not speaking about RE specifically, but for remakes in general, because most if not all(depending on the game that is being remade) of the creative work that would make the game qualify for an award has already been made in the year the game was released
the story, its characters, the writing, the setting, the gameplay, the mechanics, the overall presentation and essentially everything that makes the core of what a game is has already been made years ago, a remake is just dressing it up for today standards, from new graphics to voice acting to correction of flaws and bettering of gameplay to accomodate to new standards, all a remake is doing is adding up onto an already completed product, and THAT product is what should be nominated, and that product is not from the current year
the only categories a remake has any right to be in(if it is good in those departments, that is) are things like best vfx, voice acting(if the game had no voice acting before) and similar ones
I've played original over 50 times. The Remake is vastly different from the original. Only commonalities is story beats and similar (though nowhere identical) progression. Gameplay, movement, weapon, and boss fights are very, very different.

I'm genuinely a bit shocked. I at least thought it'd win best action or action adventure game or something. TotK winning action adventure was silly. AC6 winning best action is kind of understandable but I feel like RE4R had a much bigger impact overall.
I do think a lot of it was recency bias, since RE4R came out so early in the year.
I loved both AC6 and RE4make, but AC6 is SO much more fun than RE4. I was playing so much AC6 when it came out that it even dulled the enjoyment of the Ada DLC because it wasn't as fun to play. So it feels justified to win for that reason.

I was getting frustrated on the remake trying to get those cat ears and decided to pop in the original after not playing for years and once I clicked back into the controls it just felt so much better. I dunno if it's the bullet bloom, the rng on how enemies react to shots, Leon moving like a well oiled machine instead of stumbling, a combination, or something else, but it just feels better to play. That's not even taking into account the vast amounts of campy soul and chad energy radiating from the characters.
Remake does have the fun krauser knife fight though, so it can lord that over the original.

A secret cult of alien parasites kidnapped the president's daughter and now you, a super secret agent must go save her by blowing through hoards of evil monsters like a one man army while a midget in a castle taunts you.
Reemake tries to reign in that to make it the smallest bit believable. OG say "frick it, this is the dumbest thing imaginable I'm not even going to try to fool you." This abandonment of maintaining a suspension of disbelief means it can lean into it's own dumbassery and do things you could never find in another game that tried to take itself seriously, and therefore gives you a wholely unique experience.

And that is exactly why I prefer the realistic. It makes the "ridiculous" premise more realistic. It's kind of like Metal Gear Solid. The characters are pretty angry and visceral and it makes them scarier. A guy like Salazar is over the top and yet still realistic, he is completely lost to the plagas and his own psychopathy and it makes him menacing. That's exactly the kind of spoiled kid that would throw acid on his servant and his childish attitude of stunned growth merged with him trying to be a noble adult so much made it work really well imo. I like goofy too, but the dark serious tone is what I am generally looking for and the combination of over the top with the realistic is what made me enjoy the story more. The jokes are just right, Leon's bingo or hasta luego fits, Saddler's predecessor being called Adam Saddler in all seriousness made me smile, that's the kind of campy you see only in Metal Gear Solid and I love it.

I prefer old Leon but I do like what they did with nu-Leon. The quotes were actually what I thought where his weakest point. The bingo line had to stay of course, but alot of his other legacy one-liners felt really forced. "Hasta luego" was pitiful. One of his best moments qas actually when he did his own one liner with "nighty night knights".
I think he would have actually been even more liked if they'd let him stand on his own more with the "dork trying to use humor to cope with his situation" style. He was never going to be able to match the sheer unwavering gigachad confidence of original Leon's takes.

when i played re8 i got a lot of re4 vibes. i think theyre pretty similar. but i recommend playing in third-person mode on standard. the enemies are extremely tanky on higher difficulties. id say standard is equivalent to re2r hardcore difficulty

It can be nominated (and in fact what sets it apart from the original game can factor into its worthiness as a winner). A remaster is just a game but ported to a later system, potentially with visual upgrades but otherwise the same game underneath. They should not be in contention.
