I seem to remember only the movies using Arrakis and Dune interchangeably but my mom who has read the whole thing multiple times including Brian's books assures me that they also call it Dune in the books
You are right.
I'm not remembering perfectly right now, but I think Dune was the more spiritual name and shit while arrakis is the "official" name but dune was used a lot still.
been playing since early access when i got it as a gift. it's a neat game but the matches often go for 3-6 hours and there can be long periods of inaction and sometimes you don't realize how behind you are in certain victory conditions before you are really deep into a match. it can make the game feel unsatisfying even for those that like rts-lite games and strategy games. it's not a terrible game and the devs have been supporting it with free updates but i don't see it drawing a big playerbase when there's much more exciting games out there. also it has a lot of guns for a series known to have work arounds to avoid gun battles so it's jarring for casual dune fans.
>series known to have work arounds to avoid gun battles
But you're not supposed to use shields because of the worms, so wouldn't they have more use for gun battles on Arakis?
I read everything up to and including god emperor and loved all of it. Should I read the last 2 Herbert books? I've heard it ends unresolved except by some abomination his son shat out. I'm utterly unfamiliar.
Dune was a solid 5/10, but Messiah and Children were legitimately some of the worst shit I've ever forced myself to finish. So terrible, in fact, that I will never read God Emperor regardless of the shrieking about how it makes the slog worthwhile.
I really liked the Dune novels, though I felt at times that they sort of dipped into pic related in regards to how "false" the Atreides were as prophets and divine figures.
>except by some abomination his son shat out. >be talentless hack >steal all dads work >make money from morons
I would come back from the grave just to strangle my son if he ever pulled this shit

People give Christopher Tolkien shit, but all the stuff he released was legitimately his dad's work with him making minimal contributions and edits in order to make them complete and keep them coherent.
He didn't write a hundred bad Lord of the Rings fanfictions and try to sell them as sequels and prequels because they were "based on his father's notes."
I don't think I've heard people give Christopher much flak except for him being a miserable c**t in general. He's pretty much the opposite of Brian given he tried to prevent soulless exploitation as much as he could when he wasn't tied by pre existing contracts.
The fact his children sold out to amazon the week he died was absolutely disgusting.
>I don't think I've heard people give Christopher much flak except for him being a miserable c**t in general
Hard to blame him, it's very likely he knew what would happen to his father's legacy after his death. Remember, The Hobbit started as bedtime stories JRRT told him during his childhood and he genuinely cared a lot about everything his father wrote. Finally, add the knowledge that the inevitable greedy vandalizing would be done by his own family.
Who wouldn't be bitter as frick in his place?
Is it really that important that you give money to some unrelated fat frick money before you play an old ass game who's devs went defunct 2 decades ago?
>make a Dune 2000 remaster >"no, old things must stay old" >trust us, all we want is a Dune 2000 remaster cuz you literally cant buy it on online stores anymore >"no, we're not interested in reviving an old franchise" >*releases shit movie and a bad game* >no-one sees the movie or plays the game >"omg see? this is why we didnt want to revive the franchise!!!! they didnt sell cuz clearly there's no interest"
just another classic case of devs being moronic and ignoring their audience
>Dune: Spice Wars isn't a Dune 2000 remaster.
i know, never said it was
leading up to its release, people kept TELLING them that they didnt want a new game and that they just wanted a re-release and modern OS compatibility with Dune 2000
they released a lengthy statement saying "the author's family think that old things should stay old" and game devs instead made some shitty half-baked low effort RTS-hybrid shit that played like a mobile game no-one wanted
After the flop and failure of Battlerite, I'm convinced there's some higher power flipping coins and rolling dice to determine what succeeds or fails.
Good games die out, horribly, with no popularity. Terrible games get lasting legacies. Mediocre games get those same legacies, who knows why?
I wanted Battlerite to get popularity so bad but it died as soon as the sponsored-stream money died out. But streamers can't be the only reason a game lives, nobody streams 4X games and Civ is more alive than ever.
So why did Dune: Spice Wars die? Nobody knows, nobody will ever know. If you want a game you care about to live, it won't.
Its no mystery why Spice Wars isn't a break out success. its a low effort clone of the devs previous game that only exists to push the new movie and Dune Awakening seems to be exactly the same. The bigger mystery is why we still haven't gotten a Crusader Kings 2/3 mod
I played it when it was in very early access and then just forgot about it, I guess RTS/city builders are dead as a genre, which is a shame, but autists like me can still find something for themselves
I know there's probably 3 other people who played it here since the game couldn't even gain traction on /civ4xg/
But what the absolute FRICK were they thinking with the 1.0 changes?
It failed because I didn't like it.
RTS is a shit genre like arpgs
what the hell is a dune?????
planet with worms
Uh, no. That's arakis
>the sun? no it's actually called sol.
how you sound
No it isn't.
Did you miss the first word of that sentence?
Imagine outing yourself as a moron like this. How embarrassing

It's not dune anymore
IT'S DUNC
Ganker pls go
WHATS MY NAME?
DUNC
It's a whole new game
DUNC
Pretty much a hill made out of sand resulting from sustained winds.
it didn't but it was compite with cc and warcraft and lost to them
It was too slow and they catered to the zoomer nu-Dune audience, a lethal combo.
>zoomer nu-Dune audience
is there such a thing?
yes because somehow Hollywood has brainwashed zoomer males into thinking zendaya is hot

there is nothing after god emperor, you are imagining things.
Dune was a solid 5/10, but Messiah and Children were legitimately some of the worst shit I've ever forced myself to finish. So terrible, in fact, that I will never read God Emperor regardless of the shrieking about how it makes the slog worthwhile.
You are right about the sequels but the first book, written by Frank himself, was actually great.
Man I really liked messiah.
god emperor dune is peak shlock
I really liked the Dune novels, though I felt at times that they sort of dipped into pic related in regards to how "false" the Atreides were as prophets and divine figures.
Filtered. Messiah is better than Dune and though the middle of Children is a slog the end is great.
The new cast of characters are either hit or miss I was bored reading heretics but I actually really liked chapterhouse

haha okay dude
Proofs that it wasn't?
Frick Dune, give me a 4 players coop Tremors game.
Blackwashing characters that were pre-established as white.
Just play the superior Dune game instead
This is the only good Dune game.
I can't find it on Steam, i used to play the ever living frick out of dune 2000 back on the ps1
www.myabandonware.com
Sorry, I'm no fremen, I don't believe in piracy.
>abandonware
>piracy
Don't you throw a question mark at me. A plague be upon ye
Is it really that important that you give money to some unrelated fat frick money before you play an old ass game who's devs went defunct 2 decades ago?
Northgard is the only 'good' game they've made, and they barely keep it working.
>make a Dune 2000 remaster
>"no, old things must stay old"
>trust us, all we want is a Dune 2000 remaster cuz you literally cant buy it on online stores anymore

Dune: Spice Wars isn't a Dune 2000 remaster. If anything, it's a Dune-themed update on the studio's last game, Northgard.
And the Dune Part 1 was actually something of a hit and made a good sized profit.
>Dune: Spice Wars isn't a Dune 2000 remaster.
i know, never said it was

>dune: Awakening
there's no way that's going to be good
This is Dune: Spice Wars, an RTS by the people who made Northgard.
Dune: Awakening is an MMO by the people who made Conan Exiles.
Their parent company is apparently trying to cash in on the movies by pumping out a bunch of Dune themed games.
Okay.
Anway there's no way Dune Awakening will be good.
After the flop and failure of Battlerite, I'm convinced there's some higher power flipping coins and rolling dice to determine what succeeds or fails.

it just wasn't a very good game
>After the flop and failure of Battlerite
Man I liked battlerite
Its no mystery why Spice Wars isn't a break out success. its a low effort clone of the devs previous game that only exists to push the new movie and Dune Awakening seems to be exactly the same. The bigger mystery is why we still haven't gotten a Crusader Kings 2/3 mod
because Northgard is shit and at least 60% of this game's dna was from Northgard
Bioware/Mass Effect style Dune game would be perfect.
is it pronounced dune or dune?
Massive disrespect for the IP and releasing a half baked game
Though competition.
what's dunc
It's not Al anymore
dunc a kino?
Duncan Idaho.
Ah, the new Duncan is ready?
They made Kynes a black woman like the stupid movie and thought they could get away with it. Frick them and frick Villenberg or whatever his name is.
Didn't actually realise this was out. It really didn't make a splash, did it?
I played it when it was in very early access and then just forgot about it, I guess RTS/city builders are dead as a genre, which is a shame, but autists like me can still find something for themselves
I liked it
>DUNC
>Hispanic Wars
I need an edit of toriyama/lightning/poochie but with Duncan
I know there's probably 3 other people who played it here since the game couldn't even gain traction on /civ4xg/
But what the absolute FRICK were they thinking with the 1.0 changes?
the market for 4x civshit is much smaller than developers think it is.
