Why did Pokemon go to shit after gen 2? Is it because they knew they could never top the soul overload of GSC so they gave up?

GSC was a legit sequel to RBY hence revisiting Kanto and battling Red. Anything afterwards was just GameFreak milking the franchise for money.
This is a big part of it. Johto felt like a real expansion of the world we were in in RBY because of how it was connected. All subsequent regions might as well be in alternate dimensions from one another (hell the remakes even made this shit canon) with how little they impact one another.
even so how do you explain how no one in kanto knew of the existence of any of the pokemon species in the johto region? thats the only real thing that bothers me about the gen 1 to gen 2 connection. or did they actually explain that in the game? i dont remember if they did
Back in the Gameboy era when these truly were new additions to the world rather than being retroactively applied as "always there", they were marketed and explained as newly discovered species, which is why not too many trainers in GS have those new Pokemon in the first place. This is also why a lot of the new Pokemon could only be discovered through new mechanics like early morning/night encounters, headbutting trees, breeding, swarms or the plethora of new evolution methods, as it's also meant to be a cheeky nod to the player that the Pokemon world has opened up significantly to allow them to perform these things in GS to seek out these brand new frickers.
It doesn't add up for EVERY species, but it covers a large enough swath of them that you can suspend your disbelief enough to roll with it.
This.
GSC was supposed to simply be "Pokemon 2" and then let the franchise end.
Once they realized they could just shit out the exact same tricks every 2 years with minimal effort, it became just another routine.
This is impressive in the sense that I literally don't think you could make Kanto any more crunchy than this without losing the key landmarks.
This. And no one at gamefreak is passionate about pokemon anymore, they'd rather make anything else and the lack of care is noticeable.
>GSC was supposed to simply be "Pokemon 2" and then let the franchise end.
Megaman X5 was also going to be the last in that series too and the staff roll theme really gives that feeling away.

That as it may at least they always deliver great pokegirls.
At least until the most recent gen.
Would’ve been cool if Brendan could go back to Johto and Battle Gold and so on with current trainer battling previous trainer of previous region.
KANTOOOO
Pokemon has always been a low quality franchise
They thought the pokemon fad would die and they would be able to try other stuff
>oh no we're making billions of dollars hand over fist we wanna make other shitty games instead 🙁
Absolutely zero sympathy for Game Freak.
Funny you'd say, I started playing it today and it's unbearable how many wild encounters happen in a single segment of grass HOLY SHIT.
>play pokemon
>get upset you're encountering pokemon
Nemona is fricking cute.
Meant for
Lmao changing the subject with an overrated waifu, you are too funny Nemona Anon
>Nemona Anon
That's my name, don't wear it out.
The female player character is plain and ugly, and can only wear male clothing.
Juliana? She's cute as well.
it's upsetting how my fricking starter is almost dead and I got no pokeballs because the professor made me go to the other town and random battles occur every 2 steps.
Oh no, there's no one stopping you every step to recovery your mons and giving free itens and/or overpower pokemons, what a awfull game design.
you have to use Repel, it's cheap and you have an abundance of money. You can also use cut to remove tall grass until you leave the screen.
try pokemon lets go pikachu/eevee. its a very chill experience
the only battles are with trainers. wild pokemon are out and about like the new games and if you do interact with any of them it just takes you into a quick and easy 'throw ball to catch pokemon' mini game. its my favorite thing about lets go
you have to understand that this site is filled with autist morons who think they are geniuses for having the most dogshit taste and opinions
they praise random encounters over the overworld mons
they love having two shitmons in the team for hms instead of ride mons in smusum/lets go, or the bike from swsh, or the new hm system in bdsp, or koraidon/miraidon in sv
they love hours of handholding over the complete freedom provided in scarlet/violet
they love wasting their time on useless crap like ev/iv managing over the convenient features introduced in newer games that quicken up the process
many more interesting preferences, but you can tell these people only like the older games for the nostalgia when in fact the newer games are simply better in terms of gameplay features
I'll abso-frickin-lutely give modern Pokemon credit for gradually streamlining the hell out of the teambuilding process by making it easy to customize your Pokemon, it's genuinely a delight to be able to go into SV, take your ingame team, cleanse them of their garbage EVs, give them the IVs they need via Hyper Training and then customize the everloving shit out of them so they're comparable to a eugenics baby from the Gen 3-5 days, doing all of which in a FRACTION of the time.
The only criticism I have in SV's case specifically is that EV reduction berries are a b***h to stock up on, but Indigo Disk will probably remedy that by allowing you to straight up buy those berries from a Blueberry Academy vendor on account of Blueberry Academy being the literal battle-focused school.
The lack of self-awareness from you two autists is hilarious.
They started making every story about box legendaries
has there been any post-Gen II game where the box legendaries were adjacent to the main plot rather than integral?
gen 4 was particular fricking egregious. groundon and kyogre were warped up in the environmental feud of aqua nd magma but dialga and palkia power were never wrapped into the sinnoh campaign which to me was a huge missed opportunity. they could had some time warping plot or space adventure with palkia
acts but this thread has about 4 posts until the
>KANTO IS SMALL AND SUCKS IN GEN II!
>THE LEVEL CURVE IS LE BAD
tyranny's appear and try and prop up either Gen III, Gen V, or the newer games as better.
That homosexual Masuda. He's still tainting the series even after semi retiring.
But gen 2 is not good?
Because gen 3 exposed GameFreak's laziness though we wouldn't find out Iwata was responsible for Gen 2's soul until years later.
Because you're not a child and you grew up
Oh and Gen 3 is better
Nothing about Gen 3 is objectively an improvement other than the Running Shoes.
Level curve and new mon distribution
>Level curve
Subjective
I prefer the "superboss" being 25+ levels above you and RSE's late game level curve isn't that great either because of the Magma/Aqua spam.
>new mon distribution
Subjective as not everyone prefers to see Gen 3 Pokemon over Gen 1 Pokemon. KANTOOOO is not a criticism.
Double Battles which aren’t utilized that much until Emerald
Ruby and sapphire were pretty damn good as well its just that they clearly started running out of good designs after gen 2. My first time playing sapphire I beat it with a swellow, the starters sucked ass and were ugly as frick. Gen 3 was downhill and after that was a cliff.
anal with suikun
scarlet/violet revived the series for me
best gameplay
best narrative
best set of features
the visuals look awful and the performance is terrible on switch, but playing on pc with a celshade mod fixes everything
>PC
Is there any point? I don't want the pokemon I breed and train to be stuck in a single game without being able to transport them to future entries or current ones like Arceus.
Platinum and the BW series were the peak of the franchise and any other opinion is pure cope. GSC were great--and Pt and B/W still decimate them.
i never saw like half the gen 2 dex because they hide them from the player with time based events or make them way too annoying to find
Sometimes I think Wobbuffet and Skarmory are gen 3 mons because I never saw them in my first gen 2 playthrough.
this, but Marill and Togepi are gen 1 because anime
Crystal is such a comfy game, everytime I see the box art I think back to my first playthrough and want to replay it
>gen 2 added:
>day/night cycle with different pokemon appearing depending on if its day or night
>days of the week with different things happening on different days
>going to another region for post game and fighting the mc of the previous game
>can get both box legendaries
>get excited for gen 3
>no day/night cycle
>no days of the week
>no going to another region
>can only get 1 box legendary
>water as far as the eye can see
The disappointment was immeasurable
>annoying time-based shit i just changed the clock for
>annoying time-based shit i just changed the clock for
>shitty boss rush in a half-baked region, pikachu lead i can spam x items on
>emerald gives you both groudon and kyogre and every game gave you rayquaza
>half of the water routes were optional
i've played far more gen 2 (romhacks and stadium 2) but emerald was alright
>annoying time-based shit i just changed the clock for
i'm not waiting 5 days to use a fricking lapras on my team when i'd be done with the game by then lmao
crystal kaizo+, crystal legacy
Zoom zoom
Which romhacks?
>another pokemon gen war thread filled with virgin manchildren
yawn
Most genwar threads boil down to "do you like exploring or battles more?" GSC does the former decently well at great expense of the latter.
cant imagine why OP
Somehow I don't think it can get worse yet it fricking does.
Why don't they just make a Pokémon game that magically reminds time back to when I was a kid and makes it stay that way forever?
Why won't anyone fulfill my deliberately impossible demands?
Gen2 cucks baffle me with their terrible taste.
Gen 2 is PEAK sloppy game design, even if you played it as a dumb kid you should have noticed. Then again you people are obsessed with soulsborne so bad design doesn't really matter does it?
What? Hoenn was much better than gen 2 and the actual peak of the franchise, gen 4 onwards, especially gen 5 and gen 7, should never have existed tho. It's fricking disgusting that gen 5 is the absolute antithesis of gen 3 and yet some morons pretend it's SOUL.
Gen 3 was the only entry in this series that had a theme to it, the struggle of man vs nature, and you're constantly reminded of that along your journey, you go through so many different biomes and you get to see how people conquered these places.
The evil teams also connect with this theme as they represent the very extreme of man vs nature.
The Legendary trio in Hoenn also connects to the theme of man vs nature in that they represent nature's ultimate power as they clash among themselves and the evil teams.
Also exploration is at its highest in gen 3, with tons of variations of routes you get to explore, the sea routes are vast and explorable and don't feel like designated water corridors.
The world of gen 3 has life to it, it uses it's theme masterfully, and the theme kind of becomes the chorus almost, and with just that one theme, it keep coming back to it, time and again, as you progress through the game, and you advance through different regions but it always leads back to that theme, the "man vs nature", keeps pointing at you, and it's so effective, really.
Other entries in the series, previous and posterior ones, didn't have this feel to them, they just seem like an amalgamation of different places with people distributed around with no meaningful connection between a place and its inhabitants, the evil teams just boil down to "lmao we're gonna do evil stuff because evil", and the legendaries are just "lmao strong pokémon", which gets very annoying in gen 4 and onwards where the legendaries are just "lmao dragons".
I don't think any other pokémon games come close to gen 3's kino and I don't expect any future entry in this series to ever reach it.
