Ultimate has literally unplayable netplay so the only people playing it are those going to locals. And Ultimate ends up getting banned because Ultimate players are 10x worse than the worst Melee player in terms of attitude and personality.
Because one of the core symptoms of autism is an inability to accept change, and a preference for the familiar and the routine.
Melee outlived Ultimate for the same reason melee players don't eat broccoli, or look people in the eyes when they talk.

Mario downthrow uptilt uptilt upair upair upair dair gets really boring when it's like the only real combo you've got. It's fun if you're not taking it super seriously but I don't understand why anyone would actually play it competitively.

It's a 7/10 game IMO. Nothing special.
The top tiers, spacies, are high risk, high reward. They promote a fast and interactive meta. Ultimate top tiers promote a slow and frustrating meta where approaching and interaction is discouraged. Melee also has a good online system, ultimate still sucks.
It feels good to play, feels good to move around in. Brawl and 4 felt like fricking shit. Imagine having someone like Captain Falcon not have momentum on his running fricking jump. Ultimate is a little better but still feels awkward and weird, they never replicated the good physics from melee.
I'm not even gonna get into gameplay proper, I'm just talking about moving normally in the game whether or not use you use competitive techniques or not. It's nice, makes you wanna play more and try doing crazy shit more.
Unironically the only way they'll fix upon future entries is if they make ultimate the armageddon. Give next entry only like 30 characters consisting of must-haves from ssb and rotate the other 18 characters around each new entry.
Melee is like counter strike 1.6, one you played it you can't go back, same for Fzero GX and futuristic racing games, nothing comes close. the only way nintendo copes is adding more characters and stages but the gameplay is actually less fun and the art is of lower quality, music animations style models etc
