    normalgays get filtered by them
system shock (and the remake) are only imsims because of how synonymous it is with LGS games, and it filtered the everliving piss out of normalgays

System shock is an imsim because it is an imsim. Simple as that.
The people at LGS created the term specifically to describe the the idea behind creating Ultimate Underworld and System Shock.

Stupid zoomer term that didn't exist back in the 90's/2000's. This was and still is a RPG/FPS.

      It's not.

Because "immersive sims" (as a genre) never existed

they don't sell that great because normies get filtered out by them bigly despite them being the type of game everyone says they want

  14. 11 months ago
    Anonymous

Normies literally run an gun through every scenario despite the game giving you hits to be more subtle.
This lead to massive amounts of frustration so develops must make that playstyle viable.

Compare modern stealth games to something like Thief to see how noticeable this is.

      >Normies literally run an gun through every scenario
based. stealth is fricking awful and thief is overrated

ss2 has all the stealth systems from thief intact but it NEVER uses them other than the engineering bays. it's a shame because there's a lot of potential there. it's actually kinda fun to ambush hybrids.

The accepted answer is low sales numbers compared to their budget and development times. Critically acclaimed games don't mean a good product business wise, a lot of the best scoring games that have a strong following are flops as far as sales go.

Didn't Prey 2017 sell relatively well though?

        Anonymous

Kinda, it's considered a flop but it's an example of games that are constantly being sold. I think it took until like 2020 for it to stop being objectively a flop and it still sells to this day. It has over a million units sold across platforms according to some numbers I googled and can't verify, while the opening year it was around half that, again, according to questionable numbers on google. I know I didn't buy it until 2021 because I didn't know it was an Immersive Sim, I thought it was a shitty call of duty clone for some reason. I have no idea where I got that perception.

I'm not saying I'm big brained, but I played the System Shock remake and I'm baffled if this game is offering too much "thinking" for modern audiences. I just crawled through corridors, shot baddies, and played those shitty 6df sections to completion. A few puzzles stopped me for a couple minutes, but otherwise it seemed pretty straight forward. Just fill out the map in each section.

Put yourself into the body of a normie who exclusively plays AAA games. Every single one of those holds both your hands until the next cutscene. Everythign interactive is highlighted, theres only one direction to move(but in case you turn arround theres a quest compass) and a list of what you are trying to accomplish is always on screen.

Put them down in a game that has none of that and they will simply not know what to do, because they are expecting to be told.

Just look at how much journos struggled with the System Shock remake. Zoomies need to be told exactly what to do and and where to go. If they're presented with too many options for approaches or they don't have a check list of objectives and a map with objective markers they get lost and frustrated.
