through. He will never partner with or sell to Microsoft. He would sooner nuke his own servers and company on his death bed than allow anyone to sell after he's gone too. I can guarantee he has strict clauses to prevent it.

Fortnite ended up as successful as it is, because of Epic's cumulative work on Unreal Engine, that's what I think.
Original concept of Fortnite was a flop and yeah, they ripped off PUBG, but they were able to do it quickly on all platforms, even phones, without compromises and with crossplay.

Good for Tim, but his attempts to "break" Steam's imaginative monopoly only made people to be more pro-Steam, especially since at the time literally everyone was doing their own shitty launcher.

It was a success because it was on all platforms and they put an ungodly amount of bodies on it. PUBG was adding like 2 guns and a map in 2018 while Fortnite was pumping out content weekly. Map changes, new weapons/items, skins out the ass. Hell the fact PUBG hasn't redone the player models to make them less ugly, which directly would influence skin sales, is wild to me.

Fortnite's success in 2018/2019 is comparable to Riot games around 2011-2013. Pumping out content so fast competition from HoN and Dota 2 can't compete with
