They do in DxD. There's at least 3 relatively recurring male characters who're all pretty friendly with the protagonist (one is implied to be kinda-sorta into him, the other is a mentor, and the other is a crossdressing vampire who he motivates to be manly).

The genre as a whole has sort of died down. You mostly just get "other genre with harem elements", if anything. Isekai harem stuff happens a lot, and sometimes delves into full-scale polyamory, sometimes it's like Shield Hero where there's a blatantly obvious couple and then a bunch of girls also into the protagonist.

Tenchi Muyo is so old that it predates a lot of modern cultural autism.
Tenchi was something that helped establish the harem genre, but nobody really took notes from Kajishima. Kajishima honestly has his own brand of autism considering how weird the family trees get in later in the novels, and it is just a matter of time before Kenshi impregnates most likely an entire planet of mostly women.

The only way they were saving it from just completely going to shit was a time loop. When they break the timeloop, the worlds were also unmerging and would revert to the state they were when the merge happened. You actually hit the nail on the head here. For all intents and purposes, Pyra and Mythra are one person. Yes, they are split at the end but that does not erase their character. Rex was always going to have a "twins" situation. The wild card here is Nia, however Rex has proven that he is the only person who actually accepts Nia for who / what she is. She can't really go back to a "normal" life so she is really stuck with him or nothing. Pyra and Mythra would be sympathetic to this as they have seen what happens to flesh eaters (most end up dead or very jaded). Not to mention that Rex is an orphan and would long for a big family of his own.
No agenda, no "morals" and certainly no politics - just a sensible end to their story.
Now, they COULD have written Nia as more like an adoptive sister and just had a Rex/Pyra/Mythra thing going, but they chose to lean into Nia being into him, so fair's fair. It's pretty implied that Rex is pretty aware of what Nia thinks of him, he's just deflecting when she brings it up because... He doesn't think he deserves it or just wants to not complicate things during the course of the game's events, and Rex wouldn't be harsh enough to just turn her down for the sake of Pyra and Mythra (he's not Shulk who's one b***h ride or die, tough shit Melia), so even though it ended with Nia kinda just going "Fine I'll step aside he clearly loves Pyra/Mythra" Rex would just be like "Nah frick that shit, you're with us too".

Rex’s single brain cell was on vacation when Nia confessed to him. Thankfully, it worked double overtime and eventually put the pieces together after the matter. You can even see this in his post-battle chatter with blade Nia.
Rex and Nia is an odd case, since he did kind of do the 'dense protag' and not realising it was a love confession until later. He probably just ended up feeling really guilty about it since he didn't get a chance to talk with her about it, since when he tries to bring it up, she tells him later and then the whole deal with the dream sequence probably fricked him up. They probably had a long discussion after the game and ended up together from that. Makes me wish for a drama CD to come out and detail that.

Tenchi Muyo is so old that it predates a lot of modern cultural autism.
Tenchi was something that helped establish the harem genre, but nobody really took notes from Kajishima. Kajishima honestly has his own brand of autism considering how weird the family trees get in later in the novels, and it is just a matter of time before Kenshi impregnates most likely an entire planet of mostly women.

It's 100% real. The worlds Ether are incompatible with each other and cause the world to fall apart when in contact. The only way they were saving it from just completely going to shit was a time loop. When they break the timeloop, the worlds were also unmerging and would revert to the state they were when the merge happened. Noah is shown after credits hearing a flute and recognizing the Agnian song. So somehow, Mio made it over to the other world. DLC will likely deal with properly merging the worlds together.

You actually hit the nail on the head here. For all intents and purposes, Pyra and Mythra are one person. Yes, they are split at the end but that does not erase their character. Rex was always going to have a "twins" situation. The wild card here is Nia, however Rex has proven that he is the only person who actually accepts Nia for who / what she is. She can't really go back to a "normal" life so she is really stuck with him or nothing. Pyra and Mythra would be sympathetic to this as they have seen what happens to flesh eaters (most end up dead or very jaded). Not to mention that Rex is an orphan and would long for a big family of his own.
No agenda, no "morals" and certainly no politics - just a sensible end to their story.
Now, they COULD have written Nia as more like an adoptive sister and just had a Rex/Pyra/Mythra thing going, but they chose to lean into Nia being into him, so fair's fair. It's pretty implied that Rex is pretty aware of what Nia thinks of him, he's just deflecting when she brings it up because... He doesn't think he deserves it or just wants to not complicate things during the course of the game's events, and Rex wouldn't be harsh enough to just turn her down for the sake of Pyra and Mythra (he's not Shulk who's one b***h ride or die, tough shit Melia), so even though it ended with Nia kinda just going "Fine I'll step aside he clearly loves Pyra/Mythra" Rex would just be like "Nah frick that shit, you're with us too".

Rex’s single brain cell was on vacation when Nia confessed to him. Thankfully, it worked double overtime and eventually put the pieces together after the matter. You can even see this in his post-battle chatter with blade Nia.
Rex and Nia is an odd case, since he did kind of do the 'dense protag' and not realising it was a love confession until later. He probably just ended up feeling really guilty about it since he didn't get a chance to talk with her about it, since when he tries to bring it up, she tells him later and then the whole deal with the dream sequence probably fricked him up. They probably had a long discussion after the game and ended up together from that. Makes me wish for a drama CD to come out and detail that.
