This, There is such a severe difference between 3D and 2D that it isn't even funny

Same reason great concepts are worthless in isometric games, because they're isometric thus get incredibly boring after an hour due to lack of perspective of the world around you. We are 3D creatures, we desire every angle at all times.
Zoomers can pnly have 1 favorite game for a genre and cant change opinions despite better games being out there
Minecraft to terraria
Hollow knight to metroidvanias
Cuphead to run and gun
Chrono trigger to actually good games
New vegas to games that work without mods
No Zoomer has played Chrono trigger. They grew up watching ecelebs and every vidya eceleb hates jrpgs and turn based combat. At most they play DG 11, FF7R and Persona 5
Lmao
Chrono trigger and og ff7 are prime zoomer games
Because muh low poly ps graphics are kino apparently for snoy zoomers
And chrono trigger is "THE PERFECT JRPG THAT BEAT TIME ITSELF" and its on Super Nintendo so zoomers gravitate to it
>Chrono trigger and og ff7 are prime zoomer games
Unless those were re-released on a newer, more accessible platforms, there's no way many zoomers played them. Zoomers can't into emulators unless they're official.
Minecraft appeals to a much wider demographic.
You can play with a friend whose never played a video game before and they'll probably not have a bad time. Partially because of the lack of complexity and partially because all the challenging stuff is optional.
In Terraria, the bossing IS the game so no avoiding it, and the complexity is everywhere and overwhelms noobs. I've seen let's players mine around for hours without anything to show for it while the average player would probably be fighting mechs in that timespan.
New players really are not aware that you can only really access 10% of the game upon first world gen and each boss fight successively unlocks a similar amount of content that makes all the gear previously obtained obsolete.
they can both be played on pc natively through steam
>and its on Super Nintendo so zoomers gravitate to it
You've literally no idea how zoomers operate, which is kinda sad because your level of ignorance and stupidity is something that's only really excusable through immaturity.
They exist but they're not nearly as bad as people on the internet make them seem.
If you're in your 30s and like memes and shit then your humor is more in sync with zoomers than people your own age.
>zoomers
i'm 31 and i find it extremely hard to break out of my bubble of same old shit i've been playing for years, the only new game i've been able to play in the last year or two has been eu4
This is 100% right. Just look at all the fricking flamewars over games of the same genre you see pop up on Ganker. If you liked the genre, you would play both. Especially niche genres
Because Minecraft enables older men to goon & groom on kids. A game is only as successful based on the amount of online predators can interact with children.
>never get as big
I mean, terraria is an indie game made by a team of around 5 people, around a time (early 2010's) people played about similar ammounts of the game, Minecraft took off for sure, but it was after a continuous effort from Notch
Minecraft always had a lot of shilling going on, Notch posting here for instance, and right now they have a huge team working on the game + the spinoff + the marketing and all that.
Terraria was always a work of love rather than something to make money and it has always shown, especially considering how much longevity it has for such an old game and how it only costs like 5 or 10 bucks.
I mean, how the hell did they make a 2d game with pixel graphics become one of the best rated games in Steam and one of the best sold without youtubers and streamers riding it so hard
The question shouldn't be >why did terraria never got as big as minecraft?
it should be >what the hell type of lighting in a bottle did happen to Terraria to make such a big game?
>Terraria was always a work of love
thats bullshit, if they loved games they would have attempted to make a good game, not the abomination of being a 2d platformer with mouse controls.
Minecraft has become more about marketing and spinoffs than the base game.
Look everyone. >Creeper plushie! >Patton Oswalt! >Bedrock edition! >Dungeons! >Frick you Java users!
>smol team of 5 people had no chance against a one man team of such girth packing three whole dimensions
Holy shit the terraria cope is unbelievable, filling in a piece of grid paper is always gonna be lame no matter how many colors you can make the squares
That is such a blatant anti consumer move it's sickening. There's even an official guide that says it's a complicated process with no apology or solution to the issue. So basically tough shit, if you've been playing this for a long time you are no longer out target audience.
Minecraft to Terraria is like Pokemon to any RPG. Its baby first game, where you're easily the boss of situation. Its not like terraria is some hard game, but minecraft feels literally braindead, you even smash tree with bare hand like some caveman.
because zooms can only like what their favorite soi youtubers they grew up on tell them to
chadtubers playing both beta minecraft and terraria then moving on instead of becoming manchildren that only play 1 game were chads
i miss em
lots of my main homies retired
Terraria is pretty good except for the RNG bullshit for item drops. It's especially bad when you just want one good item like the Rod of Discord but it was a less than 1% chance droprate. That may be in part why the game isn't as well known, but it is still very popular.
Don't you have to de-corrupt the world? Isn't there also a chance for a game to not spawn a certain biome, removing the chance of getting some items? I haven't played in ages, so just trying to remember.
After you beat wall of flesh the corruption starts spreading quicker
You most likely wont see any effects of this unless you play on the same world for +15 irl days or something
Its one of those things that people made a big deal about despite it not mattering much
Atleast from my experience

>You most likely wont see any effects of this unless you play on the same world for +15 irl days or something
It spreads way faster than that (usually noticeable after ~5 hours), especially if you are unlucky enough to get multiple corruption biomes in your world. Also remember that breaking altars spawns random blocks of corruption, and plentiful blocks like stone, mud, and sand then become corruptible.

Corruption and crimson are just a chore to deal with after you start hard mode.
I mean if you are experienced enough at games that you dont meed guidance then why are you getting filtered?
Did king slime or the goblin army filter you?
Anonymous
The only part that has filtered me is master mode, that shit is hard as nails.
shit take, you can literally beat the game in 2-3 like hours if you are average skilled >spawn in >get iron equipment + bucket >get flint >run around to farm food and find a lava pool >make the portal >farming the rods takes like 20 mins >go back >kill Black personman to get the pearls >find the end portal >kill the dragon
tell me if an average skilled player can beat terraria in that amount of time, it would probably take like 10+ hours of farming random shit
I've seen people get to the final boss of Terraria in about 90 minutes. 45 if they're nuts.

>UHHHH NOOOOOOOOOOO YOU CAN'T JUST SAY THAT TERRARIA NEEDS X3 THE AMOUNT OF GRINDING
The, this RNG is the biggest flaw of terraria. That bullshit modifier chance from the goblin guy is the worst. >mash for 5 whole minutes to get modifier you want >get the same shitty modifier multiple times in a row >finally get the one you want but accidentally pass it >now have -100 gold and no decent modifier
Literally unplayable without the consistent reforging mod.

All of these Black folk are wrong. The real reason people like Minecraft more than Terraria is exactly the same reason why People like the game. Its linear progression and unless you play with a guide you are going to die, again, and againI, and again. And it will get boring pretty fast. Minecraft is more open and the world bigger, you dont need to make new worlds to 100% it. And Minecraft its a lot more simple to grab and has less weird progresion.
>Unless you play with a guide
Good thing a guide spawns every single time you start a new world!
And tells you everything you can craft and all you can /should do up to hard mode!
>moving goal
Keep on cope Black person. Accept that the same reason people like the game is the same reason the game isnt popular. Accept your game is niche and cope.
cope. The game gave you a guide, literally named him "guide", and even reminded you of his presence by having him let zombies in your house. But still you were lost and confused.
You are wrong. How are you even supposed to figure half of the things in Minecraft without looking it up? The terraria guide npc tells you that monsters come at night and that you should build a shelter. The exact same scenario happens in Minecraft and yet there's zero indication or warning that that will happen.
Nothing in Minecraft is ever explained. Until somewhat recently crafting wasn't even explained either. A newcomer to the game is going to take forever to learn how things work, much less find the Ender Dragon or figure out how to brew potions.
Terraria's may have "weird progression" but Minecraft has basically none without a wiki.
nta, lots of stuff in minecraft is explained now except for a few things. it's been ridiculously bad for years but finally they're doing something about it
real playtester: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7DHOVziRwBA
But anon, when you don’t explain jack shit in your video game it fosters “community” online as people get together and try to figure out how the frick shits supposed to work.
>The exact same scenario happens in Minecraft and yet there's zero indication or warning that that will happen.
How much does that actually matter though? You get to your first night, and a bunch of monsters come out, and if you are unlucky you might die, but you have learned what happens at night.
Literally the only thing not having an example in the minecraft world at this point is some redstone devices (hoppers, note blocks, pistons)
And even then most of it's relatively intuitive. Worst I can think of is Hoppers making use of the rare feature of holding sneak to place blocks on blocks that have an interface/inventory
>How are you even supposed to figure half of the things in Minecraft without looking it up?
Playing the game? Do you have some kind of developmental disorder?
>How are you even supposed to figure half of the things in Minecraft without looking it up?
the same way you were supposed to figure out things in video games before there was internet

GG was 2014/2015, the point in time you're thinking of was ME3's release, and TORtanic and DA2 was the year before that, and I'd say all three of those are better milestones to show neo/v/'s downward spiral.

Gigachad will always have a place in my heart. I can't be mad at this smile, even if he likes to make outrageous claims. He is the Übermensch that every man strives to be.
unironically, gigachad and the virgin vs chad memes are unironically some of the only modern memes that've stayed mostly pure
meanwhile wojaks and pepes got the fricking Emergence Metamorphosis treatment and have become a shell of what they once were.

Chad and virgin memes are uncorruptible because at their core they're made to self ridicule. Even if you don't understand the meme and unironically use it to make some kind of political statement or personally attack a group or person it still just makes you look dumb for using it and stays true to the original intention.
>He is the Übermensch that every man strives to be.
Why the frick i would want to be a literal normalgay? You Ganker type of ddjpeople are fricking pathetic.
I remember when the whole comic panel would get posted and I never really found it cringey.
When people started making threads on /b/ sharing rare pepes wasn't even that cringe.
>2d >not sandbox focused >even with less materials, 3d allows for more and easier creative expression >not as many mods, no shit such as redstone >no gazillion custom game modes >no huge community servers >worlds are focused on progression, can't really join in late or take a break (which in turn means you can only play with a friend group)
Terraria gets boring after you beat the moon lord a couple times, after which there's nowhere to go in a game more based around progressing to the next thing while Minecraft is more made for you to just do whatever you want for an infinite amount of time. Both extensive playing of minecraft and terraria post moon lord I find is for autists.
Terraria is smaller.
The largest map is a 8317 tile wide 2 dimensional plane.
It is a comforting boundary with a feeling of progression and the ability to fully explore everything.
Meanwhile minecraft is a first person adventure where most people don't even fight any of the bosses.
Terraria's not really THAT amazing though. It's more or less just a 2D Monster Hunter, with the focus being almost entirely on killing shit and gathering loot so you can create new weapons and armor that you're just gonna ditch after the next boss battle. And the sandbox element is just kinda "there". You can create fancy houses and the like, but there's no incentive to really build anything elaborate or unique. Plus it doesn't help that every world is more or less the same fundamentally, and that the progression of the game is pretty railroaded.
As much of a dumpster fire it became in the hands of the devs, Starbound unironically provided a much more creative and diverse sandbox experience for you to frick around in, even if it's a lot less polished in other areas and is only really held up by the overhaul mods it has.
i love terraria but >draw a flying white dog >call it a wyvern >draw jason voorhees >wiki says it's supposed to reference michael myers >draw vincent smith >wiki says it's supposed to reference leatherface
why
>you can use the same character and inventory on them to different worlds
Why is this only in Terraria and not standardized in every fricking other Minecraft/Terraria clone. Taking your char to Master mode or world hopping to Crimson/Corruption is tight as hell. Guess that's why Terraria is still the best.
Wow I'm writing up the code for that in a game I'm designing at this very moment.
The real trade off is the mixed client side authority for items vs server authority for everything.
With the server authority model it allows for people to not dupe anything and have large community servers where no one cheats, but in client authority it's easy to do what you're mentioning.
It's possible to have server authoritative everything and do character sharing like ARK has with server clusters, but that means everything player side has to be predictive, which just makes things way more complicated. I'm at this point where I'm finding it hard to choose which to do but leaning to the easier one.
Good luck with your project anon! I wish I had anything meaningful to say to help you but I am a super moron at coding although a server side authority sounds better since in Terraria, although I love the cross inventory, it's so laughably easy to dupe. Would giving rare shit a "one per player" type limit help or does that complicate things further?
What I'm planning on doing is for higher tier items to require a kind of mana that can only be recharged at certain kinds of structures, and the way to enable them is for that server world to have progressed enough, otherwise your high level items will be low battery and effectively the lower tier for that level of world progression.
So in Terraria beating wall of flesh turns the world into hardmode which adds more functions to the world, my idea is that before an equivalent boss is defeated the mana recharging structure(s) won't work, so that everyone can be kept at a more balanced level (although there are still a lot of things to benefit otherwise). Going into another world will also drop the mana charge of those items to zero for instance.
This could be done a number of times so like blue, green, then red mana which can charge the lower levels, with some higher tier items needing the best mana to operate without limit.
I also have ideas for the other kind of unearned progression, like my first experience with Terraria was a friend telling me to join a game and he dumped gear on me that would have taken like 10 hours to get and it didn't feel good. I have some solutions to that problem as well.
what are you even talking about, first terraria was extremely succesful, second you cant even compare the games
minecraft is digital lego, obviously every single kid wants to play it
terraria is an action rpg with crafting
This latest update has started making me realize Minecraft is kind of turning to shit. They've been adding useless crap for a while now and I didn't care for the most part.
The reason they gave for not adding fireflies was moronic and their updates are getting lazy. Atop the fact everything is absolutely useless.
I don't care about the mobs they add because they never do anything. Has the game actually added anything of substance in ANY of the post Microsoft days?
I would argue that the end of pre-hardmode is the most comfy period in a Terraria playthrough and the middle of hardmode is the most fun and challenging.
still waiting for hytale
yea, I'm aware of the riot controversy, but I hope this game succeeds because minecraft is certainly stagnating despite being backed by microsoft.
The minute riot bought them, it was guaranteed to be Chinese spyware. They'll probably find some bullshit anticonsumer way of monetizing the shit out of it.
Watching hytale crash and burn before even releasing was hysterical. Such potential, thrown away.
What ever happened to this shit? The game was supposedly going to be the remedy that was the Cube World travesty and the homosexual creator turning his game from gold to coal.
still waiting for hytale
yea, I'm aware of the riot controversy, but I hope this game succeeds because minecraft is certainly stagnating despite being backed by microsoft.
How do people get away with such blatant knockoffs?
It's honestly annoying how many fricking items there are in terraria. You can't take two steps out of your house before your inventory is full of trash. Also NPC happiness is the dumbest mechanic they ever came up with.
Newer crafting games do furniture entirely through a build menu that uses raw ingredients, and I greatly prefer that to having to inventory a dozen chests of unused furniture.
Valheim and Satisfactory come to mind. Probably more.
This, it makes no sense for them to limit inventory space that much when the game has tons of items, it's just an annoying mechanic. Look at Minecraft and how they had to make things stack on top of stacks as a half assed fix to the problem.
is it really that important that minecraft sold more than terraria? they're both in the top 10 most sold games of all time according to wikipedia. comparing the two's sales is just kinda pointless when they're both at or near the top
All the terraria chairs look like shit
The whole game looks like shit. The pixel art is shit. Im not paying a 2D game with the ugliest ass sprites. I don't fricking care if i can have a rainbow pride flag of chairs. Them and the game look like shit.
It's not as immersive because it's 2D. I can literally go inside my house in Minecraft because it's 3D and in first person. I am but an observer of a terrarium in Terraria.
Terraria is far less about creativity. You certainly can achieve it, but Minecraft is simply way more varied on that front. Being 3D is a huge help with that.
it just kills me inside with the lost potential of having decoration stuff in minecraft. 10 fricking years later and they don't even have chairs and tables yet, they even made them official in villager houses
I swear the last big update for Terraria ruined the entire fricking game. The art style went to ass, having the creative freedom to build what you want was thrown out of the window for useless NPCs, the absolute SHIT decisions they made with torches.
It was an update so fricking bad I haven't played the game for nearly 3 years because of it. I dropped the entire game before it ever came out.
Let it be said for Minecraft, I slowly grew out of it, but never felt the need to actively drop a game I put hundreds of hours into because the direction they were going for fundamentally pissed me off.
FRICK Terraria.
I do not want to have to spread out my home to every single fricking Biome just so the NPCs are "Happy"
Frick that. I LIKE having one giant tower and they were going out of their way to make sure people couldn't do that. Like I said fundamentally pissing me off because they decided how I enjoyed playing isn't what people SHOULD be doing because Frick the player base?
Being able to teleport isn't the problem. Forcing you to not have a central base and instead spread out all across the map is.
It's going against the entire idea of creativity. Instead of building what I want, how I want it, I have to instead make the characters who tend to always hate or disrespect your character anyways happy and build what they want.
Frick that. I'm the hero of the story, half of these people I had to rescue from certain death. If I want to have my giant home mansion in the middle of the map with All my NPCs then that is how I am going to fricking play the game. But doing that makes them "unhappy" aka a bigger pain in the fricking ass.
It's an idea so fricking bad that as soon as I heard about it I uninstalled the game and refused to ever play it again.
>I LIKE having one giant tower and they were going out of their way to make sure people couldn't do that
Literally just do it homosexual you won't even notice the difference if you don't press the happiness button in the chat UI
On top of how much hunger a given piece of food actually restores, there's a hidden stat for how fast it will actually deplete. It's really fricking stupid.
Every action does x Hunger. Placing a block, moving a space, running and jumping drain the most. Consuming food over your limit gives you Saturation, which is just more hunger meter but its invisible. The minecraft wiki has at the details, its more indepth than most wikis.
It doesn't
Carry a stack of bread/porkchops and stop whatever you're doing to eat one every few minutes
All meats stack up to 64, giving you hours worth of hunger/saturation. It serves no purpose and presents no difficulty because you solve the problem within 10 minutes of starting a world, it's literally just there to add tedium because Notch played DayZ and thought it'd be funny.
Ever done just a nether playthru? Starting in the nether hunger is a lot more dangerous. Eventually getting a stack of food is a relief, just don’t die as you stumble across the wastes and lose everything. Thats not me defending the system, just to be clear.
LITERALLY
TOP = SOUL (LIMITED RESOURCES YET STILL PORTRAYS ACCURATELY ENOUGH THE OBJECT)
BOTTOM = SOULLESS (MULTIPLE EXAMPLES OF THE SAME ITEM, DOES NOT EXPECT TO BY ANYTHING ELSE NOR DO YOU EXPECT IT TO BE ANYTHING ELSE)
The only soul found in Terraria is in the art, not the gameplay.
and if you want them to actually work as pixel people giving you want you need to beat the game you need to spread out your home all across the map and go out of your way to make them "happy"
Commieblocks are the only homes they deserve.
In a game about making shit, minecraft literally has an extra dimension to make shit in that terraria doesn't. Creative projects made in terraria are simply less impressive.
Pic related is my first ever world. It's a great game.
It is way too heavy on the RNG though, like that hardmode uzi that has about 0.1% chance to drop from a jungle plant, and it isn't even that good compared to pretty much any other gun you could find more easily.
it will always baffle me how terrariagays praise the combat so much. flying in circles on ugly prebuilt arenas is the most boring shit ever. the game is so much more fun in pre hardmode when you're exploring the world and haven't hit mobility creep yet. repetitive boss farming autism in hardmode is also horrid for these exact reasons, because flying in circles is simply not fun if you've played any game that punishes you for moving like a spastic and makes attacking the enemy dangerous
Minecraft was designed around horde combat but that was never implemented, mobs got nerfed in b1.8 because of sprinting and combat has been awful since.
I will never forgive minecraft for not going further with hostile mobs.
There is so much shit in minecraft to build defenses, boobytraps, hidden entrances, explosive proofing, moats with drawbridges, huge castle walls... and it's all useless because hostile mobs present no threat.
All I wanted was for there to be a compelling reason to build a huge defensible fort.
I want to just play in peaceful mode, but then I just feel too embarrassed even though it is singleplayer I have to play on hard and eat lots of food and potions and I have to be good at the game, but I am bad at videogames.
Every game I've ever played, I am bad at.
I wish I could be good at a game.
I get a terraprisma in expert mode I just kick myself that I couldn't do it in master mode every thing I try at I just fail and keep failing until I give up hundreds of hours later.
Its a fricking block game how can I be this bad at this?
I hate it.
I'll always be a fricking loser until I can win at a videogame, but I just can't do it.
Just beating it isn't even enough I want to be good at the game.
I kill the moonlord after dying more than 10 times? That's just pathetic.
I have never killed the ender dragon myself I just ride my sad little horse ingame because I can't get a pair of wings without beating the dragon.
It doesn't make sense, why can't it come easily? But if it comes easily I wonder why I'm not better than I am currently.
Everything is hard. Too hard. Videogames, communicating, everything.
It’s not very aesthetically pleasing. Mine craft is also more creative and looks nicer. It takes a certain mindset to enjoy terraria, while minecraft is a literal sandbox.
Really the issue is that Terraria and minecraft are two different games.
Terraria being 2D platformer boss rush
And minecraft being a game where you build a cool house
Major difference being that minecraft is actively made worse by turning it into terraria, and relatively little harm is done by adding building blocks to terarria since it's just another tileset. (maybe it has an arbitrary value assigned to it)
The worst part is, because Minecraft is made worse by adding Terraria to it, people act like Minecraft would be made worse by adding ANY AMOUNT of focus on combat or building for a function other than aesthetics or farming.
Now the maximum light level for mob spawns is the minimum light level overall, 0, we haven't gotten a new "core mob" that just spawns anywhere in the dark and isn't just a zombie variant since the Enderman, and we still have every mob in the game able to be held off indefinitely by a base with a bed surrounded by a 3-high wall that bumps out at the top to block spiders.
The deep dark was a killer idea for an ultra-hostile, but ultra-rewarding place to spend time in. It would've made incredibly interesting challenge to live there. But the only mob that spends time there completely ignores whatever building you do, if not actively wrecking it. You can't build. It's a dungeon that so happens to resemble a biome.
No, you just said that Minecraft would be made worse by making it more of a platformer or a boss rush. And that's correct, adding more boss enemies with special loot to Minecraft isn't what it needs. It needs environments that are generally challenging to live in, but actually POSSIBLE to. It needs new threats to render old fortifications in need of improvements, not a new boss that smashes right past.
How many indie games in the past let's say 5 years can you think of that people referred to as "Terraria but X" rather than "Minecraft but X" like they used to? That number and Terraria's influence is still growing.
the chair in minecraft is already borderline useless, what am i gonna do with all the options in Terraria? Put it in my 2D """house""" that just looks like a construction site from the side. Never got Terraria honestly. I do understand that it has tons of content, which is nice, but the core game, just not for me - i really dont see how that is fun. I did enjoy Motherlode when i was younger but i cannot imagine playing that for thousands of hours.
exploration and spelunking is much better in terraria, and the sense of progression is nice. the building, post hardmode combat and npc system is depressing though, unfortunately
Because 2D is infinitely easier you fricking moron. Look how long it took to make Kenshi with a 1 man team, 10 years vs a few months to make Minecraft with a 1 man team.
What's with people pretending like Terraria isn't one of the best selling games of all time? Yeah it's far from Minecraft but so is literally everything else.
I mean its apparently one of the top 10 best selling games
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_video_games
sure, not as big as minecraft, but id say more so that terraria isn't very suitable for very young children because there is actual gameplay, while minecraft is fine for them.
And yet i never have seen an actual adult play terraria, not even once.
When Terraria has anarchy servers and a part of the fan base centered about being over 18 years old let me know. Minecraft can be a literal real world civilization building simulator, your little shitty 2D rpg doesn't even come close and this thread just proves what remains of Ganker is nothing but absolute worthless fricking out of touch morons.
on a completely unrelated note, what do you think about vintage story ? i never played minecraft but i want to play a game where i can become a blacksmith and create ingots. But i don't want to waste 20 dollars in a shitfest.
3D > 2D
Simple as
Making something look like a chair that isn't a char is more fun than just using a chair.
Also this
The problem is that chair takes up 3 block spaces because of the sign and if they had a dedicated chair it could simply be 1
Gameplay > No gameplay

FRICK YOU
It's really this simple, for anyone who actually wants to focus on building 3D will always be better than 2D.

And chrono trigger is "THE PERFECT JRPG THAT BEAT TIME ITSELF" and its on Super Nintendo so zoomers gravitate to it
none of the zoomers I know have played any of those games, only old stuff they play is pokemon and mario, sometimes megaman
I kinda hate that about terraria, really.
>and its on Super Nintendo so zoomers gravitate to it
You've literally no idea how zoomers operate, which is kinda sad because your level of ignorance and stupidity is something that's only really excusable through immaturity.
Almost as delusional as fighting gays saying their genre was never popular when arcade games and sf2 became a cultural phenomenon
Mother of Cope. I'm almost convinced zoomers don't really exist and people just imagine things they don't like and attribute to this shadow group
They exist but they're not nearly as bad as people on the internet make them seem.
If you're in your 30s and like memes and shit then your humor is more in sync with zoomers than people your own age.
Emulators exist Black person, guess what having a shit PC for the longest time meant that growing up that is what I used to play.
>New Vegas without mods
3/NV/4 are all unplayable without CONELRAD
Civil defense is common sense, after all.
640 and 1240 fellow chad
>zoomers
i'm 31 and i find it extremely hard to break out of my bubble of same old shit i've been playing for years, the only new game i've been able to play in the last year or two has been eu4
this reads more as someone being bitter to games that are popular rather than zoomers latching onto one game like an adhd monkey
This is 100% right. Just look at all the fricking flamewars over games of the same genre you see pop up on Ganker. If you liked the genre, you would play both. Especially niche genres
FPBP
no one wanted to play a 2d game when they can do 3d
WRONG
Because Minecraft enables older men to goon & groom on kids. A game is only as successful based on the amount of online predators can interact with children.
I wonder how many Tetris grooming circles there are out there...
Quite a few. We have a discord channel where we talk about T-spinning and hard dropping.
have you found kagari yet osk
Terraria got irreparably BTFO by THE BEST GAMERS
Lacking an entire dimension is a pretty big loss in a game designed around building stuff.
>never get as big
The question shouldn't be
>why did terraria never got as big as minecraft?
it should be
>what the hell type of lighting in a bottle did happen to Terraria to make such a big game?
>Terraria was always a work of love
thats bullshit, if they loved games they would have attempted to make a good game, not the abomination of being a 2d platformer with mouse controls.
Minecraft has become more about marketing and spinoffs than the base game.
Look everyone.
>Creeper plushie!
>Patton Oswalt!
>Bedrock edition!
>Dungeons!
>Frick you Java users!
>smol team of 5 people had no chance against a one man team of such girth packing three whole dimensions
Holy shit the terraria cope is unbelievable, filling in a piece of grid paper is always gonna be lame no matter how many colors you can make the squares
because Microsoft didn't buy it
That is such a blatant anti consumer move it's sickening.
Who plays Minecraft for the RPG elements? It's much more fun to build little towns in peaceful mode.
because zooms can only like what their favorite soi youtubers they grew up on tell them to
chadtubers playing both beta minecraft and terraria then moving on instead of becoming manchildren that only play 1 game were chads
i miss em
lots of my main homies retired
Terraria is pretty good except for the RNG bullshit for item drops. It's especially bad when you just want one good item like the Rod of Discord but it was a less than 1% chance droprate. That may be in part why the game isn't as well known, but it is still very popular.
Now if youll excuse me
Ill farm blaze rods for the next 8 hours
Still better than having to farm for hours to get a biome key.
You dont have to farm biome keys to beat the game
Ender pearls and blaze rods on the other hand...
Nobody gives a shit about beating the game in minecraft.
>You dont have to farm biome keys to beat the game
Good point, it's still annoying since the items are quite useful.
I mean if you are experienced enough at games that you dont meed guidance then why are you getting filtered?
Did king slime or the goblin army filter you?
The only part that has filtered me is master mode, that shit is hard as nails.
shit take, you can literally beat the game in 2-3 like hours if you are average skilled
>spawn in
>get iron equipment + bucket
>get flint
>run around to farm food and find a lava pool
>make the portal
>farming the rods takes like 20 mins
>go back
>kill Black personman to get the pearls
>find the end portal
>kill the dragon
tell me if an average skilled player can beat terraria in that amount of time, it would probably take like 10+ hours of farming random shit
I've seen people get to the final boss of Terraria in about 90 minutes. 45 if they're nuts.
not talking about high level speedrunning
>You can beat Minecraft in 3 hours if you know exactly what you're doing and don't deviate
>Yeah you can do that in Terraria
>Uh no that's a speedrun because it destroys my argument
a proper minecraft speedrun lasts around 30 mins and a terraria one is about 1 hour and a half, fricking moron
Yeah great, good thing no one was talking about speedruns before someone said you could beat Terraria fast.
good job purposefully misinterpreting everything just to make a shit point
Yes that is what you did
>UHHHH NOOOOOOOOOOO YOU CAN'T JUST SAY THAT TERRARIA NEEDS X3 THE AMOUNT OF GRINDING
It doesn't though?
You just need 12 eyes of ender, so 6 rods in total. 8 if you want to akem safety potions. Get fricked.
The, this RNG is the biggest flaw of terraria. That bullshit modifier chance from the goblin guy is the worst.
>mash for 5 whole minutes to get modifier you want
>get the same shitty modifier multiple times in a row
>finally get the one you want but accidentally pass it
>now have -100 gold and no decent modifier
Literally unplayable without the consistent reforging mod.
convoluted as frick
Is there even any Terraria merchandising?
(OP) #
All of these Black folk are wrong. The real reason people like Minecraft more than Terraria is exactly the same reason why People like the game. Its linear progression and unless you play with a guide you are going to die, again, and againI, and again. And it will get boring pretty fast. Minecraft is more open and the world bigger, you dont need to make new worlds to 100% it. And Minecraft its a lot more simple to grab and has less weird progresion.
Didnt post image
>Unless you play with a guide
Good thing a guide spawns every single time you start a new world!
And tells you everything you can craft and all you can /should do up to hard mode!
The "guide" is as usefull as a rock. Dont make me laugh
>never actually used him
>has never actually figured out a game on his own
>moving goal
Keep on cope Black person. Accept that the same reason people like the game is the same reason the game isnt popular. Accept your game is niche and cope.
cope. The game gave you a guide, literally named him "guide", and even reminded you of his presence by having him let zombies in your house. But still you were lost and confused.
I guess Terraria is too high-IQ for newbies
not him but that Black person was more useful at getting me killed by letting zombies in my house
glad the game makes you kill him to progress
You get to your first night, and a bunch of monsters come out, and if you are unlucky you might die, but you have learned what happens at night.
that whole scenario still applies to terraria though.
>How are you even supposed to figure half of the things in Minecraft without looking it up?
the same way you were supposed to figure out things in video games before there was internet
by asking your older brother
You can make much better builds in 3d, minecraft is the ultimate legos game.
Don't forget all the BLM ones.
Anyone who makes memes using this format should be publicly beaten
You can die a lot in Terraria.
Pepe is way older than 2016 homosexual.
only election tourists use it.
only election tourist would say that
>you can't use new memes, people will think you're a newbie
dumbass
>redditjak
>discordfrog
>new
Yes thats what the post implies
>use vintage meme
>all the newbies accuse you of being a redditor
Because all of those memes as been co-opted, it doesn't matter if they started here because they're all used by homosexuals elsewhere.
>can't use old memes
>can't use new memes
>can't force your own memes
You should all just have a nice day honestly
You're a zoomer newbie if you think 2016 is the problem, 2012 was already the beginning of the end. Gamergate brought all the political morons with zero critical thinking and children who cherrypick the worst morons on the opposite side of their political spectrum and act like they're geniuses for punching down
GG was 2014/2015, the point in time you're thinking of was ME3's release, and TORtanic and DA2 was the year before that, and I'd say all three of those are better milestones to show neo/v/'s downward spiral.
If you ask me it was the 2011 GankerGAs, something about it broke the site's psyche and shortly after we saw a huge uptick in ironic le reddit posting

I miss the old oomer memes.
It's being abused too much, he lost all his charm and impact.
Gigachad was great but then normies took it and ran it to the ground, HARD.
>He is the Übermensch that every man strives to be.
Why the frick i would want to be a literal normalgay? You Ganker type of ddjpeople are fricking pathetic.
Why did you post rage faces?
i've been here since 2011 and i post what i want. btw can't help but notice your PHONE filename you fricking phoneposting gay
Been here since 2007.
Why are we still here?
You should know this by now
No one ever leaves, I stopped coming here for months a couple times but we always end up back in the cycle
>moronic phone poster pretends to be an old gay
what happened to the feels guy anons
why was he the only one that survived amongst the old rage faces?
Every homosexual here acts like they love pepe now but I remember when pepe was considered cringy
I remember when the whole comic panel would get posted and I never really found it cringey.
When people started making threads on /b/ sharing rare pepes wasn't even that cringe.
the tiny arms asian is pretty niche compared to the rest
That is not what I meant at all you disingenuous moron, kys.
Normies prefer 3D to 2D.
>Top: soul
>Bottom: soulless
>2d
>not sandbox focused
>even with less materials, 3d allows for more and easier creative expression
>not as many mods, no shit such as redstone
>no gazillion custom game modes
>no huge community servers
>worlds are focused on progression, can't really join in late or take a break (which in turn means you can only play with a friend group)
Valheim is basically all of these things aside from being 3d yet it got huge
Not bigger than Terraria, and definitely not bigger than Minecraft.
I like building in 3d space
Because Minecraft is like lego
Terraria is an actual game
The former appeals more to kids and manchildren.
Minecraft needs a farming and furniture update. That's all I really want anymore.
i love terraria but
>draw a flying white dog
>call it a wyvern
>draw jason voorhees
>wiki says it's supposed to reference michael myers
>draw vincent smith
>wiki says it's supposed to reference leatherface
why
>wiki
Wikis are all fan made, which just means that the moron who posted the entry is absolutely braindead, mang
>redditjak

since (you) seem to be staved for (you)s, have a few you miserable homosexual
whats with this trend lately of accusing everyone who played an old popular game of being a zoomer
reeks of projection
Because Terraria is ugly pixel shit. At least Minecraft doesn't look as much vomit inducing
>Minecraft doesn't look as much vomit inducing
As bad as minecraft console controls are, terraria console controls are even worse.
>you can use the same character and inventory on them to different worlds
Sounds pretty fun anon. Just don't pull a Wollay.
Terraria is an actuall game with good progression and combat
Minekampf is shallow sandbox that has empty boring world with nothing to do in it beside building
what are you even talking about, first terraria was extremely succesful, second you cant even compare the games
minecraft is digital lego, obviously every single kid wants to play it
terraria is an action rpg with crafting
Terraria is a video game and Minecraft is a tech demo.
The bees are kinda fun to farm. Nether biomes were a recent much needed update.
Would a terraria/minecraft game in a top down Don't Starve like perspective work? It's hard to get creative in a top down way and roofs get confusing.
already exists but early access

You can beat Terraria and Terraria becomes worse the more you play.
Terraria peaks at pre-hardmode and after that the enjoyment dies down fast.
I would argue that the end of pre-hardmode is the most comfy period in a Terraria playthrough and the middle of hardmode is the most fun and challenging.
NOOOO I WANNA BUILD MY HECKIN COMFY WOOD BOX IN COMFERS NOOOOO NOT THE HECKIN PROGRESSION AND GAMEPLAY MECHANICS
simple reason. you can't have a wheat farm or bake bread.
still waiting for hytale
yea, I'm aware of the riot controversy, but I hope this game succeeds because minecraft is certainly stagnating despite being backed by microsoft.
>sold out to china
it's gonna be ass
b***h play this https://veloren.net/
I was never interested in cubeworld.
The minute riot bought them, it was guaranteed to be Chinese spyware. They'll probably find some bullshit anticonsumer way of monetizing the shit out of it.
Watching hytale crash and burn before even releasing was hysterical. Such potential, thrown away.
Packs
Minecraft Ultimate is kino
I also enjoyed Skyfactory and Reloaded
What ever happened to this shit? The game was supposedly going to be the remedy that was the Cube World travesty and the homosexual creator turning his game from gold to coal.
His blog updates like once a week.
How do people get away with such blatant knockoffs?
Minecraft gets boring pretty easy tbh
Terraria has more action, weapons, items enemies and bosses
Why 3D matters more if every place will be the same?
Then you end up with a shit ton of chests filled with duplicates of common drops like cobwebs.
is it really that important that minecraft sold more than terraria? they're both in the top 10 most sold games of all time according to wikipedia. comparing the two's sales is just kinda pointless when they're both at or near the top
itt: esl central
Soul vs Soulless
Less is more
All these chairs are unnecessary bloat
All the terraria chairs look like shit
The whole game looks like shit. The pixel art is shit. Im not paying a 2D game with the ugliest ass sprites. I don't fricking care if i can have a rainbow pride flag of chairs. Them and the game look like shit.
It's not as immersive because it's 2D. I can literally go inside my house in Minecraft because it's 3D and in first person. I am but an observer of a terrarium in Terraria.
Never once have I played Minecraft online and it sounds like it's for the best.
Terraria is far less about creativity. You certainly can achieve it, but Minecraft is simply way more varied on that front. Being 3D is a huge help with that.
Minecraft can be beaten by literally anyone.
Terraria can be difficult to beat.
it just kills me inside with the lost potential of having decoration stuff in minecraft. 10 fricking years later and they don't even have chairs and tables yet, they even made them official in villager houses
The reason is that they sell furniture as cash shop items in bedrock and they're not going to compete with themselves by adding anything to java.
bedrock has more items than java? never really played it
What the frick is that heart shaped demon you just posted?
That is an owl and an apple anon.
Owls don't look like someone beheaded a pidgeon and stuck two holes in the bloody thing
Not in my country at least
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barn_owl
I remember when Steve was white.
But for some reason around the time they introduced a playable white female his skin got darker.
FRICK Terraria.
what are you even talking about
also pretty sure the torch thing was removed
I do not want to have to spread out my home to every single fricking Biome just so the NPCs are "Happy"
Frick that. I LIKE having one giant tower and they were going out of their way to make sure people couldn't do that. Like I said fundamentally pissing me off because they decided how I enjoyed playing isn't what people SHOULD be doing because Frick the player base?
you don't want to have teleporters all around your world so you don't have to run everywhere? i loved it
Being able to teleport isn't the problem.
It's an idea so fricking bad that as soon as I heard about it I uninstalled the game and refused to ever play it again.
well you lost out on content, have fun with that
I'd rather have fun with other games then shit trying to force me to have fun "Their way" instead of my own.
Just mod it out bro.
>I LIKE having one giant tower and they were going out of their way to make sure people couldn't do that
Literally just do it homosexual you won't even notice the difference if you don't press the happiness button in the chat UI
>I do not want to have to spread out my home to every single fricking Biome just so the NPCs are "Happy"
Then don't? It's not mandatory.
I still don't understand how the hunger system in Minecraft works.
On top of how much hunger a given piece of food actually restores, there's a hidden stat for how fast it will actually deplete. It's really fricking stupid.
I just solve the issue by playing on peaceful. The combat isn't fun anyway.
>Wow you got one shotted by a creeper again!
And the art went to shit with the happiness patch anyways.
Top is soul and creative, the bottom is homosexual needing a specifically textured pixel for his special grass chair.
Hasn't Terraria started marketing itself by pretending their little mspaint pixel people are anime characters?
and if you want them to actually work as pixel people giving you want you need to beat the game you need to spread out your home all across the map and go out of your way to make them "happy"
Commieblocks are the only homes they deserve.
why would you put goblin frick in such obscure place, you gonna exploit him a lot, drop in the pit balloon lady or the clothier
It's one of the most popular games on steam, you fruit.
In a game about making shit, minecraft literally has an extra dimension to make shit in that terraria doesn't. Creative projects made in terraria are simply less impressive.
minecraft has no soul, not even colored lights
>friends invite me to play Terraria
>immediately die because someone dug a massive pit right below the spawnpoint
>invite friends to play terraria
>5 seconds in they're already spawning eyeballs and meat walls
terraria is honestly annoying as frick to play with other people
Terraria soundtrack >>>> Mineshart "soundtrack"
>linking calamity
minecraft does have many bangers tho, especially the newer stuff
>Using Mod music for your example
Terraria always had shit music let's be real.
>using a fricking mod soundtrack as an example
The start was "ok this is like Dark Souls music but 10x worse and soulless", then rest was just... MGR music but 100x worse I guess
I used to like Terraria's music but the windy day music is so fricking annoying
post something half decent at least anon
2D makes building shit and the world is less fun to explore
Ah yes, Terraria, truly a hidden gem.
>just number 9 best selling video game of all time
>Obscure or somehow less in anyway
WHAT THE FRICK ANON
>MK8D at 55 million
No wonder they won't make a Mario Kart 9.
post terra toilet
Once you "beat" Terraria theres very little replay
Minecrafts simple but its easier to make your own fun.
IMO Terrarias biggest issue is mining and building feels functionally worthless since you get most of your shit from boss killing
It is literally the 9th most bought game ever. Imagine complaining that you're in the top 10 best movies of all time because you're not no.1
OH NO NO NO RDR2 BROS HOW CAN WE LOSE TO A 2D SPRITE GAME
OUR GRAPHIX
OUR HAND-CRAFTED WORLD
OUR AMAZING STORY
AAAAAAAAIIIEEEEEEEEEE
The devs for this game must be rich holy frick
why do you think all post-launch content that has ever been released for Terraria has been free?
Well of course I know it's because it's still being sold, but I didn't know they sold that many copies Anon
TERRARIA MODDED SERVER FRICKING WHEN
When you fricking host it.
ive already hosted modded 1.3 im too tired
I have poor eyesight and glasses are for gays so I don't like Terraria because I can't see shit in the game
anon you better not be cutting off your nose to spite your face again
Terraria has a greater number of decorative items but despite that minecraft has the greater diversity in builds. 3D is just that more immersive
They rely minecraft player will "do it himself" and mod it. This shit is just modern legos, just not expensive.
Better question why Minetest still doesn't have all Minecraft features despite having perfect copy of the engine.
minecraft is virtual legos, kids love legos
terraria allows for less self expression despite being a more competent video game
What's the best way to stop the corruption spreading?
Turn the game off.
Dig a trench at least 4 blocks wide between it and where you don't want it.
because there wasn't a legion of dweeb and groomer youtubers shilling it to zoomers
also it had some semblance of difficulty and nothing gatekeeps harder than that
Pic related is my first ever world. It's a great game.
It is way too heavy on the RNG though, like that hardmode uzi that has about 0.1% chance to drop from a jungle plant, and it isn't even that good compared to pretty much any other gun you could find more easily.
They're not really the same game besides a few things, why do they always get compared? they're not even in the same spatial dimension as eachother
it will always baffle me how terrariagays praise the combat so much. flying in circles on ugly prebuilt arenas is the most boring shit ever. the game is so much more fun in pre hardmode when you're exploring the world and haven't hit mobility creep yet. repetitive boss farming autism in hardmode is also horrid for these exact reasons, because flying in circles is simply not fun if you've played any game that punishes you for moving like a spastic and makes attacking the enemy dangerous
Better than minecraft where you just left click a mindless creature that slowly walks toward you with no attack animations for 5 minutes lmao
Minecraft was designed around horde combat but that was never implemented, mobs got nerfed in b1.8 because of sprinting and combat has been awful since.
oh i wasn't implying that mc combat is any better. it's just that terraria combat is really boring and gets praised for whatever reason
yep
Terraria sold literally millions of copies. What more did you want it to accomplish?
Where can you get Minecraft for free?
Terraria has dogshit controller support, that's it.
>contact based combat
>better
Yeah how about no
I prefer 3D building and some of the bosses are just tedious
World gen on terraria is also rreall6it or miss for me
I prefer Minecraft because building in 3d is a lot more fun.
I checked out Terraria again last year and they added a fricking black lesbian furry NPC into the game, makes me fricking sick
>hating the based zoologist
She's the best thing to come out of the update bar none.
I kill her every world I make.
there's a mod that makes her white and one that makes her always werewolf but with huge breasts
pick your poison
gay
>lesbian
?
I know what character is being talked about. I'm just not sure why Anon referred to her as a lesbian.
I don't know either, I'm just posting the character in question.
Isn't she attracted to the lizard (male)?
Because it isn't as marketable to children and isn't as easy to pick up for children
thats pretty much it, its literally the most positively reviewed game on steam i believe. So most non-children seem to like it
i can't get immersed in a 2d game
boy do i have a secret to tell you all games are 2D games anon
>every aspect
Well, except for the number of dimensions.
what is the point of 20 types of chairs when all of them serve the same functionality
Really Minecraft should've just gone much further in imitating Dwarf Fortress, up to the point of just being a 3D version of it, imo.
First one requires creativity. Chairs doesn't exist so let's use our existing tools to make them.
Second one gives you a bunch of options but doesn't really feel like anything special.
Their favorite e-celeb didn't play it is why. Fr fr no cap homie.
yes
Does terraria have engineering mods?
Terraria is quite difficult and confusing compared to Minecraft. But it still got pretty huge.
I hate it.
minecraft hard isn't really hard and terria is just obnoxious at higher difficulty.
just do whatever you want, they're both building block games
I'll always be a fricking loser until I can win at a videogame, but I just can't do it.
Just beating it isn't even enough I want to be good at the game.
I kill the moonlord after dying more than 10 times? That's just pathetic.
I have never killed the ender dragon myself I just ride my sad little horse ingame because I can't get a pair of wings without beating the dragon.
It doesn't make sense, why can't it come easily? But if it comes easily I wonder why I'm not better than I am currently.
Everything is hard. Too hard. Videogames, communicating, everything.
idk have a nice day. you seem miserable, im not your therapist
>I'll always be a fricking loser until i can win at a videogame
Anon...
>installs one of hundreds of modpacks
nothin personel...
It’s not very aesthetically pleasing. Mine craft is also more creative and looks nicer. It takes a certain mindset to enjoy terraria, while minecraft is a literal sandbox.
Basically terraria is minecraft for autists
Minecraft is Minecraft for autists.
that's like saying "why isn't this 40-story building as high as the empire state building"
>both games within the top 10 of the best selling of all time
This seems like a pissing match neither side cares about
Really the issue is that Terraria and minecraft are two different games.
Yes, that's what I said.
I played Minecraft for about an hour before I was bored to hell. Installed mods to try to fix it. Still tedious boring grindy shit.
Meanwhile I have 100% achievements in Terraria.
WTF
terraria is about the combat
minecraft isn't
anyone that has played both games realizes this
Anyone who played Minecraft realizes that it's not about combat.
First person perspective allows for more immersion
How many indie games in the past let's say 5 years can you think of that people referred to as "Terraria but X" rather than "Minecraft but X" like they used to? That number and Terraria's influence is still growing.
Nigg
for me it's the terra toilet
Terraria is far more difficult and have violence. Minecraft is a clearly kids game that's why it became such a commercial success.
>it's a "which is better, autist game X or autist game Y" thread
the chair in minecraft is already borderline useless, what am i gonna do with all the options in Terraria? Put it in my 2D """house""" that just looks like a construction site from the side. Never got Terraria honestly. I do understand that it has tons of content, which is nice, but the core game, just not for me - i really dont see how that is fun. I did enjoy Motherlode when i was younger but i cannot imagine playing that for thousands of hours.
exploration and spelunking is much better in terraria, and the sense of progression is nice. the building, post hardmode combat and npc system is depressing though, unfortunately
>the building, post hardmode combat and npc system is depressing though
Eh?
Terraria has more depth to it so it doesn't appeal to as many casuals
Minecraft allows you to turn your brain off and play on autoplay.
Terraria requires skill and effort.
it wasn't the first to do it and popularity is nearly always a result of something being worse
I could never get into terraria
didn't like the gamefeel
2D. You're right that the devs put a lot more love into it than MC's devs, Notch or otherwise, did.
Because 2D is infinitely easier you fricking moron. Look how long it took to make Kenshi with a 1 man team, 10 years vs a few months to make Minecraft with a 1 man team.
>minecraft
Terraria rather
But i don't want to waste 20 dollars in a shitfest.
play calamity
