Because they wanted Charizard to be the second poster child of Shiny Pokemon alongside Gyarados, thus for Gen 3 they specifically handpicked a color palette to make it cooler.
There's a few like that. You see, shinies are just one up on the colour pellets. So the only thing that changed were the shades they were using as technology advanced.
miscommunication. You can only take the excuse that they "couldn't make the main color black without it looking off" but then there is the glaring problem that the wings are still green rather than red
That purple thing is suposed to be black. That was the closest they could do in GBC without it looking blue or red. And it wast pitch black because it would look terrible as a simple color swap.
Why do people say the shiny color is black when shiny Charizard is clearly a smokey grey? Greninja, Koraidon and Haxorus have actual black shinies, Charizard does not. I mean it, compare them. He’s grey, white and crimson colored, not black in any way.
purple isn't "cool" enough. Black is much more shillable. .
They didn't change anything morons, purple is a shade of black
So is my dick
>purple is a shade of black
No that's blue

First, Blue was a shade of black. Now, Purple? What's next, Green?
He's not wrong you moronic Black folk. Purple is black, especially on the GBC colour palette.

because they saw Black WarGreymon and had to copy it because Shitfreak exists to steal ideas and slap their logo on them
soulless vs soul
soul vs soulless
anyways pokemon wins by default.
Favouritism.
Because it looks like Barney in GSC. The newer palette is much better.

Wise anons, I would like to ask a question about charizard.
The current state of zard in competitive is horrible. How would you fix him without changing his type to fire/dragon or increasing his stat?
Don't.
Or just kill Rhydon, i dunno...
I'm serious. Charizard is horrible in battle
Hi serious I'm charizard
Did they though? maybe it was always meant to be black but the GBC couldn't really make it look right.

A lot of colors where changed after GS (see crystal), it was either bad calls by spriters or marketing changes
