Epic is just a Fortnite launcher. It failed as a store. Epic Store is literally on the red and they can't even afford finish building their new HQ.

How many people do you think played all the way through Goat Simulator and thought "If only there was more of this"?
It was a game built entirely around a gimmick that ran its course in a few hours at best.

Too lazy to check if that's the actual numbers and if the OP is just baiting or not (game's got 2k reviews on Steam, which is pretty bad, NGL), but:
      >EGS exclusive for WAY the FRICK too long
      >EGS exclusive at all
      >multiplayer-heavy, despite being on a platform with very few active non-Fortnite users
      >was an EGS exclusive for nearly the entire "memey party multiplayer game" lull, missing its only chance to make bank
      >too expensive for how intentionally(?) shitty the game looks and feels, 3x as much as the original game (disregarding DLC for both games)
      >also, most memey party multiplayer games run between $0-10, not thirty frickin' dollars
      >$10 cosmetic DLC on launch, made entirely of old assets
      >spent a bunch of money on the trailer, which people have long since forgotten
      >"haha unity ragdoll lol" is so overused by now that there's literally hundreds (maybe thousands) of games using that gag on Roblox and a bazillion mobile games

there was a sequel? I remember playing the goat simulator, but I think it was just some free joke game at that point
I know they ended up doing another one or maybe just building upon that and releasing it in full, but I mean how long can you keep playing off the same joke?

GS1 had like 20 DLCs and about half were huge x-pacs. There is no GS2, they skipped it to make GS3, but made it an EGS exclusive, which is an unbelievable black hole of marketing.
I think people legitimately had no idea the entire Kingdom Hearts franchise was ported to PC for so long solely because Epic got exclusivity rights for it for like 5 years.

At least in the original game, it was just some dumb joke game the devs threw together in like an hour while working off stress developing a "real game" (one of the Sanctum games, I think?)
Their policy for Goat Simulator was that they'd ONLY fix actual crashing bugs and that's it, if a bug is funny or stupid, they'd intentionally ignore it, both to save money and just to further emphasize how legitimately dumb the game is and supposed to be.
Once they started making the DLCs, that's when the game started costing more and they had to start putting in more actual effort and dev time, which was really just kinda dumb.
GS3 actually feels like they put real effort into the game based on how much shit is in it, but there's kind of this point where it looks "intentionally stupid", which just makes them feel desperate, as if a second company had looked at GS1's relative success and wanted to emulate that.
Reminds me of when an AAA dev decides to make a high-budget clone of some FOTM game, except this time it's a company doing it to their own product.

Going by estimated Steam sales figures

      https://gamalytic.com/game/850190

That's only Steam figures, which throws it off since it was EGS exclusive forever and on Game Pass at least once.

Goat Simulator was a success because there were a shitload of X Simulator games coming out. There was a poorly made ''simulation'' of pretty much anything and Goat Simulator came out at the perfect time where you could actually see that someone would make a serious game called Goat Simulator. People actually thought this was a serious game until they booted it up and found the lick button. And then it parodied all the tropes of these simulator games so it was topical and funny.
Making a sequel for the game makes no sense and skipping 2 is just stupid as people will go ''oh, they're milking that stupid goat game? I didn't even know there was a 2''
It's a really bad look for a franchise to have entries in the series that people just missed.

They should have instead capitalized on a different newer fad. Last year they could have done one of those hard climbing games and parody those, but you play as a goat for the brand recognition. This year they could have done a flavor of the month simulator where they mock those games. Stay topical while embracing your goat simulator success.

Or just kept it as a no-effort side project, just keep a PC in the break room with Unity open 24/7 with hourly backups, and anyone in the company can just walk up and code some shit while they snack.

Goat Sim was one of the first titles that really started the shovelware "X Simulator " wave.
This wave has dried up for the most parts - And the games are always a joke that people bought for the title alone
    >hehe funny goat game
This works once - And after that never again. Just like a joke only works once. Once you know it its boring.
