it was very fun and the game was the closest thing to SOTN that we got. the atmosphere was good
ost was decent, very beautiful game aswell, only the story was whatever.

It's ugly and it sucks. It got mogged by the side game.
This, curse of the moon was awesome.
I do not recognize this level.
stage 3, bro.
Oh I forgot about the bottom portion. I've beaten this game so many times, my memory is awful. Shame the second one wasn't as good.
This is just what always happens. MN9 obviously got mogged by Mighty Gunvolt/Mighty Gunvolt Burst as well.
Who would have thought that 'classic' gameplay styled games are consistently better.
>MN9 obviously got mogged by Mighty Gunvolt
Come on now, have you even played the original MG? Burst is amazing but the fricking original? Really?
Yes, Burst is obviously better but MG is still miles better than MN9. I don't think you remember just how shit MN9 was. The whole reason burst exists is because everyone commented on how the random side game was actually better.
I played the original MG when Gunvolt 1 came out on 3DS, while not bad it's by definition a nothing game, it was made as a free bonus and it sure feels like it. I actually decided to give MN9 chance for the first time just this year and it's nowhere near as shit as it's made out to be, as long as you indulge in its score attack autism, that is. But Burst is by far the best out of all three of them so it doesn't matter.
it was Castleslop
>not a single argument proving it was bad
It's pretty ugly and the shards aren't that creative.
That's it. It's a great game. Some people just hated it because new thing bad.
Liked it fine enough. However it is much better with mods that remove the stupidly low drop chance of some crystals. Why the frick should you have to grind in a game like this.
The game's fine, just stupidly grindy and honestly very very ugly. If they went with much more stylized 3D it would've looked way better.
>stupidly grindy
I finished 100%'ing the game in around 40 hours, it was fine.
>very very ugly
Looks okay to me
Grindy??? What exactly did you grind for brother?
Probably him autistically grinding to 100% the shards catalogue, then grinding to max level up and max rank all shards.
I imagine.
Not him but I did that and enjoyed myself. There's nothing inherently wrong with grinding, shit can be soothing.
Then grind by yourself
huh?
The frick did you grind for, idiot? The game aint that hard
not him, but you obviously don't have to grind to finish the game. But you do if you want to collect all the shards.
He probably wanted all crystals.
Oh, a completionist, yikes, thank God im not like that
it is a huge creative failure. It's a cheap and pale imitation of castlevania. utterly devoid of any charm, purely artificial and in simple words, slop.
The visuals and performance was kind of rough. But otherwise it genuinely feels like a Konami designed Sorrow 3. As if Castlevania had never died.
DoS was one of worse games in the series though. Bloodstained being even worse kinda makes sense I guess.
DoS is like the third best Castlevania though. So RotN being close to it makes it amazing as well.
>DoS is like the third best Castlevania though
good one.
>DoS is like the third best Castlevania though
Third best DSvania maybe.
3rd place out of 3
exactly, captain
>implying the DS entries aren't great
homosexual.
>imitation of castlevania
lol. That's EXACTLY what people wanted. We got what we wanted and we're happy. Also it was made by the creator of castlevania.
"Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery that mediocrity can pay to greatness." It was indeed a mediocre game.
The only Castlevania better than Bloodstained is SotN.
It was morth than worth my $100
Aria is better than SotN.
Most games that followed SotN were.
I swear this is just some anti-handheld bias.
Aria is 3rd best.
The thing with SotN is that it has the best visuals, the best music, the best sounds, the best game feel, and the most secrets. Its filled with so much stuff to make it the most fun and enjoyable game of them all.
>the best game feel
It is slow, you get overpowered more easily than later ones which makes the entire second half of the game feel like a slog. I don't think it has good "game feel" at all.
It is faster than the other games, and the difficulty is irrelevant. What I mean by game feel strictly applies to how it feels to control Alucard, the gravity, the way he can swing at an angle, the ways to move fast, etc.
>best game feel
HOOOOO BOYYYY, talk about opening a can of worms. Have you ever dropped from a ledge, double jumped then suddenly lost all momentum? Have you ever ducked after a backdash and tried to dash again? Have you ever tried percise platforming as the wolf? Have you ever divekicked forward from a high place only to see you lose all forward momentum? Have you ever tried going fast a richter by chaining moves?
SoTN is full of clunk and jank like this. True best game feel is ecclesia or cvhd.
Ecclesia is great you can even backdash out of crouched swings, and shield dash is better than ever.
Cvhd has corner boosts, and mountains of weird ass tech on top of playing about as good as ecclesia as a baseline
I know some monster julius's who play Cvhd for thousands of hours because the movement is flawless and the skill ceiling is endless, here something that true castlevania fans will have already seen
>looking at games at the perspective of a speedrunning troony to judge best game
nah that's not it
Dumb low skill gamer, you dont even learn this stuff to speedrun, you do it to frick around and perform increasing bizarre glitches to show your friends.
Try it when you fix your hoof hands
>show your friends
pathetic antics to please someone else. I derive enjoyment by playing a game, observing its art, listening to its soundtrack and not by breaking it like a monkey.
>lists aspects that make the game feel good because it feels like it has real momentum and gravity
>compares it to OoE, the game with the absolute worst feel because Shanoa looks like she's trudging through a swamp at all times, making even the belmont strut look speedy by comparison
Fricking lmao
>creative failure
it was as if they had a template and then just filled in the blanks instead of reimagining or innovating, that's just sad and pathetic when the core game isnt bad.
>SOTN
SOTN was shit. I did enjoy bloodstained though. I thought it was castlevania done right. Despite all the bugs and glitches. Asking wayforward to help out with your game is a big mistake. Despite all that i had fun 100% the game. It was a play once and then forget game.
>closest thing to SOTN
Its actually better. Some bosses in psxvania felt really cheap if you play it after bloodstained. Its a successor of Ecclesia with better graphics.
That said theres coming an interesting trend among metroidvania games, nsfw game called Night of Revenge was made before it, then Bloodstained came out. Alice in Cradle was in development for a while, and suddenly theres sfw version of it in shape of Ender Lillies coming out. Cannot not notice theres an exchange of artistic vision where something hentai comes up and then gets reworked for larger audience by different developer.
But at the same time inspiration is difficult to point out anywhere. Not to mention it`ll be memoryholed.
>Its actually better
I agree on everything except graphics, soundtrack is more or less the same quality
ROTN simply is better designed with the shard system from DoS, more equipment slots, quests, respawning chests, etc
Its basically all the good ideas Iga ever had packaged in one single game
>soundtrack is more or less the same quality
this person is deaf.
ROTN has an amazing soundtrack and im tired of the fact it gets underappreciated
>im tired of the fact it gets underappreciated
its soundtrack is very average.
Off the top of my head, Luxurious overture and Interred Glory are top tier tracks. Admittedly a lot of the rest was meh
I liked it, but Metroidvanias are probably my favorite game genre.
It's good, but it's disappointing that it couldn't meet standards set by SotN.
I liked it but that one part of the game where you're going up the tower and the camera is constantly turning is straight up the most awkward use of 2.5D I've ever seen in my life. And all the backer content stuck out like a sore thumb.
Best KS game that or FTL.
It truly is a great re-imagining of Castlevania games.
What hate? It did exactly what it set out to be, It's another Igarashi castlevania game. The only really criticism I can think of is the ugly graphics, character designs and the lazy last area just being parts of the normal castle and common enemies but big.
I think a lot of the hate came from people who were hyped from the Kickstarter and expected more out of the game. also, the devs probably failed to deliver on a few of their promises but I don't care enough to verify that assumption.
it's a decent game, but I never bothered 100%ing it and I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything. also, pretty much every modern indie metroidvania mogs it.
>devs probably failed to deliver on a few of their promises but I don't care enough to verify that assumption
For what it's worth Iga and co have been adding things to the game for years after release, even things that I thought were vaporware like "classicvania" mode.
I hope the unity situation kills bloodstained 2. The graphics is mobile game tier and shouldn't allowed to exist.
The first Bloodstained is made with unreal engine 4.
damn and they still had unity tier graphics? there is no hope then.
Yeah 505 has garbage artists from what I hear. I don't expect the sequel to look any better.
Because it was very mediocre, to the point where you can choose ten random indie Metroidvanias on Steam and they're guaranteed to be better.
>why did it get so much hate?
>the closest thing to SOTN that we got
That's the problem, SotN is shit. You can't reproduce babby's first Castlevania because babby already wuvs SotN.
game is hideous to look at, betraying it's artstyle. but it's also just not fun. everything felt wildly unbalanced and it ruined combat for me. the bs demakes were far better.
It's ugly as sin. I play igavania to look at spritework so good it makes me hard, and to listen to michiru yamane's soultastic themes. Gameplay loop just needs to be acceptably responsive and have me collect things and explore map, but it's on the side imo.
Bloodstained music is pretty good, gameplay loop is alright, but the visuals kill it completely.
I haven't played this, even though I'm huge metroidvania fan, because I just cannot stand that dogshit ugly look. For some reason it's just repulsive to me.
Any port in a storm, the game. Literally a low budget knock off of the Sorrow games.
It's not awful but it's not finished. It's also very janky and unoptimized. The clocktower section still chugs to this day.
Like others said too, it's an ugly looking game.
as a sotn connoisseur, i liked it. its getting a simons quest dlc. the haters played the shitch port
Oh that's true we're in tendie territory and the performance was shit.
I really enjoyed it, I did every campaign, the classic mode and even the boss rush. Child of Light DLC was so cheap it was actually kind of funny. They kind of dropped the ball with their randomizer (it very often causes a soft lock) and multiplayer never came to be.
The game is ugly, there's too much SOTN pandering despite being based on systems from later igavanias, and the level design is fricking terrible, the castle is absurdly annoying to navigate even after getting all the necessary skills, it gets bonus points for actually being a proper metroidvania instead of a sorry excuse for a 2d dark souls like most indie "metroidvanias", but it was a very weak one
Also 95% of the shards are garbage, it's actually incredible how much they fricked up the powers
>very beautiful game
it's piss ugly
I love the game, played it through 5+ times but it's not beautiful by any means. It's ugly through and through. I don't even like Miriams design, doesn't come close to the beauty of Shanoa and doesn't come close to the coolness of a Belmont.
The spinoffs are also much better Castlevania games than the Iga one.
I'm very excited for Bloodstained 2 though and I really hope Iga found someone who can actually do 3D art.
>people b***hing its derivative
WOW, ITS ALMOST AS IF FANS PAID MILLIONS OF DOLLARS TO THE DIRECTOR OF SYMPHONY OF THE NIGHT TO MAKE A SIMILAR GAME
What did you expect? Motherfrickers
come on people. Iga did not literally downgraded the aesthetics, graphics. They didn't delay his DLCs for 4 fricking years after release, they didn't indefinitely delay the physical copies, their partners didn't make better 2D spinoff games with a fraction of the budget. No sir, the Kickstarter was not a bait and switch to deliver an absolute abortion of a game.
I expected a new igavania that would keep the improvements later games had, not a literal SOTN ripoff, getting the original creator is a waste if he's not making something new
What improvement was not present in ROTN? Its literally all the best design decisions of previous games together
>why did it get so much hate?
Did it really? I liked it.
Did it? People seeemed pretty pleased with it even if it's on the ugly side.
>a small minority of rabid, no-life loser metroidvania schizos on Ganker shit on a game
>hurr why did it get so much hate? durrrrrr
You genuinely need to go outside more, you spend to much time here it literally warps your perception of reality.
>it was very fun
Not very, but fun enough.
>the game was the closest thing to SOTN that we got
No, that is HoD on gba.
>the atmosphere was good
Yes, but it have derived too much from nds entries. That is one of the main reasons it is not like SotN. Iga is very jealous over SotN.
>ost was decent
It was not bad, but i can't remember a single track from it.
Bloodstained was created by Iga as another attempt to prove, that he could do better, than Hagihara. Unfortunately, failed attempt.
Not a bad game on it's own though.
>closest thing to SoTN that we got
No it isn't. The game isn't trying to be SoTN, it's Trying to be Aria/Dawn Of Sorrow, which it succeedes to be.
The closest thing we got to SoTN is Record Of The Lodoss War and Afterimage.
Gameplay wise it's as good if not better than AoS. I suppose people just hate AoS as well or are graphics/story gays.
>why did it get so much hate?
Because it was a very bad game, as simple as that.
Ugly- 2D games using 3D graphics is a fools' errand. It can look good, but almost never does. Everything in Bloodstained just looks wrong. That aside, Miriam's design just isn't there. The two-tone hair just looks bad. The shards are just drawn flatly on her skin, where's the texture? Where's the horror? It's supposed to be an unwanted, spreading transformation. The two-tone hair and shard tattoos should have much more of a stained glass look, like she's supposed to be evoking.
Chores- farming shards, levelling shards. Farming weapons, items, food, recipes, shops. This isn't "packed with content", it's horrible busywork.
everything is overdesigned and lacked any sort of focus or target. It is clear that the dev studio is composed of amateurs, Iga was only the ideas guy and it clearly shows.
Besides getting some flak for the visuals, it didn't and no amount of history revision will change that.
dunno, only heard you can take her shoes off so I might buy it
>It's ugly
til today I still dont understand whats so ugly about it and not a single one of you morons have given a good argument why its ulgy
use your eyes, moron.
2019 was a pretty interesting year due to seeing the release of three games that followed the same pattern:
>Release of a long dormant franchise's sequel / spiritual successor
>Games are praised due to said franchises being dormant for a decade or more
>Once the honeymoon is over and the hype cools down people look at said games with objective lens
>People realize that said games not only are a massive step back from the previous games but are legitimately bad on their own.
DmC 5 is very good
No it isn't. it's the second worst game in the series, only 2 being worse.
5 was pretty much DmC2,
While I think DMC5 is fine, it is completely baffling they made the most unfun character on the franchise that is V.
I disliked him immediately, and whenever I tried to find something fun about him, that only made me dislike him more...
ahem
FRICK THE MOON
It isn't nearly as pretty as SotN, but it's a solid game, and the freebie game was a nice gift to the OG castlevania fans.
Honestly it's even unfair to compare to SotN, game is a damn genre defining one-of-a-kind deal.
Is Bloodstained an indie game?
One of the few AA games we still get every now and again.
Then no wonder Bloodstained was a bad game.
Only indie developers are talented enough to make good Metroidvanias.
we are still getting metroid games man.
I stand corrected then.
Only indie developers and Nintendo are talented enough to make good Metroidvanias.
Hollow knight is mid. Not good or bad, just mid
Rabi ribi and guacamelee surpass it
But Hollow knight is better than junk like momodora, axiom verge, touhou double focus.
Ender lillies and Touhou Luna nights are about as good as Hollow knight
>Rabi ribi and guacamelee surpass it
Hell no, guacamelee doesn't surpass anything, so i am puzzled by its mentions.
Rabi Ribi is a huge mess, every criticism people level towards Hollow Knight the rabi ribi does it a lot worse.
>Touhou Luna nights
Wish it had more content, a Reimu mode would have been cool but it's probably impossible given how specifically tailored most of the levels are to time stopping abilities.
I liked deedlit in wonder labyrinth better. It was a breath of fresh air with its amazing art and tight gameplay.
>deedlit
>tight gameplay
No. Just no. In no way is that absolute mess that gets completely cheesed by magic "tight".
the controls were pretty responsive and felt good that's what I meant to say by tight. It was not in the context of being challenging.
Hollow Knight homosexuals think every metroidvania needs to be difficult to be good
It had a budget of 5 million + dollars, now you tell me.
the alchemy system fricking sucked, then I read the patch notes and learned they fricked it over because balance issues. frick them
I'm still baffled that no matter how many disasters like Bloodstained are released every year, people still don't learn that there is no such thing as a "superstar developer" and that having worked on a classic videogame doesn't mean you can replicate said classic.
Callisto Protocol is a good game, it just had optimization problems at launch, it needs to be removed from the list. Also, what kind of superstar dev worked on Ballan's Wonderworld or whatever it's called?
>Callisto Protocol is a good game
kek. the story was literally shit and you know it when DLC fricks it up even more.
At least it's not as bad as Dead Space Remake with its troon toilet and MUH DEEP WRITING.
serves right for those playing remake slops.
>Also, what kind of superstar dev worked on Ballan's Wonderworld or whatever it's called?
How did you miss the marketing for it? It was headed by both the character designer and programmer for the original Sonic games and Nights into Dreams.
>Callisto Protocol is a good game
No it isn't. It's a terrible game on every aspect besides visuals.
>disasters like Bloodstained
huh?
>asiaticshit leveling system in a fricking metroidvania
>asian inability to create a refined moveset for the main characters, thus giving her a crutch of being able to collect a shitton of samey abilities like "shoot an arrow" or "launch a fireball"
>shitty ost
>some of the progression is hidden behind a random drop of a common enemy
Does it really need to be broken down for people to understand?
What's a "game aswell"?
You forgot two words there, dum dum.
Graphicscucks doing what they do best, being insufferable homosexuals. The visuals aren't even that bad in the first place.
I found it fun and she has huge tiddies. Also got a lot of free DLC afterwards.
I liked the game, but it looked really rough. The 3D assets looked like shit most of the time, especially the kickstarter shit
>neckbeard portraits start attacking
I often imagine those who say that "bloodstained is better than the castlevania games" to look exactly like those guys in the portrait.
I liked it. It wasn't great but it scratched my itch.
What actually pisses me off is the update shortly after release that nerfed a bunch of weapons and crystals for no reason. Immediately killed my desire to ever replay the game.
graphics so awful that it makes Konami's mobile castlevania game look better in comparison.
Did they ever add the multiplayer mode or was that canned?
soon™. It's absolutely appalling to see how much they've delayed their road map and still not be censured.
They just posted a trailer for it a few weeks ago:
Gameplay-wise it's very fun.
The artstyle and graphics are very lackluster, though, and people got high hopes from the concept art I think.
This game filtered the true metroidvania fans (RPG mechanics) from the metroid-like fans (exploration > grinding). Bloodstained was SUPER grindy, but that's by design. Rule of thumb, if you aren't shuffling between twoo rooms to kill respawning enemies for loot/XP, then you're probably not playing a real metroidvania, because this was half the gameplay loop of the PS1/GBA/NDS Castlevanias
The castle simply was not fun to explore, the soundtack was probably Yamane's work to date, and the graphics style felt off.
>the soundtack was probably Yamane's work to date
*was probably Yamane's worst work to date
I would like to think that the art design and aesthetics felt uninspiring to her, so that she wasn't able to make good tracks for something so insipid. Compare making music for this game with the Gothic, dark, orchestral majesty of castlevania whose themes have a rich background.
I'm a big metroidvania fan and I loved it. It was a sotn clone a lot of fun. Probably the only indie metroidvania that is actually good. Most of them completely miss what makes them good
SHITSTAINED
Nobody asked about your underwear, dude.
Die monster, you don't belong in this world.
