Not an MMO by any stretch of the imagination.

destiny is homosexual trash for redditors and it's surely as frick didn't "take off"
      >but same redditors still waste years on this trash
      and literally no one else

because for some odd reason MMO devs feel that it's necessary to make them have some of the worst gameplay in the entire industry

      >make them have some of the worst gameplay in the entire industry
      so FPS perfectly fits

Destiny's largest map can only contain 32 players.

      That's not an MMO. That's Battlefield.in 2006.

considering every modern mmo is a group of a dozen or so guys hidden away in their own private area, you may as well say that a 16+ player fps server is "mmo"

        Anonymous

If that constitutes what an MMO is then there hasn’t been a real MMO in over a decade. Both WoW and FF use phasing and the only place that has more than 30+ people is in cities which destiny also has.

Unironically fortnite is more of an MMO than these "MMOs". Same with PUBG

anon, it was the dominating game genre of the 00s and even now there's millions of people still playing 20 year old MMOs right now.

like shit, in the 00s you had 3 choices of game to play
    >MMOs
    >C&C Generals
    >Unreal Tournament/Battlefield 1942

devs are not willing to take risks anymore, they only produce safe and tested trends.

dayz popular = spam of indie loot shooters
            vampire survivor = same thing
planet side 2 = game was overhyped, servers couldn't handle it and then it was just sharp decline since then

PlanetSide 2 was so fricking fun, haven't touched that game in years, but no other multiplayer shooter has managed to to that experience for me.
I have no idea why the concept of persistent territory gains as a gameplay feature hasn't taken off.
If that was a gamemode in a Call of Duty, Battlefield or Halo that would've been sick.

Most people are borderline morons and cannot process the concept of meta objectives, so it's a largely wasted feature.

    Unforgiving lag

Most popular FPS market are burgers

Burgers have shit tier internet. All it takes is once butthole with a bad connection to turn everything to shit. A normal MMORPG can have a bit of lag and not impact that much, but for shooters its lethal.

FPS are fun because it's mostly skill and knowledge that wins the game, not numbers (unless you're a filthy cheater). MMOs need progression and the easiest way to give progression is through numbers.

Also there was a FPS MMO.

How does that even work? FPS actually need to render 3d surroundings, fps but with thousand people at the same time sounds like something you will need a powerful pc for, before accounting for all the lagging

that's a good question, how the frick did planetside 2 manage this like 10 years ago while modern games can barely handle 64 players?

        what

poor memory, it was always a lag fest at release

said but also that forgelight (the PS2 engine) was basically magic at release, the fact it worked at all on hardware from 12 years ago was something and the fact it did it even semi-stable while looking really goddamn good (before all the fancy graphical stuff was cut out for PS4 parity) was a miracle and it was probably quite a few players' first experience with some of the (not great) stuff every modern engine now has like deferred rendering, which is how those night battles with hundreds of dynamic lights from tracers and explosions were possible at all, and for a while after release it was even running acceptably
the problem is twofold in that 1. most of the people who actually made the engine work were incredibly skilled, but were only hired on as a contract by SOE so once it was up no one was left who actually knew how the engine worked, which led to years of patches that were just changing gun numbers or trying to fix performance by cutting texture rez in half; and 2. smedley and friends insisted on the playstation port having parity with the PC version, so the PC version got cut and pasted back together to fit which is never a fricking good idea

Because no "MMOFPS" ever had good gunplay, and the "good" ones were only good because of the scale of them (See Planetside).

Destiny is the closest thing you’re gonna get.
the only real competitor to Destiny would be Borderlands if they decided to make Borderlands a live-service game but idk if they want to go that route. i personally would be interested in it, but overall in terms of another FPSMMO, nothing can compete with Destiny, and even third-person clones of it die quickly apart from Division and Warframe

it still exists. it's been p2w for at least a decade now tho. I suppose that's the biggest problem with MMOFPS' but it's also been conquered by zoomers paying big money for skin packs like fortnite and WZ instead of insta-win weapons. maybe the APB lads should try a relaunch. I had fun.

Didn't have the same feel of progression as MMOs did and also there wasn't no sense of exploration and socializing wasn't the same. I love the genre but it will never be get the game it deserves. Rip MAG
