Several key people left, so they knew the company wasn't worth as much. Microsoft did not know how much damage those people leaving would cause, so they bought a dud. Still haven't earned back the money from buying it.

they'd get more money by making things people actually want rather then sea of thieves content over and over.

also take a page from sakurai's book and make banjo actually look like banjo.

You have no idea how much sea of thieves is successful
They "only" paid rare 50 million 2022 dollars

    they hated non-japanese developers.

either that or conker's bad fur day causing autism due to their family friendly mandate so it made them seethe. (or star fox adventures was so bad that they dumped them on the curb, take your pick)

If they tried to do a sequel nowadays they'd probably frick it up somehow like filling it with MTX or something.

Coz Rare were shit and completely out of ideas and their talent had left to join other studios.

Unironically, Japanese pride and racism-lite at the top of the company (and probably a bit below as well).

this is the real reason. If rare happened to be all japanese devs nintendo would've bought them out instead of letting them go

Nintendo doesn't like spending money on second party devs. That's why they just did it for the first time in forever after a shitton of investor pressure to go out and buy Capcom or somebody, because they wanted to do that even less.

I expect their thinking was that Microsoft wasn't getting the important IPs and therefore there was no reason to spend tens of millions on what amounted to talent retention. If they wanted somebody to make games for them, they could just hire them directly (which is more or less how Retro came to be)

They were half the reason to like Nintendo in the 90's and few can come close to imitating their nuance and soul.

Rare let too many important members go first and Nintendo probably didn't care for more western IP's too much.

Because the Rare Microsoft bought was not the same Rare that made all those classics.

    >they hated non-japanese developers.
Hence why they worked with british developers on Star Fox? Or why they worked with foreign tech or literally bought a foreign studio?

Let's not lie to ourselves, Nintendo is anything but prejudiced, it has more to do with the output and lack of interest in owning Rare that was the key factor

Because Rare started to suck around that time. Just look at their post-Nintendo games.
